    I must say, you know what you're doing. I built a pond 2 years ago and used a 125 gal. pond shell and I must say that it's too small and rocks keep falling into it. Thanks for showing me what I need to do--I'm gonna dig a deeper hole and build a shelf around the edge like you do! Great video, dude!

    Love love love the way you do your wateralls. The way it's not a single sheet falling, it's several sheets falling at different angles and sometimes hitting other levels on the way down. I know that's a weird observation, but I've seen some ponds where the waterfall looks soooo fake, and it really jars you out of the moment, even if the rest of the pond looks good. Same with those ugly plastic monstrosities (like the frog in this one) meant to disguise certain features...ugh. Also, I honestly never realized why you leveled all your ponds and put shelves in. I thought it was just a trademark of yours. When I saw how unstable the rocks were in the old pond, I had a eureka moment. Love your videos, thanks so much for the upload and especially the education!

      to do it right, it's more like 6-9k for a smallish 1000 gallon pond by a genuine expert. The materials and rock alone will run about 2k (NJ prices, we have to import our rock from out of state. If you can get local rock on your own the materials are closer to 1k). Then factor in roughly 25-35 hours for the labor, and that's with experienced & knowledgeable pros using the proper tools.

    Great re do , Pond Digger Dude.
    Why did you decide to bring in the cement or cinder block? to create the edge of the pond as opposed to larger rocks/boulders ?

    • @ThePondDigger
      @ThePondDigger  8 років тому

      +Patrick Fitzsimmons We used the cinder block as the back drop because it was fast, easy, affordable and compact for the situation. They won't be seen after the installation so they didn't need to be a hot looking rock wall

    How much did this cost? Also do you have any pond building friends you know of to build in central Florida? I'd want mine to be about double(or at least comfortable for 3-5 adult koi)

    • @ThePondDigger
      @ThePondDigger  9 років тому +1

      +Cheesus The pond equipment needed for this project is around 2,500. Installation costs depending on access and stone selection would put you 5,000 to 7,500. Look up Tranquil Water Gardens in Florida. Alex Castro is my affiliate in Southern Florida but he travels and is connected with contractors across the state.
      Best of luck to you!

      I am speculating but If it's a new pond it will likely work it self out but it could have been rinsed better if that is the case. If it is an older established pond you might be getting some run off from the landscape around the pond. That should be corrected.

    I heard the root of some water plants can damage the liner? is it true? or it is better to keep them all in pot?

    • @ThePondDigger
      @ThePondDigger  11 років тому +1

      We typically plant the aquatic plants directly in the pond when we build eco-system ponds. It is rare that an aquatic plant damages a liner. Typically the pond is neglected to allow an aquatic plant to go out of control.

    How do you “ top off” ponds like this? Especially in the summer.
    Obviously collecting rain water... but when it runs out....
    Buckets? Seems like that would be an absolute hassle.
    RODI auto top off so you don’t need conditioner? This would waste a TON of water.
    Do people just use a garden hose and then add the conditioner/dechlorinator Directly to the pond immediately after?

    Hi how can you make the rocks stay in place without falling in the pond?

      alessandro20081994 I don't own one but I have seen some on the campus of where I work. They are basically very tiny swimming pools recycling water through a skimmer/filter and pumping it up a small hill so that it can run down a waterfall. Water use consists of refilling whatever evaporated. That's all. They certainly consume far less water than a ten thousand gallon swimming pool in the typical suburban back yard.

    Awesome series, an instant favorite! I hope we have more in the future... It would have been awesome to see just a minute or two of footage during the construction, but I'm assuming limited time frames probably didn't allow for the appropriate setup for lighting and such. Thanks for taking the time to do these videos!

      Thank for your feedback arteolike! We have recently filmed a fair amount of construction so we figured a little break in the flow would be good. No worries as we have some construction videos in the pipeline. Stay tuned!

      @parmorama 4 роки тому

      Yep, our UK Grey Herons can reach down 4 feet, so a 6 feet deep pond is needed. But then the Heron will just wait at the edge totally motionless until one stupid koi swims up close enough.

    Wow that really is a nice pond. The kind of pond that makes a garden. Once the plants grow a bit as well it should be even better. Well done.
    If I was going to add my 2 cents it would be to make your pond critter friendly. More nooks and crannies for small invertebrates. That is just my personal choice though since I like wildlife.
