So what are we guessing guys? I’m still racking my brain as the car was 100% for the miles driven to Portsmouth yet as soon as we were off the ferry it decided to die 🤷♀️ strange…
My best guess would be the alarm system. Mine mulfuctioned 4 years ago. Did exactly the same as yours is doing now. Had an alarm system expert fix it, haven't had a problem since
Mat, my audi A5 had a similar issue when i took it to france. Nursed it around paris and when i got it back to the uk it was like nothing had ever happened. Turns out there was a oem factory gps on the car and you have to notify the manufacturer when making a trip overseas. Its to prevent cars being chopped and sold illegally. The tracker is located behind the glove box and spliced into the wiring harness of the car. I know you’ve got a lambo but they share the same engine and parts as audi.. maybe this is the reason as to why it’s letting u down?. Ether way i hope this helps. Best of luck
This cannot be true, who the fuck notifies the manufacturer for each trip ? Why would audi bother to do it anyway ? Plus for this to happen it has to be constantly connected remotely to audi , which these cars are not.
Have a safe journey guys. I can’t imagine how horrific it must be like too abandon a Lamborghini like that. Sending prayers from Sweden for that lambo to get to a full recovery soon.
I reckon the bumper being on and all them shiny pipes and bigger turbo's, coupled with Spanish temperatures are causing excess heat giving you fuelling issues.
If it was an engine overheat he'd see it on the dial though and from stuff I've seen online thats much more likely to cut out and steam, and not want to turn on for a while, he didnt note anything about it being particularly hot or it whirring to try and cool it down. I think its probably electrics since its flashing into limp, but im not a professional.
Hay Matt, has the Lambos manufacturers tracker been disconnected as they come with one fitted and it will act like it is now to prevent it being sold abroad ? Hope you get sorted 👍🏼
That car looks way better with the bumper on! I'm gutted for you though with the break down! I hope you can get it back on the ferry without being towed though. I would say that shouldn't be done anyway being auto?
Enjoying this channel a lot lately, had a similar issue with a moded turbo car, for 3yrs roughly had check engine, vsc & traction lights on sometimes alone & sometimes with the car fully loaded, took it to mechanic changed a few sensors, reprogrammed ecu, reset ecu, with no avail, took it to a auto electrician, told him the problem & without doing a thing told me change fuel, 100 octane and never looked back.

Had a similar experience to yours in a 3.2 Audi, stuck with an unfashionable issue that I couldn’t get my head around and overthinking the problem. Managed to get to a local village mechanic who, in broken English said always start with the simple things first. He disconnected the battery for twenty minutes while we drank coffee, reconnected stated the engine and guess what, the rest of the 1500 mile trip was faultless. You two take care of each other. I'd guess heat, fuel or electrical related - as after stopping for a while, the car starts and runs OK, until it stops again. Was it getting worse/stopping sooner each time? Plus it gets very cold in the middle of the sea, so the "damp" could be (frozen) salt water condensation. You have a bespoke car, so its not surprising it's got a few teething problems, but you can't analyze it properly without a laptop to connect it to = bet you never drive it long distance again without a laptop. I had a Hillman Imp once that would stop after a while - couldn't figure it out. Had bought it from my Dad, who said it was a fine car with no problems. It stopped on night in Bristol, so he drove down to rescue me, by which time the car was fine. I took his car, he took the Imp, and for the next few days it was fine. Then one night it stopped on him. He got it recovered home, and tried everything. As a last resort he took the carburetor apart, and found what could only be described as very smooth marbles. The Imp had a very low air intake, and we lived in the Cotswolds - so it was basically very fine Cotswold stone dust that had been sucked up by the air filter but stopped by the carb filter, that had got bigger and bigger until they stopped the fuel flow. You never forget the reason behind a difficult fault - Good Luck!
The only thing I could think of if it’s running smoothly untill temperature is the rear bumper is not letting enough air get to the turbos causing it to get to hot and cut out? Or the turbos have no been installed properly. Not particularly sure tho best of luck!!
I agree it's something related to the bumper being back on. Only change he's made really. It may have just taken a while to occur and got away with it on the UK leg.
When dealing with an issue you have to retrace your steps, what have you done different? 1. Put bumper on - so go back and systematically go through that process and check everything you touched / changed etc - 2. What difference does the bumper make? - heat and airflow ? check what electrical sensors are in that area that could be overcome by heat, - it makes sense as soon as you leave it for a bit then start again it’s ok? .... had time to cool?
