Absolutely... brilliance in his ability to communicate about the horrors and take on what almost nobody else will talk about truthfully, then draw hope in it still.
Never encountered Hamza Yusuf before but have long been an admirer of Hedges. Really enjoyed this conversation between two highly knowlegeable, wise and compassionate scholars. This kind of content should be compulsory listening for all politicians. Though, on second thought, I doubt many of them would understand any of it.
17:02 "What is a fool but someone who doesn't know who they are or where they're going." - Hamza Yusuf This profoundly resonated with me. Thank you for posting this discussion.
That statement really resonated with me as well. I was that person he spoke of; particularly as a child, but it manifests in different ways. This will certainly forever change my view of anger.
This is such an insightful conversation. I love the part where Chris Hedges mentions how jobs in the modern age can hinder self actualization and that leads to anger and self loathing. Especially bc your job is such a massive part of your identity. Stands in contrast to those living in poorer countries who seemingly don’t have much from a materialistic perspective but also aren’t consistently compromising internal values (via corp jobs) to live.
Chris Hedges is a treasure of our era. May Allah bless him with success in this life and in the hereafter. May Allah guide him to Islam. And sheikh Hamza is a beacon of light. May Allah bless him with a long, healthier life full of baraka
Needed. Moving. Powerful. Healing. Loving. Deep appreciations for this discussion. Our country and the world will benefit greatly from listening to the wisdoms shared in this.
Hello from Ireland ,thanks to Chris ,Hamsa and all involved in this production...glad you shared it with/for us whom care to listen and try to act upon it.
Thank you for providing the bridge, the language to express ourselves. Almost all in society have never been exposed to this, and the inability to express our wrath and rage is easily turned by insidious forces to the wrong ends. If you're working two or three jobs, or if you have no job and a family to keep, how do you find the time and stable calm mental state to read, discuss, develop and make any sense of the self and of events that are all pervasive in the modern world?
I am a convict, out for 15 years, I teach in a prison also, and it is a very polite society. Chris is right on... their social system works, for what ever reasons. I still have the eye twitch...
Hamza Yusuf employs a profound and beautiful conversational toolkit, he almost appears to be flexing his politeness and a tendency to relate everything to a parable or passage from his faith.
Thank you for this great conversation. A fan of both Sheik Hamza, and Chris Hedges. I hope we can have further discussions between them in the near future.
Our society in America will not survive if we don’t listen to these valuable thoughts that are the only answer America has to proceed in a society that holds life at its heart!
What an Amazing conversation, you guys couldn't have said it any better and the whole world needs to hear this in order for it to correct its behavior..
Chris Hedges is the U.S.'s best! Watching Chris Hedges w/ Cornel West is Brilliant!! Chris doesn't believe in magic, just that the ancient literature (holy books) offer goodness as well as vileness
Feels good to hear a serious and beautiful conversation. Is it normal to find myself agreeing with Hamsa each time he says, pbuh. ? I’m repeating it with him. ! Telling Chris to preach when he makes a good point- or gives a favourite read of mine a shout out. Making an atheist fall back to old habits. Nice tho..
This is like the Krauss/Herzog interview - never thought Herzog was such a giant just like I never thought Hedges was such a giant before watching the interviews. I knew Herzog was a giant filmmaker and Hedges a giant journalist - but now I know they are giants! Giant human beings!
I think conversations like these are important because people, especially the educated type that fancies themselves "rational," tend to dismiss the works of theologians as being just brainwashing non-sense, and that's not true at all. Many great thinkers have developed their ideas through the prism of religion. Yes, even in the catholic church!
