Did you ever guide your 'Floyd' to your 'Janice'? 😇🕹👌 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= More from 1984: tinyurl.com/1984-C64-GAMES My Top Picks: tinyurl.com/CCGS-BEST-GAMES
I've some faint recall of a friend or someone that i knew having this, but it was not, one that you'd copy, so perhaps not so capturing, maybe give it a try again and see =) and we'd copy basically anything
I have never heard of this Commodore 64 game before. And it was programmed by Sid Meier? The same creator of PIRATES!, CIVILIZATION, and RAILROAD TYCOON?! Now, that sounds absolutely retrospectively unbelievable 😹😺👍🕹️. Anyway, FLOYD OF THE JUNGLE seems kinda challenging, so... I BETTER FIND IT 😹👍🕹️!
Yup, the very same guy! Although it's literally nothing like any of the other games. It's a little poor in 1 player mode but great as a 2 player race to get to 'Janice' 😆🕹👌
Yes, it does have the look and feel of an Atari 8-bit game. However, it's often the case that attempts to "improve" the graphics end up just making the game uglier. Still, in this case you could keep the same resolution while increasing the number of colors a bit. Like in Jumpman, where the original monochrome sprites were livened up a bit with more colors in the C64 port.
It kind of looks like the C64 version was intentionally sabotaged. It could definitely have been more colorful than what we got. As with other conversions, it mostly comes down to the skills and motivation of the programmer (and of course the capabilities of the machine itself).
I don't think it's sabotage. There were quite a few straight Atari to C64 ports that were fun and well regarded, even though they made no attempt to increase the colors. Fort Apocalypse, Shamus Case II, Realm of Impossibility, Rally Speedway, Racing Destruction Set ... there were lots of straight ports with little modification other than reducing the color palette. And they were successful, popular, and fun!
I've never seen this one before. Looks like fun! I may have to give this a try sometime! I especially like that you can race another player... but finding another player who would be interested in a game like this would be pretty difficult nowadays. LOL
Its true, finding anyone to play Commodore 64 games with me these days is pretty difficult - my brother is coming over in a couple of weeks and I'll see if he fancies firing this one up with me for a quick 10 minute play 😇🕹👌
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer That's awesome! All my old C64 buddies (there weren't many) are either gone or they lost interest in old games. It feels like there aren't many of us left. That said, if you were to check my Emulation Station on my Steam Deck, I have more C64 games than all the other systems combined! I actually have the entirety of the old Arnold C64 FTP site completely downloaded into my C64 folder. Sometimes I just jump in and look through the folder to find something nostalgic to play... or to find something I've never tried before.
This one is completely new to me. It looks like fun, especially in multiplayer- and I'm always impressed when a game manages to pull off more than eight animated objects on the Commodore- but I have to say that it looks like the collision detection is a little dodgy. I imagine it could get quite frustrating if it's that hard to make the game register that you're in position to climb a vine.
C64 is very powerful 8-bit machine for moving objects on the screen. Its 8 sprites can be turned into several dozens with ease, using interrupt driven multiplexer (timer or raster beam based). Sprites are also very easy to animate in just a few machine cycles. Also, there are char-based soft sprites (like in VIC20) - quite unlimited, really, and easy to produce, and move around. And quite easy to animate as well, also in just a few CPU cycles. And various other cool things are possible with C64. Really awesome computer, no joke.
I would love to see a remake of this with better graphics and sound 😃Would be a blast to play! But I also like this one as it is (besides the Atari ;) )
LOL I LOVE how they completely ripped off the Intellivision default 'man' sprite included in the gfx library for that console! And hey, why not, it looks about as good as you can get for a single colour 8x8 sprite at the time! Looks to have some great gameplay for its time, but I started my C64 life as a floppy disk snob and the only cart that ever graced my cartridge port was the Epyx FastLoad cart and it never came out until the day i sold the machine and got an Amiga 500. 😆
Did you ever guide your 'Floyd' to your 'Janice'? 😇🕹👌

great video, been curious about this game since I heard it was an early Sid Meier game
Not massively exciting in single player mode, but great fun with friends 😇🕹️👌
Janice sounds like a right tart 🤣🤣
Haha she certainly does! 🤣🕹👌
I've some faint recall of a friend or someone that i knew having this, but it was not, one that you'd copy, so perhaps not so capturing, maybe give it a try again and see =) and we'd copy basically anything
I was the same on the Amiga... I'd copy everything I could, even if the game wasn't great! I was a hoarder of games 🤣🕹👌
The Atari version has a color scheme like Dig Dug.
It does a little, when you think about it 😇🕹️👌
they missed the opportunity to color Floyd Pink.
All in all it's just a.nother brick in the wall 😇🕹️👌

As many others apparently, I've not even heard of this one. And that's a damn shame, for a relatively early game, this is a gem!
It's brilliant fun as a multiplayer game, I had so many laughs playing this as a kid 😇🕹️👌
If only one of them was pink.. then he'd be pink Floyd 😃
I have nothing else useful to say. Sorry about that ccg. The joke had to be made. 😁
All in all its just.. a-nother brick in the wall 🤣🕹👌

Looks like a lazy conversation, if it was done well there's no way it would have been shown up by the Atari version.
Still good fun to play, definitely best with a friend 😇🕹️👌

Certainly looked a bit too 'bright' compared to it's Atari neighbour... 😇🕹️👌

Floyd, Floyd, Floyd of the Jungle... Hmm. Doesn't have the same ring to it, does it.
It's a jungle, welcome to the jungle
Watch it bring it to your n-n-n-n-n-n-n-n knees, knees 😇🕹️👌

Climbing the vines can be a pain, especially if you don't jump right into the middle of them 😇🕹️👌

I missed this one, but it would have been fun multiplayer! I can imagine us having fun competing with each other and trash talking ...
Haha yeah, it would be great to be able to play this games together as this one in particular is so much fun in multiplayer 😇🕹️👌
I would love to see a remake of this with better graphics and sound 😃Would be a blast to play! But I also like this one as it is (besides the Atari ;) )
Good fun in 2 player mode definitely 😇🕹️👌
Looked very easy however looks are very deceiving in this game 7/10
It's incredibly difficult, especially when trying to get past the canoes and the crocodiles 😇🕹️👌
If a game was released today where the player was rewarded for punching pygmies, I suspect some over sensitive types might not approve!
Yes, very true indeed... how the world has changed 😇🕹️👌

Great gameplay, especially when laying with friends 😇🕹️👌
