I've had two état des lieux in Paris, both times shit was broken and the walls looked like hell but I still got my full security deposit back. I think there's a certain level of shittiness that's acceptable in Parisian apartments that just wouldn't fly elsewhere. When I moved out of my apartment in Germany in 2019, there were some marks on one of the walls, something a Parisian wouldn't even notice- immediately lost my whole security deposit 😅🙆♂
I feel you! When I had my final walkthrough in Germany, the Frau was like "Why isn't the shower curtain washed or this tiny hole thing in the sink isn't clean??" Es tut mir Leid but I had a roommate who was living there still? They are very a-wall about it.

A tip regarding getting rid of sentimental things! I move 1-2 times a year at least, and I have always had a problem with letting go of things. Emotionally, it's pretty hard. But I learned from an older gentleman in group therapy to just take a picture of it. You don't need to physically have the item to feel those same feelings. A digital photo triggers the exact same emotions, so I made a private IG account for my digital hoarding and it's one of the best things I've done. I recommend it to anyone struggling to let go of things they know they don't need to lug around, but might still feel a connection to.
One college drop out to the other, how do you do it? I've always wanted to travel, learn different languages, and make some side money but doin this adult thing isn't the move AT ALL! Seeing you be able to travel the world and enjoy what's out there is so awesome! Maybe there's hope for college drop outs 😭 Wish you the best, and rooting for you 🤩
