There's actually some history behind that MiG-21: That particular Croatian MiG is actually a gift from Croatia. Back during the Yugoslavian War, on the 25th of October 1991, a Croatian pilot named Rudolf Perešin fled to Austria (landed right on the civilian airport in my home town of Klagenfurt, me and my friends actually saw her coming in back in the day - what a treat for a bunch of 8-year-old boys) and his MiG was put into the museum in Zeltweg (and subsequent storage later on) afterwards, still in its original Yugoslav Air Force scheme. Since Yugoslavia didn't exist any more after the war, ownership of the plane was in limbo until in 2019, when it was repatriated to Croatia (and now resides in Zagreb's military museum) - and in return, the Croatian Air Force gave us one or their MiGs in their "new" Croatian livery. There's also some dime-novel spy-thriller story about how the Serbians actually wanted to steal or destroy the MiG when they sent a delegation of technicians to Austria to check it out and all that jazz... fascinating, but don't know how credible it really is.
Greetings from England! I'm glad I managed to visit the museum, was well worth the journey 😁 Are there any more Aviation Museums in Austria I should have tried reaching?
@@traveldan1 It’s definitely worth a trip! Free admittance, you can bring your own F&B (no glass bottles of course) and there are plenty of camping opportunities as the Red Bull Ring is right across the road! It’s again September 6&7 this year, so you still got some time to think this through!
Two beautiful Saab J-35 Draken preserved in great condition and one shows its built!😍 Very well done!👍🏻 And a Fouga Magister, another very much favorite one! I have to visit this museum.
It is a great museum, well worth the journey to get there! I heard some of the Eurofighters take off whilst I was there but wasn't in time to see them 😅 Hope you get there one day!
You should visit The Norwegian Aviation Museum in Bodø, Norway and also the Norwegian Armed Forces Aircraft Collection in Gardermoen, near Oslo in Norway
@@traveldan1 Also, the Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology in Oslo has the first ever jetliner to serve with SAS Scandinavian Airlines: - Sud Aviation Carravelle "Finn Viking" LN-KLH on display. Only the third Caravelle produced in the world and the first to enter service outside France. I believe you can enter it, atleast on some days.
Great video. Thank you for that. I’m visiting Sofia in August and plan to go to the Bulgarian Air Force Museum in Plodiv……..no chance of seeing a Draken there!
BTW. Not all German-speaking countries have punctual trains. Germany is far from punctuality, I already had delays of 40 minutes on average, German punctuality is something historic. Austria's trains are well above the Germans.
Hi, Yeah the German Trains suck since they were privatized. There was a trains boos called Mehdorn and he began the systematic destruction of services with the German railroad. It has become so bad I rather drive than use the train when coming and going from and to the Frankfurt airport.... Lousy sad affairs.
@@BetterAircraftFabric Interesting to know. Here in Britain we had a similar thing where a lot of the smaller train routes were discontinued. Services aren't that bad here, though I've only taken a few local trains
@@traveldan1 The German Train system is an absolute mess, and to top it all of they now are only checking the tickets of the German-looking passengers and are not even asking those that look, lets say, "Hostile" = To de-conflict. Violence has been an issue on trains and train stations, too.

That's pretty cool! Easy to walk past these things and not realise that there may be a story behind how it survived and made its way there!
Very nice Museum in Austria! 🇦🇹 I have been there 2 times! Greetings from Linz Austria Europe! 😎👍🪖🫡🍀🏔🍺🐺

I like the use of appropriately dressed mannequins. It gives a good sense of scale.
Sometimes it looks like they have raided the nearest hairdresser salon or department store! 😄
BTW that’s the airbase where the AirPower (Europe’s biggest air show) takes place. Usually the museum is admission free during this weekend.
Very nice! I do need to see more international airshows and not just the air museums 😄

Anywhere where there are aircraft on show, I'd go to find them! I hope to visit some Scandinavian countries soon ☺

The red and white Draken was painted for the 1000 year anniversary in 1996.
Ah, thanks for the information! I thought they were both retirement schemes

I've seen a video from that museum and it's made me want to get there too! Hope you enjoy your trip there when you go!

Good effort young sir !!
Thank you! There will be plenty more aviation museum videos coming soon from other countries I've visited ☺
Living in Norwich theres loads of little aircraft museums scattered around Norfolk !! Thorpe Abotts is properly my favourite
@@MrBig1gaz I haven't been to that airfield before, but I do have videos of both Norwich and the Flixton Air Museums on my channel ☺
Aviation Museums of the World? Turkey,Austria,Malta. Flixton,Duxford, London,Coventry, Newark
It's a work in progress ☺ I've got videos to make of air museums in Portugal, Belgium, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary
If you think that punctual trains is common for german speaking countries then you have obviously not been in germany
Haha, that was one of the things I thought Germany was known for 😄 I will find out one day for myself!
I had to mute you to watch it. :)
Ah, but you won't hear all the secrets then!
@@traveldan1 lol. good work btw.
@@steinadleradler3431 Thanks, and if it was my accent, I get that the Norfolk accent isn't the best 🤣
