I have the model that is one step down from this one, black and white TV with no sound meters for the microcassette. I didn't know this particular model even existed
27:45 I used to record just the audio of many of my favorite shows in micro cassette when I was a teen. I would use the recording on the micro cassette to play behind the counter at work. Supervisor said I can’t watch TV or listen to music. Said nothing about listening to TV😄
Heh, my father had one of these on the bookshelf behind his desk in his home office (he’s, a now retired, attorney). It was the perfect “useless” gadget as it’s exactly the thing a high-flying lawyer in the 80’s would need: TV for spot-checking the news, stereo radio for relaxing with that after-lunch martini, dockable microcassette for dictation sessions and for listening to next-generation stereo microcassette releases; man, that thing was more pimp than Miami Vice. I’m pretty sure that, by the time he had that office remodeled, and that stereo TV thing went to the landfill, it probably had like 30 minutes of real use. Like a lot of 80’s converged electronics (really popular in the early 80’s), this deck was functionally obsolete almost from its inception.
Seeing stuff like this makes me miss the time I was really into collecting old TVs in the early 2000s. Before my parents but a stop to that in 2003. Pffft! Jokes on them! I got a Philco Predicta! 😼
Yowsa! I just picked one of these machines up for about $20 the other day. Incredible to see one in action! Mine has three sleeves that the batteries slip into. Might fashion some out of paper?
i no longer have it because it broke, but I had a small tv that took sixteen batteries, that's nothing compared with what I had. I still have my CB ht and that takes 10 double A batteries lol, the tv i had though took 16 D cell like you would use in older flashlights. weighed a ton to carry too, claimed to be portable yeah, but portable doesn't or should not weigh fifteen pounds without the batteries either lol. I don't miss it either because it was black and white and the reception without an external antenna was crap. The only thing that was rather decent for receive was the AM front end. i could get a decent number of stations on the AM band, otherwise it wasn't all much.
In the 80's Sharp Company was truly inventive and creative. One of their most incredible device was a portable amplificated LP player (VZ 2000/2500) I personnaly owned a GF 9191 radio cassette player. Great !
Stereo microcasettes are really rare. Probably the only "walkman" type. What's strange is that its small size is not exploited for this unit, no advantage since a regular cassette mechanism could fit in the space, and the colour TV already makes this quite a heavy portable.
About 7 lbs with batteries, if memory serves me right. That microcassette recorder is solid as the case is metal and it’s filled to the brim with electronics.
If you hadn’t indicated that this was a micro cassette I would have never guessed. I wonder why they just didn’t include a compact cassette deck? Have you tried the micro cassettes recorded on there on other recorders, especially the ones where you recorded music?
Thank you for making a wonderful video about this machine. These combo TV/microcassette machines made by GE, Sears and Sharp have incredible forward torque compared to the competing models. The audio quality sounds amazing on these yet I do not like the built in automatic level recording circuitry. It is too aggressive for my liking
A very nice and unique machine. And it even has AlNiCo speakers, quite unusual for the era. It almost seems like they wanted to make this as weirdly cool as possible. Isn't the tape width itself the same for micro- and compact cassettes? So it should be possible to manually wind some tape from a regular type IV cassette into a micro shell - it would be a big PITA but you could also build some contraption to automate the process.
Very cool I have never used a Microcassette deck, I do own a micro cassette deck however I don't have any tapes for it lol, Also would be cool if you could review the funai at 29:14
Power it off of 18volt cordless tool batteries. Like 2 or 3 18volt batteries wired in parallel so the voltage stays at 18, it'd run quite a while off that.
Techmoan wants to know your location (the best I can come up with is a radio alarm clock with color TV and then more or less the same model again but b/w, a mono boombox with color TV and (regular) cassette - and two hacked video doorbells with Sony Watchman tubes - ah wait I have a VHS player with builtin 5 inch color TV, unfortunately it's NTSC and I live in the middle of Germany... I have hundreds of VHS tapes but only 3 in NTSC and one I recorded myself)
If add usb to play at the tv? Then from tv can autorecord to cassette anyway right? Means from a cassette can be into a disc from the usb(external disc player maybe, or stick on 1 side of speaker so nicer), maybe if external memory ports then hook/stick on? Just nice idea.
Anybody remember the microwave oven with color TV and AM FM stereo radio with side firing speakers? May even had cassette as was centerpiece of modern kitchen? Around this early 1980s time… I can’t find any references to it.
Small CRT to the right of the oven door. In the same place as oven/clock radio display. I even recall it may have even cassette…. Was such a long time ago and blown away….
That really rocked 🪨 back in the 1980’s. I thought 💭 it was missing the AM/FM radio 📻, until ya went to the 🔝. This TV 📺 set is like 👍 a car 🚗 for your bedroom 🛌, or wherever in the house 🏠. I never 👎 saw 🪚 this in a micro cassette version. I still say any cassette tapes are not outdated. Cassettes still do better than most of today’s modern formats. Your friend, Jeff.
Thinking about getting one of these. The Tale Spin pilot episode looks great on that little screen.

Wow thanks for sharing what a rare unit. Now I have another impossible to find item to find
A Metal microcasette, never knew there was such a thing!
You must not be located too far from me bc I noticed you're able to get a few stations from Pittsburgh that I can get too. I live in southern pa
The only thing missing is the AM Stereo.
the quality of the build being metal and all looks like a cool combo between a mid century 60s radio and a boombox.
I miss SUN TV.
Excellent Machine 🥰👍

This takes me back. If you had one of these you were the talk of the neighborhood.
Wow looks amazing. Thanks for putting such a detailed run through online. I enjoyed this video very much
WoW ,I loved this video from start to finish! This machine is truly apart and unique 😍
Wait what!?

That last little clip has me rolling!!! You should've been a VA.
I need to practice doing that again :3
nice furry bear arm @21:20

Very neat unit i really like the look of it and tv part looks good as well
In 94-95 my mother had one of thease… freaking thing had a small tv on it. Housed to be fascinated by the thing as a kid lol
I have been dreaming of finding that exact unit since i was a kid, no such luck yet...
OMG that is awesome. I never saw one of these.
19:05 A relative of mine had one of those GE microcassette recorders.
Thanks. Very interesting. You’re in Pittsburgh.
I would've loved to play me some Streets of Rage on one of these back in the day. Then record the audio, because why not?

you do very nice work
What does this thing weigh?

Wow is a Nice boombox

I just bought one got a question for you are they hard to work on..is there a schematic for it
Came out good

Nice machine pal wanted one for years and nice little CRT TV too hi Leah and Bandy where's Andy ?
Andy was on my desk waiting for me to come back (to edit video) the whole time hehe.

The tape width is smaller than that of a compact cassette, so no go. And even then, I still have to obtain some regular type IV cassettes too haha.
Very cool I have never used a Microcassette deck, I do own a micro cassette deck however I don't have any tapes for it lol, Also would be cool if you could review the funai at 29:14
Sure, I will review that Funai VCR :3

We are located in Pennsylvania, USA. And very cool info :3
@@spatsbear The E-Waste Container Fairy seems to like me...
I own one to but with the micro cassette missing greetings from Mexico

This is a great
Mirco tape standard never caught on as common format.....used in tape answering machine or in Office
And for further information, courtesy of DataBits, the included Stereo Demonstration Tape:

Very cool! I will now be on the hunt for that demo tape!

I had a crush on a similar device from Philips.
Never bought it, though: You could buy a top spec boom box AND a decent size color TV for less.
Very Cool 😎
Great!
Cat so cute
You won't get that much run time on TV on radio and on on Hillary.Maybe that doesn't pull anything