Thank you there is such richness in your conversation. There is an emptiness in the lives of so many in the western culture because they have lost or never gained that spiritual well which you discussed. In that light I had often wondered how the people of Gaza endured their life of control and oppression by the occupier. Now I understand. ,♥️
We need the security and care these people have for humanity and Allah give you much felicity on the day oppressors are overwhelmed by their oppression. May we never oppress ourselves or others. Ameen
Reading all of the worlds, so called "Holy Books", has been my hobby I've the past few years. Letting go of magical thinking and being able to read them as ancient literature, changed everything!
A wonderful discussion and a real delight to listen to 2 such well - informed, intelligent and deeply compassionate men. This should be compulsory viewing for us all to keep us, as Chris says, "on the right road."
We have today in these violent movies and video games that kids are subjected to a horrendously creative magnification of the violent cartoons of yesterday like Bugs Bunny and The Roadrunner.
Salam great video, I'm a new English Muslim from the UK, when is Shaykh Hamza Yusuf going to have a discussion with Jordan Peterson, I'm sure those 2 would become great friends! Jordan peterson was friends with Roger Scruton who was friends with Shaykh Hamza! Please try to make it happen, many people in the UK are asking for that dialogue!
People could probably live with stagnant economy, standard of living --- but not as atomized individuals. The trade-off was supposed to be alienation in exchange for a better life for the kids.
Such wise men. Jung called our evil side our Shadow. Richard Rohr and Thomas Keating have good teachings on spirituality to overcome our ego and connect to the Creator, which is helpful for daily life in these crazy times.
So, what you're saying is, there's a lot of wrath and it's just misdirected at the wrong things, plenty of such anger could be transmuted to righteous indignation, but ignorance and atomization prevents both understanding and organizing. Water your hatred with wisdom, tend your anger with understanding, till your wrath with learning, and know there are good reasons to do so.
Do we need religion or do we just need to do what Iceland and Scandinavia, very secular places, do which is to take care of our material needs? Not wants, needs.
Nice to hear Chris Hedges talk about something other than politics...at least at the start of this vid EDIT through the vast majority of this vid. Interesting. It seemed they missed one easy reason why people are angry - manipulation by the media
I think Hedges will be acclaimed in the future as one of the most important voices ever. If we as a species has a future.
Agree 💯
Have*
Absolutely... brilliance in his ability to communicate about the horrors and take on what almost nobody else will talk about truthfully, then draw hope in it still.
Chris Hedges is one of my favorite authors currently alive. May Allah reward them both!
Yes he is definitely one of my favorite. He has a very deep insight and I'm disappointed that I have not bought All of his books.
Love Chris Hedges he truly has the tools for explaining the deepest of insights of human nature.
Chris Hedges is my absolute favorite author. His writing, though bleak, gives me hope.
17:02 "What is a fool but someone who doesn't know who they are or where they're going." - Hamza Yusuf
This profoundly resonated with me. Thank you for posting this discussion.
That statement really resonated with me as well. I was that person he spoke of; particularly as a child, but it manifests in different ways. This will certainly forever change my view of anger.
Great Conversation. Nuanced and compassionate just like true Islam is.
Thank you for listening.
I would love to see Dr Cornel West on this pod cast.
Chris Hedges is great!
I love his political analysis on American politics and foreign policy.
A beautiful, intelligent, & insightful conversation on the human condition. Well worth the listen!
Ma sha Allah the Shaykh looks healthy and happy. Thank you Zaytuna for this. God give the Shaykh a long life and the college success ❤
We're glad you enjoyed it.
Chris Hedges is a treasure of our era. May Allah bless him with success in this life and in the hereafter. May Allah guide him to Islam. And sheikh Hamza is a beacon of light. May Allah bless him with a long, healthier life full of baraka
Hedges is Christian minister. Do not be intolerant and respect his choice of path. Be better than this.
Pastor Hedges has always refreshed my soul !

