Beautiful. Definitely my favorite routine so far this season. Power is always amazing, but there really is something to be said for a gymnast who can tell a story through dance, in 90 seconds.
This was a pretty solid performance. A lot of little things to address, but I expect she’ll score much better at nationals after getting more numbers in training.
Okay honestly this was way better than I thought the score would have indicated. She got the 3.5+punch, just needs to keep it in bounds (or do a leap instead). Her whip triple was fantastic. She made a smart decision downgrading her 2.5+Front full -> front tuck (no credit, of course). And her double pike was passable, but just needs a little more energy! -She must have gotten her Memmel downgraded, she lost the 0.2 in her third pass due to lost CV, and her split leap full might also have been downgraded, thus resulting in her 5.2 D-score. All things easily fixable. Kara’s not out of this.
@@You-dh1du When I first watched, I didn’t even realize the 3.5 was completely underrotated. She did a much better one at camp, so it could have just been a one-off thing. If it’s not, it needs to change.
I love when gymnasts throw hard skills cleanly like Kara but if she can't get that 3.5 around by championships then she should take it out and do something else like a 1.5 punch double twist because she's so close to getting that devalued, I'm suprised the judges gave her credit for it she really Shang-ed it hard. Also, why is her e score so low. she never made a major mistake in this routine there's no way she should have almost the same e score as Biles who fell.
To be honest, Kara was VERY close to touching the ground in her double pike, and she probably incurred the maximum non-falling penalties (0.8) for it anyway (landing posture, two large steps, flexed feet, etc). But yes, she needs to either get that 3.5 consistent or do something else (like her front layout + front double + front tuck, which still for her 0.2 CV, but just a couple tenths lower in DV). But it would be worth it.
The 3.5 needs to go ASAP. She hasn't fully rotated it on any of her attempts. Odds are it will always be devalued like it was here. As a result, her triple full doesn't count. She could also easily get a season ending ankle injury. Whip + triple full front layout + front double full back 2.5 + front full double pike switch ring 1/2 switch leap 1/1 double y turn idk like a double L turn EDDDDDDDD- 3.3 CV- 0.5 CR- 2.0 it's a 5.8 even without the whip it's a 5.6
Yeah if anything she could do like a whip + triple + punch front since we know she’s capable of it! 0.4 CV on top of that. Honestly I’d say get rid of that front layout + front double pass entirely and only do three passes total so she actually has enough energy for her double pike (her hands were this close 🤏 to touching the ground). And yes, her dance elements need to be simplified. Thus, her routine would be: -Whip + Triple + Punch Front (0.4 CV) -Back layout 2.5 + Front full (0.2 CV) -Double pike -Memmel -Switch ring + Split leap full -Switch split half EDDDCCCC 2.9 + 0.6 CV + 2.0 CR = 5.5 DV But her execution would be so clean she could score in the mid 14s to be honest.
@@noahbyrd6080 It seems her Ring will always be downgraded + deducted, unfortunately that needs to be removed, even though it looks pleasing now. I'd like to see her try this: 1.5 twist (C) + Double Arabian (E) + stag leap (.3 cv) Whip + 3.0 twist (E) + Front tuck (.4 cv) Cat leap + Switch split 1/2 (C) 2.5 twist (D) + Front layout 1/1 (C) (.2 cv) Memmel (D) + Illusion (.1 cv) Split leap full (C) 6.0 difficulty and should keep her in a good execution range at the same time. If the Double Arabian isn't something she can do, then go back to the Front layout + Front layout 2/1 + Front pike for a 5.7 difficulty score.
I highly doubt her 3.5 was downgraded, only because there's a rule that states that if a connection is succesfully made out of the underrotated skill, it will fully count. She probably got murdered in her dance elements (she dropped her heel in the Memmel and didn't fully rotate the switch-full so the switch-half she does shortly after doesn't count either, all of that plus the punch front out of the 2.5 that doesn't count either)
no, its a 3.5 twist into punch front, but she didnt go around. It couldnt be triple + arabian because she intends to do whip+triple, and you cant repeat skills
Kara needs to do a three-pass routine so she has more energy for that double pike! Just do like a whip+triple+front tuck (0.4 CV) for the first pass! Then her 2.5 layout + front full, and THEN double pike. As it stands now, she probably got the literal maximum in landing deductions on her double pike (0.8 without fall). -0.3 body posture upon landing -0.3 large step (beyond one meter) -0.3 another large step to meet it
I'm trying to figure out the d score too because they didn't count the memmel for sure and she downgraded the 3rd pass but if they did count a memmel and the 3.5 punch front than her d score would be too high if you add them. I think that they didn't count the memmel or the switch leap 1/1 and her 3rd pass gets no cv so those would all bring it down. I'm too lazy to add them up but if that's still too high I could see the judges devaluing the switch ring leap as well.
