Tim Harford is an economist, journalist and broadcaster. He is author of a number of books including 'Fifty Things That Made the Modern Economy', 'Messy', and the best-selling work 'The Undercover Economist'.
In the world of journalism, he has made his name as a senior columnist for the Financial Times, and the presenter of Radio 4’s 'More or Less'. Additionally, has spoken at TED, PopTech and the Sydney Opera House, and is an associate member of Nuffield College, Oxford and an honorary fellow of the Royal Statistical Society. Tim was made an OBE for services to improving economic understanding in the New Year honours of 2019.

Tim appears not to understand that when people's lives are a mess or they don't have any hope of improvement of their circumstances, an economic 'benefits' argument under the status quo becomes irrelevant to them.

Just because there is a paywall and you have to pay doesn't mean the consumer is getting the straight dope. You cannot depend on anyone else to form your own opinions for you and in order to form your own opinions you have to toil. And if you do not toil then you will remain ignorant. Priorities are a bitch. That's life.
