@@asahel980 I think what fixxer means is that once he started doing Unsolved Mysteries, he continued hosting it right up to the year before his death. 1987-2002, he hosted it. Fifteen years. He was doing other work at the same time, it seems, and therefore it wasn't just about needing to work and not being able to get enough of anything else. And I think he had a distinguished enough career that he could have been comfortably financially independent had he wanted to. So it was about the program, and it wasn't just for the money. Fixxer presumably defines loyalty as sticking with something (not necessarily exclusively but consistently) for a long time, and not sticking with it just for material reasons and/or because you have no other choice. If so, then by those criteria, yes, he stayed loyal to the show.

He was definitely loyal to the point when he passed away. Robert Stack was the only one capable of hosting this brilliant show without even trying so hard. Others couldn’t replicate it as he did.

There was hysteria in the 80s/90s regarding the occult in America. It’s evident when you watch UM, it’s often referred to as a genuine theory or looming threat, also played prominent roles in large scale criminal cases, always coming to nothing.

They made a good point about submitting Michael's previous altercation at the store to the court record (for the jurors to learn about). This may have had an effect on the jurors which made them develop a prejudice against Mr. Martin which pretty much sealed his fate.
He was released back in 1999, though, which is over 20 years ago. I wonder where he is now, and what he's up to these days.

He never said his son didn't drink beer, because he was underage. He just said he didn't drink beer. And the toxicology report supported there were no substances in him, which seems to support what the dad said. Did he know all about what his son was doing? Of course not. What parent does about their teenage kids. The kid could've drank sometimes, who knows, but he didn't have it in him at the time of his death. That's fact. Also, the dad simply pointed out that his son had experience in diving and rock climbing, which is relevant because it would mean it's far less likely he fell out of clumsiness and inexperience or that he would simply drown because he could not swim well, while intoxicated on beer he never drank and did not have in his system. I don't get the sarcasm here. I know. Six months old post, but since 34 people were so ready to like it, I felt I had to say something rational here. And, in the 80's we didn't have that much knowledge about what we now deem quite normal. The reenactments, the wicca, paganism and D&D. In those days there was still hysteria of that. Like the remnants 'witch hunt days' due to total lack of knowledge and misunderstandings and fear were still prevalent.

The amount of quality that went into the production is almost unmatched on TV to this very day. Unsolved Mysteries is a bonafide classic that will continue to stand the test of time. PorkyPricklyPant, unless someone else comes forward to confess there is no way he will ever see his conviction overturned. Even a confession may not be enough to reverse a conviction or win a new trial. Many folks don’t understand that the finding of fact by a jury of guilt or innocence is practically irrevocable. Appeals are nearly always based upon issues related to due process, e.g., whether errors were committed during the trial, and whether it was a fair trial, not whether the convict is guilty or innocent. To reverse a conviction through an appeal the burden of proof is reversed: you have to be a able to prove innocence, not the existence of reasonable doubt, using evidence that had it been presented to the first jury would in all likelihood have resulted in a different verdict.