This is a fantastic discussion between two very thoughtful men. Thank you so much for sharing.
I am a convict, out for 15 years, I teach in a prison also, and it is a very polite society. Chris is right on... their social system works, for what ever reasons. I still have the eye twitch...
I had the privilege of seeing Mr. Hedges speak in person a few years ago.
An amazing discussion. Thank you for this. Two of my favorite intellectuals!
This lecture made this atheist feel the spiritual love. This is example of really philosophical rooted religious discourse I admire.
Hamza Yusuf employs a profound and beautiful conversational toolkit, he almost appears to be flexing his politeness and a tendency to relate everything to a parable or passage from his faith.

Chris, I am incredibly envious of your knowledge and am privileged to receive it!
Hedges on the cult of the self is gold
Hedges so right about humans need for psychological/ hunger for structure. Prayer is important.
what an amazing conversation to learn from. Thank you to the both of you
Absolutely incredible! Thank you both.
Incredible conversation!
What a power house chris is. He's the best we got.
Without You Chris we would be lost. I'm sorry they were they way they were to you over trump and hilary. you are thanked, you are appreciated.
Great meaningful, enlightening discussion on the cause and solution to our number one problem...ourselves and the illusions we are fed and/or create.
Wow amazing discussion! Filled with so much insight, wisdom and intelligence! Food for the soul.
What an Amazing conversation, you guys couldn't have said it any better and the whole world needs to hear this in order for it to correct its behavior..
its a war of quantities against quality
Chris Hedges is the U.S.'s best!
Watching Chris Hedges w/ Cornel West is Brilliant!!
Chris doesn't believe in magic, just that the ancient literature (holy books) offer goodness as well as vileness
Excellent video quality. Well done, director 🌸
What inspirational talk! Thank you.
Chris Hedges sees better than most philosophy professors I had in college.
Feels good to hear a serious and beautiful conversation. Is it normal to find myself agreeing with Hamsa each time he says, pbuh. ?
I’m repeating it with him. !

Great talk. Two of my favorite intellectuals.
Seneca's "On Anger" is a must. If we were taught this 70-some page work in middle school, we could wipe out anger at its root.
What a wonderful conversation. Hope to see more of you two conversing together!
Thank you there is such richness in your conversation.

Ma shaa Allah Hamza yosuf with Chris Hedges a well known politician . Bless you both .
nobody deserves to be wealthy in a society of injustice
Thank you. It was spiritually refreshing to listen to these two men. Thank you.
Fantastic conversation, thank you
Thank you ✌️
SHINE BRIGHT GUYS!!💥👍LOVE FROM AUSTRALIA!!💚💛🧡👊🙌
Contentment is peace for the soul
It would a good idea if you split these great conversations into chapters using the new feature in UA-cam.
That new feature rocks
The sheikh has an amazing office. May Allah bless him, Ameen.
We have today in these violent movies and video games that kids are subjected to a horrendously creative magnification of the violent cartoons of yesterday like Bugs Bunny and The Roadrunner.
Fascinating talk. Love Chris Hedges!
i find this to be a very needed conversation and wish everyone in the wold could see it
Self understanding and self acceptance also allows one to draw from one's own Spiritual Well.
Very interesting conversation!
43:44 prayer gave them structure, I was perfectly safe
This is why prayer is the pillar of Islam.

Amazingly useful!

This is so amazing!
No way!! This is awesome!
Such wise men. Jung called our evil side our Shadow. Richard Rohr and Thomas Keating have good teachings on spirituality to overcome our ego and connect to the Creator, which is helpful for daily life in these crazy times.
I’m blown away by this. Chris explains Mass Murder Mentality and how it comes to be.
Thank you.
redemption is one thing, restitution is another
Just an amazing discussion. 👏
Good talk. Really enjoyed that.
AssalamuAlaykum
I really hope Sheikh Hamza Yussuf and Jordan Peterson meet each other and share in a platform like this.
I agree with him on his theology. Though I am not a follower of John Calvin I follow Peter Chelickicky the writer of the net of faith.
Hedges and Peterson should talk. I personally think Hedges is 100x more insightful and deserves just as much recognition.
Great conversation (AND you shot a laptop conversation well !)
Glad you enjoyed it!
People are being rewarded for their aggression and narcissism.
It is always a pleasure to listen to these talks. They are so enlightening. Keep it up Zaytuna!
While Muslims hear public prayer 5 times a day, Americans need to hear Hedges over same 5 times a day.
two guys who realize right is right and so is wrong.🙊
Nice . Thank you both
I think that violent video games may not cause you to be violent to others, but if you disrespect others' lives, you may disregard your own.
Loved it.
wonderful discussion
Put your cheek upon the earth was magnificent ❤️
wao... my two favorites together....
Read the Upanishads … thank you
There's a little tribute to Bob Dylan near the end. Thanks, Hamza!

I’m here after the Buffalo NY shooting.
I wish to study under such men I’m from the Uk
Do we need religion or do we just need to do what Iceland and Scandinavia, very secular places, do which is to take care of our material needs? Not wants, needs.
Why not both?

That is a demonic force. 🤔