But i drove over 200 miles with the bumper on with no issues. if i had put it on when i was on the ferry it would make sense but i didnt do anything different on the ferry to when i got off which is strange

My day job is trackers and alarms and the problem does sound like a tracker kicking in if it’s a cat5. If when in uk you get no problem then very high chance it was the tracker causing your problems
Hi Mat. I'm a mechanic and I've fitted many of the vodafone trackers on our company cars. I can tell you that they are not wired upto any ECU's or anything important. They just use a normal constant live, ignition live and earth. So I don't see how it could cut the engine.
Heat perhaps? Maybe in the UK the high pressure pump in struggling to fuel the car but colder climates the fuel will be more dense so easier to circulate. In Spain the fuel will less dense in hotter weather and perhaps harder work for the pump
Boy, U brought back memories of many failed drives just like URzz.....its an awful feeling but U gotta put a smile N crack on amigo!!! keep US posted N hope U had the best holiday!
If it was the bumper/ roof box it would have played up on the way to Portsmouth. It’s playing up at low cruising speed so I doubt it’s the heat in Spain. (Marginal at best) Was the car tampered with on the boat? Wrap the Vodafone tracker in aluminium foil, so it can’t pick up a signal therefore unable to pinpoint where you are. Worth a try! If nothing else, blame Brexit 🙈
So so so gutted for you guys! Second attempt for this trip also with c tests etc! Wasn't meant to be. But I know you both will have a great week, plus get to take the lambo on its trip eventually. Keep up the great hard work you both put in.

I've been there mate. Started at 10,162 mile journey and broke down 100m off the ferry in Calais. Also broke down in Russia, Kazakhstan and Mongolia 100s of miles from anywhere 🤣. Good luck getting it sorted 👍
Sounds like a fuelling issue when under load. That or, the perimeters are all out of wonk after fitting the turbos and hasn’t been re-programmed correctly. Ideally, you need some live data and see what’s going wrong when it goes into limp now & help narrow it down otherwise it’s purely a guessing game. Keep your chin up pal and enjoy your holiday👍🏼
Electrics!!! Every DIY'ers nightmare. Bet your kicking yaself for not having any diagnostics with ya. My best guess is damp from being on the boat? Good luck bud!!
Good to see you’re keeping spirits high and still carrying on with the journey. The Panda will make it an even better journey, what a beast 😂 Shame about the Lambo though absolute mystery. Looking forward to see how the rest of the journey goes
I would assume its a built in tracker from way before u owned the car and is hidden in side normally behind the glove box most cars that are performance cars have to be tracked and have built in shut off mode once out of the country even if its not being used any more the only reason I know this is I used to work in a commercial body shop and that's what I got told by the tracker man that used to come and remove them and he had tecs that said they removed the trackers but didn't and only later would find out easyist way to find out is to order a piece of kit of line and scan the car with it to see where the tracker is as most high end cars have been more than 1 built in a lambo I would assume would have 2 or maybe 3
Hello Mat, I'm thinking that maibe could be a vacuum leak or maibe some over boost leak some where.... this could be one of the reason that the car enters in limp mode. Hope the problem will be something small and quickly fixed. Wish you all the best, and enjoy your free time and the weather. And if you have time, you and Hanna, I am in Portugal now /Lisbon, I will be verry happy to meet you in person. Take care.
No idea but seen a couple of R8’s advertised within the trade recently that the customers have spent a fortune twin turbo-ing only to sell within a few months and they don’t want big money for them. Was tempted at one for myself, but possibly they are never right when done? I always say most modified cars are ruined. On the track days I’ve done it’s always the modified ones breaking down, and it’s always the “upgraded” parts that have failed. The standard ones go round and round all day so I’d be looking at something along the turbo work do be wrong at a guess
Clean MAF Sensor The MAF sensor controls the air-fuel mixture in your car, and it can often become dirty, especially if you have an open-air filter. Dust and dirt on the MAF sensor will often cause it to send wrong values to the engine control unit, which may result in limp mode. Check & Clean or Replace Air Filter The air filter makes sure that the engine always gets clean air without dust or dirt. If you have not replaced the air filter in a while, it can be so clogged that it will cause problems with the intake air
Being as you’ve thrown several suitcases of money into the project so far, can the company that did the work courier you a laptop and dongle and try to get a live link fix … I’d watch the stream! Would be a good advert for their after sales care too …. You get it fixed, they get a shoutout and you get some more views! Daft afterthought is the roof box doing any weird aero malarkey and screwing up the airflow on the induction? Thermal cutout because there’s also no airflow with the bumper on? Overeager factory tracker? Or is the car just having a holiday as well?
I would say overheating of some kind or turbo boost pressure sensor unplugged - definitely related to you putting the rear bumper back on. If not that then your alarm/immobiliser system
Made myself a Lempsip and notification comes up! Aint I lucky. I was defo first but was more interested on the vid than commenting LOL. I know your gonna see this anyways Mat, Keep it up sick vids. Also Im not too far from Portsmouth (Southampton) :)!
