- How do you dock the free-floating windows and panels of the Lazarus IDE?
Probably most modern programming environments these days keep all their tools and windows docked inside a single containing window. That makes it easy to rearrange your Windows desktop by dragging Lazarus around on your screen or even from one monitor to another. But since Lazarus windows are undocked, you can’t do that. Can you…?
Well, yes, you can. And in this video I show you how you can dock and undock the entire Lazarus environment in just a few seconds.

This series explains cross-platform programming using Lazarus and Free Pascal on Windows and the Raspberry Pi OS. It will cover everything from procedural Pascal to object orientation with Object Pascal. The Pascal language used is also closely compatible with Object Pascal for Delphi. Thank you for sharing this technique ,
I really was miss this approach in Lazarus IDE.
seems helpful.
Thanks. I must admit I use this mode all the time now.
Thanks mr. Collingbourne, that worked for me. I've noticed that the CoolBar disappeared but I could easily put it back by marking the checkbox in the IDE CoolBar visibility options.
Glad it worked. Lazarus can be quite significantly configured, though some options are a bit hard to find!
Thank you, my friend. You helped a lot!
(from Brazil)
Glad to help!
Indeed, Lazarus IDE still lives in the alternate reality of 2004, maybe. Currently, I use VSCode with the FreePascal Toolkit plugin to edit Pascal files and debug programs, and I go for the Lazarus IDE only to visually edit screens.
Very useful! Thank you!
Thanks.
Thank you sir for all things That you share for us
I'm glad they are useful! 🙂
today I were thinking at this
well helpful vedio
Many thanks.
Nice. Maybe this will fix a problem I sometimes have, where I open a project and code from some other unrelated project will be floating somewhere (in front or back) on the screen.
I think that should fix that. Good luck!
There was some criticism about the free-floating panels on a very popular gaming channel "GamesForScratch" when reviewing the Castle Game Engine along with Lazarus. I commented how to do exactly what your video is showing so many many others were not under the same impression that this was fixed.
Let's hope someone on the development team thinks of making this a one-click option!
is their gui interface also cross platform?
Lazarus is, yes.
I know this is too much effort, but there really need to be an option to enable/disable this without having to install packages and rebuild the IDE.
BTW: I tried this on a Mac and during the rebuilding phase it fails because it can’t find the “DateTimePicker” and this isn’t in the list of packages (installed or available list) so this method doesn’t work
I agree. While it is simple to do, many people don't even realise it's possible and so give up on Lazarus for that reason.
@@LearnWithHuw Any idea how to great past the missing "DatezTimePicker" missing package or where to find it?
