And this is EPICA releasing another masterpiece, hehe... Until now you had reacted to songs without growls or just with a little bit of them. This is more the real EPICA, where growls are more common. My suggestion for the next EPICA reaction is "Consign to Oblivion (Live at the Zenith). It will blow your minds... And after that, well, you have more than 30 masterpieces to review, so keep on reacting to EPICA, my friends... And when time allows it, to other amazing symphonic metal bands (THERION, HAGGARD, WITHIN TEMPTATION, DELAIN, SIRENIA, IMPERIAL AGE, just to name some of them)... Greetings from Spain...
The first logo to appear is a G with a 13, you have to look closely to see them both. It's from grupa13, they did the video. They do amazing videos for Behemoth, Accept, Amaranth, etc. The second logo with the E is Epica's new bandlogo. It includes the Omega.
I can see it happening, and it happened to me as well. At first I was not a fan of the Growling either but slowly but surely it got to a point that I can see how and why it works in a lot of the music I am listening to right now. I have even purchased some CD's where the vocals are primarily either growling or fry screams and I am to the point that I can even understand the vocals.
Same to me. Many years ago i would not even consider listening to music where growling was included. Nowadays I wonder what my misconception was back then..
The thing that got me past Marks growly vocals are the lyrics, most of the time the lyrics that he growls have an extremely positive message, that took the edge off it for me, and then I just got used to it
This is real Epica !! Symphonic metal with death metal/prog influences and vibes. I absolutely recommend you guys to react to Design Your Universe live Retrospect, The Essence of Silence live, The Divine Conspiracy live Retrospect, and if you feel ready react to Kingdom Of Heaven ( epitome of perfection, composition level : GOD )
Simone has been busy lately, she is also featured in 2 brand new Ayreon videos: Ayreon - This Human Equation and Daniel’s Descent into Transitus Medley
Such an incredible band! And this is only the tip of the iceberg. Epica has dozens of amazing songs and many mind blowing masterpieces to explore. Enjoy your ride! Try these from their 10th anniversary Retrospect concert, amazing show with full orchestra and choir! Epica - Design Your Universe Epica - Chasing the Dragon Epica - The Phantom Agony
Keyboardist Coen frequently plays the NUmotion REVO 1 Curveboard during live shows to "come upfront and take your moment in the spotlights by giving you the freedom of movement"
There is an 11 part vides series on the making of the new album(releases on 2/26/21). They use an orch9, choir, and a childrens choir in the recording. Another good one is Kingdom of Heaven
I'm not 100% certain, but the landscape in the Video looks a lot like it was shot in Saxon Switzerland in Germany. A beautiful region. And truly an amazing setting for another epic song by Epica.
Beautiful song from Epica. Tip for Mike and Ginger: also take a look at the special of this song by drummer Ariën van Weesebeek of this song. Great to see the effort he has to put in for this song. This is a complete workout. Well done Ariën. And nice to see a young Floor and Simone giggling while practicing for the song Sweet Curse of Floor first band After Forever. Greeting from the Netherlands
One of my favourite EPICA songs from the previous album, this is a Scifi story about the machines taking over the world! EPICA's lyric videos are works of art in their own right: EPICA - Universal Death Squad (OFFICIAL LYRIC VIDEO)
Great reaction guys :) I grow fond of you two so quickly (i came as part of the Nighwish army). I can recommend for you guys to react to 'Epica - Kingdom of Heaven (Live video)' - it's one of the most epic performances by them. Keep strong and stay healthy! :)
7:10 The growls will grow on you. I wasn't much for them either when I first started listening to Epica (among others, Jinjer is a good case in point) but I just loved the music and really grew to appreciate the vocal style in the right context.
As to wherever this is - it *looks* like *Saxon Switzerland* in Saxony but it might very well be something in central France, there's a couple of areas that have these kind of rock formations in Europe^^. Love the video and how it interacts with the lyrics along kind of Wheel-of-timey-ness feel ;). Best regards Raoul G. Kunz
This is an amazing song indeed. Great reaction! The album will probably be a masterpiece again. They even used a children's choir (for one ore maybe more songs who knows) on the new album. There are so many great songs from Epica, I can't hardly recommend any song any more..If I have to then I would suggest something different than the usual suspects that most pepole bring forward. Epica has a very heavy side, some more straight forward songs but also beautiful ballads and those ballads are not recommended that often, I'll name 3: Tides of Time, Canvas of Life or Once upon a Nightmare...check them out one day..
I'm still trying to figure out what's going on in the video after watching it at least 10 times, but the music is spectacular. As someone else mentioned, Consign to Oblivion is a great one to watch.
The naked woman represents mother nature, or a generally more abstract personification of beauty/simmetry/enlightenment (the album deals with the concept of sacred geometry). The man sees "her" and experiences catharsis, feels at one with the nature/world around him and cries. The end.
Enjoyed the reaction, I'd like to throw in a suggestion for Ayreon. Usually the day that the world breaks down is the most common first reaction. It's not as heavy as Epica, it's more like a prog metal rock opera and is composed by Arjen Lucassen and then he recruits and invites many of the worlds best rock and metal singers to sing for his projects. The day that the world breaks down has something like 11 vocalists singing (I'm trying to go on memory so apologies if I'm off a little).
Fun fact: Most of the spoken words in Epica's songs are done by the drummer, Arien van Weesenbeek. He did them in the video here, but Mark Jansen, the harsh vocalist/rhythm guitarist was just lip syncing over them.
You just reacted to a typical Epica song with Mark Jansen's growls contrasting Simone's angelic vocals. For more great Dutch female vocalists, may I suggest: DELAIN - Masters Of Destiny (Official Video) | Napalm Records ua-cam.com/video/nT14mlv92t4/v-deo.html

Design Your Universe at the Retrospect Show is a must guys ! One of their best works

Ginger - if you go to Epica's channel, they have a series of short vlogs on the making of the album. There's actually *two* choirs on the album.
That’s incredible. - G