14:00 #1 problem with high price (low value) vehicles is this YOU MUST ALWAYS REMEMBER TO BRING ALONG YOUR MECHANIC WITH ALL HIS PLUG-IN FIDDLY TOYS. Otherwise breakdowns will occur at the lest opportune time
Have you checked the left falangy? Will we get the uncut version of events on Hannah’s channel as she looked far too calm in your vlog. My good lady would be tearing me a new one.
The problem is that you installed two turbos on a perfectly fine NA engine and rendered the Lamborghini an unreliable vehicle. Turbos are fun but there’s nothing like the performance, feel and sound of a big NA engine. Some mods are just not to be. ☮️
Odd! Great that you’re not letting it spoil your holiday! Years ago I had a 2004 ep3 civic type R that was doing exactly the same thing… drove fine for a bit but after a while it went to limp mode. Turned out the timing chain had stretched a tiny bit
Some advice - highly modified cars = temperamental and never a good option for road trips, throw in the fact that it’s a Lamborghini and you have this!
Next project car has got to be a Fiat Panda now! If anybody could make it look cool you can. Definitely leave the bumper on the Lambo too! Looks soooo much nicer.
Perhaps whilst you are away, get your mate to send the equipment you need for them to remotely diagnose the fault, just a thought…. Lambo looks great with the bumper on. All the best with the rest of your trip.
Comedy gold ..." you may be towing the Lambo back on the boat, with the panda" Good luck guys. Thanks for the honestly and optimism. Italians were always iffy on electrical management, it may be a heat issue either engine or climate which has shut the car down to protect itself. I would have took the back bumper off for a while to see if it comes back or not.
Hi Mat. I took my RS mk3 abroad and the same thing happened to me. Gif Gaf had not activated the roaming on my sim card on my alarm system and when the car tried to connect to a European network it had all the symptoms of yours. I locked it. Rang Gif Gaff. in the 30 degree dry heat aggravated by engine bay temp. FYI Car was Saab Aero 9-3 remapped to stage 3 , 300 bhp ( standard 210) . Hope you get it sorted.
Recover it to the Ferry. Drive onto the Ferry. Drive off the Ferry in the UK, and recover from there? Gutted for you both. I was looking forward to watching the videos. It has to be tracker related. It was working fine all the way to the ferry. Good luck in solving this one. It will still make for an interesting video, but still wanna see that lambo getting some stick. 👍👍
My cars broken down, it’s a pain finding the problem and fixing it, but like you say sometimes I hate cars too! Don’t let that ruin your trip have a great time guys‼️
You will sort it Mat, good that you show the good, the bad and the ugly…. Real motoring! Enjoy your break 👍🏻
The mighty Fiat Panda being more reliable than your heavily modded Lambo....#priceless. Glad you were able to make Plan B and get mobile again to enjoy your hols. Hannah didn't look too impressed with the Panda though so may need some flowers or chocolates ;-)
You’re pronunciation of Bilbao and morale is hilarious. “Bilboooa” 🤣 and “moral” 🤦🏽♂️
give the guy a break, his pride an joy broke down, why does it matter he pronounced it wrong?? Your not here for an English or geography lessons, your here to watch Matt Armstrong deal with cars that have been bought back to life!!!
@@AudiS4B7 bro, I'm form Spain and trust me this pronunciation has really hurt me. Anyway peace and enjoy cars!
How can you comment on someone’s pronunciation when you can’t even spell ‘your’ correctly 😂😂😂
@@marcllers111 when did your Form Spain 17 hundreds or a little earlier? Like I said before get a life if all you are going to do is comment on how he pronounces words. Anyway you must have nothing in your life if comments like that hurt you???
@@timothysidebotham don’t worry he is Spanish sorry European he is allowed to…. Hahaha. Didn’t see that nice one!
It’s all part of it mate. At least you can see the humour in it! I left a c63 at the airport and when we got back off holiday with my wife and baby, battery was flat as a pancake. Luckil they got it boosted with a battery pack so I was straight on the phone moaning saying they left the lights and owe me a new battery… turns out it was the front Sam module draining the battery - must of got wet when cleaning the car 😂 be careful with that jetwash people
My day job is trackers and alarms and the problem does sound like a tracker kicking in if it’s a cat5.
Ánimo Mat! Ya nos contarás qué le ha pasado al Lamborghini.
