I'm 60 yrs old, in my 3rd year of competing, and just finished a sprint tri, 400M swim, 20K bike, 5K run in 1:06:12 (best time so far). My pacing strategy was go as hard as I could...that's it. If it didn't hurt I wasn't pushing hard enough. If I couldn't breath I was going too hard. Finished 1st place in my age group and 12th overall. Oh, and my chain came off on my bike at about the 7K mark (took me about 2 min's to get back into the race). I feel that people way over think sprint tri's, I know when I started I did.
Thanks for your comment! You are doing great. I feel the "go as hard as you can" strategy works better for quicker athletes, but less well for those who might be out there for longer.
Didn't find this useful. Very unspecific. Who is the audience for this? If beginners, you don't need to include a potential of 16m finish for a 5k. Anyone hitting that time is going to be very experienced.
Thanks for your comment. Pacing your tri appropriately to your abilities is key to any successful race - and that applies to triathletes of all levels of experience. Keep in mind, too, that fast runners aren't necessarily experienced triathletes.

Doing my 1st one in 2 weeks. My goal is 1 hour and 40 min. And to enjoy it. I'm 40, thanks for the tips
Super! Can't wait to hear how you get on. Best of luck at your sprint tri. 🙏🏻
