I just ordered the goliath 5'1 with a deep spool fly reel,also bought their suggested line and leader. i have a bunch of glocks so I'm just gonna take one of the cases and make it a mini fly box. I hope the fly combo is worth the money, it looks like so much fun. I will make a video when I receive it, I live in South Florida so I'm actually gonna be trying some brackish canals and see what happens lol. video coming soon. btw I subbed, gonna check out your vids now :)

I will probably just buy the rods first and decide on the reels a little later. We have some small reels laying around that we can use for a while anyway. Take care my friend.
Thank you for the heads up on that Alan. I am loving the idea of the Penfishing system and I am pretty sold on it. I am not an "ultra light" long distance thru hike backpacker. I just plan on using these fishing poles to do a few day hikes into some semi remote lakes in the mountains. they are for different types of fishing, bait caster is for heavier lures. It will be very difficult to cast small stuff like daredevil skeeters or panther martins, maybe even impossible. the spin works with u/l lures, bait, bobers, jigs etc.
my self, 12 pound Chanel cat but my friend John took a 23 pound carp and another guy an even bigger one. its all in the drag and how you play it. A 12 pound cat on 2 pound test was a blast

G'day mate I'm writing to ask how good are these rods and reels compared to let's say light set up like a 1-2kg rod two piece with a small reel I've been looking at buying one of these rods and reels but not sure how it works in really life
they are made to go ultra, if not micro lite. pack super small and will last if treated right. Use the drag and dont try to haul the fish in or bend it way back with a snag. I have several and have caught trout, bass, cat fish, bluegill and carp on them. Tones of fun. The record is I believe a 32 pound carp with a 45 minute fight! Just dont mis use or abuse them, like swinging them out like a light saber or trying to collapse them back real fast. they will last. The backpacker is the only one that has a standard real seat, the others are made for his reels but his reels are nice reels. I like the rear drag model and the 4' pole combo the best, the bait caster is supper cool. Over all, perfect for backpackers.

If you look through my videos you will see how many fish I've caught on them how long have been using them a few of them I've been using a decade now it's still working fine. If you buy the knockoffs yes the knockoffs are cheap. But these are good runs they do the trick they collapse very compact and can be thrown in your glove box or your backpack very easily. I've cut 4 lb trout on these I've got an 8 lb catfish on knees with no problem at all. One time in the Sierras I got 101 trout on one fishing pole in one day. They do exactly what they're designed to do.

the standard reel will ONLY fit the backpacker model, as the smaller rods take only his reels, due to size, the foot or base is smaller
