Dr. Peter B. Dent Memorial Lecture (2022) - Speaker: Dr. Maggie Larché

Dr. Peter Dent was a long-standing faculty member in FHS and the pediatrician who was the driving force behind the establishment of McMaster Children’s Hospital. Sadly, last year, he passed away. In the spring, the Department of Pediatrics collaborated with the University and HHS to create a joint call to Peter’s colleagues, friends, and family to contribute to a fund that would invest in impactful work in pediatrics, in Peter’s name. Our community responded with remarkable action and raised $250,000 - which, by all accounts in fundraising circles, is an incredible accomplishment for a memorial fund and is reflective of Peter’s stature and reputation, as well as of the generosity of the community that supports his legacy.
Those funds have been matched by the Department of Pediatrics, for a total of $500,000. That seed money is now being invested in programs what will further contribute to and drive excellence in pediatric clinical care, research, and training.
Our inaugural lecture speaker is Dr. Maggie Larché, professor of Medicine at McMaster, and Head of Rheumatology at St. Joe’s. Her lecture will speak to lessons learned from Dr. Dent, important clinical and research initiatives inspired by him, and ongoing research efforts.