They definitely counted the first pass as a triple + arabian and devalued the switch 1/1 to a switch 1/2. Then they counted the arabian as the 8th skill (it's worth B i guess) because she repeated the triple, and that would make it a 5.2 D score.
Her 3.5 twist attempt is literally only a 3.1 twist at most. That pass should be called as 3.0 twist + arabian...which sadly means her actual 3.0 twist afterward should be completely invalidated, when judging with the overly rigid competition rules. Her hideous Switch ring 1/2 is at risk of invalidation too, since it could be called as Switch split 1/2, and she already has that element when her Switch split 1/1 is short, like it was here.
There's actually a bizarre rule in the COP that says if a twist is directly connected to another acro element, then even if the twist is underrotated, it won't be devalued.
Yes she just needs to do her regular split leap full and switch split leap half. Two solid C elements with 0 deductions! And that 3.5 + punch front needs figuring out soon. But I know there’s a line in the COP saying that if an element is connected out of, the element should not be downgraded but upheld in favor of the gymnast. So what likely happened is a bunch of her dance elements got downgraded, and of course her second punch front wasn’t credited. She needs to do her double pike earlier in the routine though because she was like 🤏 this close to touching the floor with her hands. She needs enough energy and that pass has always been a problem for her!
The first pass is honestly fine because they can’t devalue a twisting element that has an immediate connection. She got in trouble on the third pass for repeating the front tuck which only lost her a tenth. But her leap series immediately after was honestly horrible. No where close to 180 or ring position. I think basically all her leaps were downgraded and then some didn’t count because they were considered to be repeated
@@marciomarcallobo4662 Her 3.5 was a triple, so her actual triple wasn’t counted, and she lost CV on her third pass, and some dance elements were downgraded too.
They didnt credit her 3.5, so it got devalued as a triple, then her whip triple was ignored because you cant repeat skills. thats why she's missing .7 from the intended score
They did credit her memmel, and the ending isnt a ferrary, its a switch ring half, a ferrari is a full ring (but not switch). One of her triple twist got deleted because they credited her first 3.5 to triple
The construction of this poor girl's routines is criminal. First the beam ring disaster and now this? Once one element gets downgraded, it spirals down to other elements being repeats and she loses value for that! Her routine needs to be revised asap.
Guys... this is a 3.5 twist punch front... let that sink in. The problem is that she didnt get credit for it, she got credited for a triple, so her whip to triple got absolutely ignored (since you cant perform the same skill twice in a routine) So let me do the intentded D score. its: Acro: F E D D, Dance: D D D C Cv: 0.5 CR 2.0, D score: 5.9, which is a much better score
I thought there was a rule where if you made a connection out of a twisting pass, you'd always get full credit for the twists, even if it was under-rotated (e.g. Shang Chunsong under-rotates her twists quite regularly).
No they counted that (somehow) but they didn’t count the memmel, and she only did a front tuck out of the 2.5 instead of a front full which gets no cv.

Once again, a routine designed to fail from this gym. We all know about Kara’s beam rings fail but these coaches did the exact same thing to Leanne Wong on floor before and it blew up at nationals when she did what Kara did here. The 3.5 was only a 3 and the actual 3 got zero points. On top of that, her feeble attempts at rings in this routine likely got devalued to just split positions and that resulted in the devaluation of the actual attempts at split position leaps. These coaches suck at routine construction. If a gymnast cannot reliably do a skill, don’t put it in and if it’s somewhat likely to get devalued the way they execute it, don’t put what it may get devalued to in the routine at all to avoid getting 0 points for an element. She’s a beautiful dancer, but the rest of it is a mess.
Um. If you connect out of a half twisting skill its automatically given. This can't be devalued because she did a front tuck out of it. She did 2 front tucks tho wtf lol.