Sorry but what a story. What an adventure. I had a 14 year old honda civic type r ep3 and it made it all the way to monaco. No problems but i was so nervous. Your there together. You both seem chilled. Dont worry. All part of the experience. Love the vids
Get your army to sort recovery on the other side good lucky matty
I've been there mate. Started at 10,162 mile journey and broke down 100m off the ferry in Calais. Also broke down in Russia, Kazakhstan and Mongolia 100s of miles from anywhere 🤣. Good luck getting it sorted 👍
When you guys was on the ferry, was the parking area secure? There is an outside chance some spiteful dude put something in the fuel tank?
That's the first thing I thought of. I have zero faith in humanity
@@Kay8B was thinking the same, or pushed something up the exhaust and is blocking gases to exit
Matt you rock. So much positivity. Keep up giving us nice videos. Cheers mate!!!
I hope you two get it sorted out man. Wishing you all the best. Enjoy the hoilday. I’m sure the Lam will be ok in the long run.
Spain without the S
Good to see you’re keeping spirits high and still carrying on with the journey. The Panda will make it an even better journey, what a beast 😂 Shame about the Lambo though absolute mystery. Looking forward to see how the rest of the journey goes
This is a sign to get that Aventador SV 👀
@Jesus really is that confirmed by Matt? Or just guessing like everyone else?
@Jesus the auction isn't finished yet
Love the idea with the air ride going up pushing the Surfshark sponsor up! 👍
Who’s watching this after the news on the Gallardo?
Matt it's your ECU mate - i guarantee it. Air / Fuel mix and temps. Good for you and hannah though for not letting it ruin your holiday - top job m8.
Thats what I was thinking like how last time the lambo just starting leaking when they got it back
Clean MAF Sensor
The MAF sensor controls the air-fuel mixture in your car, and it can often become dirty, especially if you have an open-air filter. Dust and dirt on the MAF sensor will often cause it to send wrong values to the engine control unit, which may result in limp mode.
Check & Clean or Replace Air Filter
The air filter makes sure that the engine always gets clean air without dust or dirt.
Great idea actually
It would have played up on the way to Portsmouth if that were the case.
Just thought it looked a bit warmer over there, not getting the density of air possibly
Great video and production 👍 got to say when I saw the Roof Box on the Lambo I thought what would James May Say...? 😜
What a weapon 🔥🔥🔥
I would say overheating of some kind or turbo boost pressure sensor unplugged - definitely related to you putting the rear bumper back on. If not that then your alarm/immobiliser system
Made myself a Lempsip and notification comes up! Aint I lucky. I was defo first but was more interested on the vid than commenting LOL. I know your gonna see this anyways Mat, Keep it up sick vids. Also Im not too far from Portsmouth (Southampton) :)!
14:00 #1 problem with high price (low value) vehicles is this
YOU MUST ALWAYS REMEMBER TO BRING ALONG YOUR MECHANIC
WITH ALL HIS PLUG-IN FIDDLY TOYS.
Otherwise breakdowns will occur at the lest opportune time
Have you checked the left falangy?
Will we get the uncut version of events on Hannah’s channel as she looked far too calm in your vlog.
My good lady would be tearing me a new one.
I’m honestly only watching UA-cam for one reason, this channel. Thanks Mat you’re the best!
So it didn’t like having its back bumper fitted then
Crank Hub sensor, I’ve had same issue!! Scary when it cuts out like that 😬
The problem is that you installed two turbos on a perfectly fine NA engine and rendered the Lamborghini an unreliable vehicle. Turbos are fun but there’s nothing like the performance, feel and sound of a big NA engine. Some mods are just not to be. ☮️
Agreed
it's been fixed now. crank sensor replaced.
Odd! Great that you’re not letting it spoil your holiday! Years ago I had a 2004 ep3 civic type R that was doing exactly the same thing… drove fine for a bit but after a while it went to limp mode. Turned out the timing chain had stretched a tiny bit
God help whoever wins this when he raffles it off 😬
Nah he's keeping this 💯
It'll be fine in the UK.
😆 🤣 😂
Cars Form you witch you Build from scratch Are better than Cars you let Build!
That shows how amazing your work is ! ❤️
Hi Matt,
Personally I think the back of the Lamborghini looks more finished with the bumper ON.
Loving all the blogs.
Cheers Gary
Comedy gold ..." you may be towing the Lambo back on the boat, with the panda"
Good luck guys.
They sorted it. I left it for one hour. It was fine after that. Enjoy your holiday mate 👍👍
Yeeeeeeessssss!!!! Adding the bumper it looks stunning!!!!! Hope you keep it that way! Great to hide turbo’s too - imagine calling a Lambo a sleeper 🤣 (from standard).
It’s funny how none of Matt’s crash damaged vehicles stop on a road trip but the lambo which was practically brand new broke down 😂
