- My Yamaha R15 V2 is 2.5 years old and i have done 38000 Kms on the bike without any issues. Off late there was some engine light warning that even the service center guys couldn't understand at first.
The engine started making some sound that i ginored for couple of days. One of the mechanics said its R15 engine timing chain issue, however I did not want to show it to a local mechanic and thought of waiting till the weekend to take it to showroom.
That was a big mistake and lead to my bike engine breakdown. The bike made some Tuk Tuk sound and bike stopped all of a sudden. took it to a nearby mechanic and he said the engine has seized.
Here in this video I have shown the parts that got replaced and how the engine was repaired.

This proves that it's not about the brand of a motorcycle but what matters is how you maintain it. Engine oil, coolant ( in case of liquid cooled motorcycles) and airfilter conditions and everything is pretty important always. And for everyone's information, without proper care, even Japanese machines like the r15 or our own homegrown Pulsar, a Honda, or any motorcycles for that matter is susceptible to damage. So it's not about brands or their reliability quotient that determines a motorcycle's longevity but how well these machines are taken care of is what really matters to prevent catastrophic failures like this from happening. So please please take care of your motorcycles. So remember engine oil = lifeblood of an IC engine. So change it regularly without fail.

MysticRider Prateek No but my brother had an 2013 Pulsar NS 200 and he used to maintain it correctly as he did regular oil change and coolant change and did lube and cleaned the chain n sprocket at regular monthly intervals without fail. And the only thing I can say is that the pulsar kept performing at peak levels all the time and the machine never ever did let him down not even for once and we can Aram se vouch that the reliability levels were just like that of the Japanese machines due to this very fact. This is as per our experience. If you do proper run in and proper maintenance I think almost every machine would last longer. So take care of your machines and they'll take care of you...ride safe brother.
Mere pas r15 v1 2011 wala model he bhai.. 65.000 running.. abhi tak engine khula bhi nehi he.. R15 have best engine... Just maintenance achee se karna chahiye...

I don't why people don't change their engine oil on time. My 2012 R15 v2.0 has clocked 1,34,055 kms till now, still going strong. Changed engine oil at every 2000-2500 kms (fully synthetic from motul). Will replace my timing chain soon.

Not much of touring but once in a two months (approx 500 kms ride). But my bike does 72 kms daily (to and from office, 5 days in a week) hence this much of mileage.

Prateek I have v3 but my jealous friend revved it very hard before 1st servicing, now I am getting around 37 and was getting 45 before , how I can undo these things. Bike manual says to service after every 3000 km should we change engine oil after 3k km or 2k . I bought on 1 Oct 2018
@@krishnakeshav7777 bro after the free services of your showroom you should change your oil to motul 300v fully synthetic oil and try to properly warm up the bike before started riding it and keep the chain tight and maintain the tyre pressure as per prescribed by the Yamaha 👍

Nice videos..very honest mechanic..I think what happened is timing chain guides got loose/damaged.which changed the timing of valves/tappets and valves hit the piston and got bent.I don't think it was oil starvation problem.because your piston would have been stuck/seized in cylinder long before the timing chain guides would have damaged.just keep the engine noise in check.

Answer to all those who feel Yamaha engines are Bullet proof.
I really dont understand the term Bullet proof.
Even Splendor engine is bullet proof for that matter if durabaility is concerned.
No engine is bullet proof.
You have to maintain enough engine oil to avoid engine seizing.
And any other reason for depletion of engine oil like Valve problems or Piston problems may cause engine seizing.
I have Pulsar 150 UG2 crossed 1lakh kms with same bore kit given by company though it started to smoke and was changed 3 years back.

It stopped working on 23rd May. It didnot work. Now I have purchased new block, piston, etc... the mechanic asked me to buy a new crank-shaft. Should I but this too or will the old one work ? The price is around 9000/_ that is extra.

Do change your engine oil after a ride of 3000Km to 4000Km or after 4 months. it losses its property of lubrication and thermal maintenance in engine. if your not sure even with the km and the time of duration just check the stickiness of the oil, if it is lost then guyz the time has come to change the oil. the oil texture will be close to water when it has to be changed and guyz do carry engine oil if going for long rides and coolant is also one of most important to avoid engine locking. if you are irritated by coolant change try to get G13 coolant which is a life time coolant just need to add water if the level goes down. its colour is nearly to pink and mixed 50% with water and give the service guy for first installation.

The oil is only good for separation of the other impurities as the oil is taken from another oil how much it is maintained its properties with less impurities is good oil thats it :)

a simple tip even if your oil is not so sticky you can save your engine .just add 20 rupee oil when you full your fuel tank . feel the change in the ride .this would increase your average and ride quality and also avoid damage to your engine . using 220 pulsar since 5years almost 52000 kms completed .no engine issue yet and still run at top speed. this solution reduce vibration also.

I have r15s 2016 model . With odo reading of 10300 kms right now.
M facing a strange issue of starting the bike after parking it in direct sunlight for 10 minutes. It takes 4 or 5 cranks to start. Though it start in first small click in very cold morning.

Don't u feel or notice the lack of power and difference in the sound of the engine reving ? That itself indicates the time that u start observing and get urself ready for the trips to service centre. (U can monitor and change the oil by urself too).

Mere bahi ki passion aur meri boxer ko ek saal se jyada bina oil ke chalaya bikes ka performance bigad gaya aur rough chalata hu me. Boxer ka clutch plate gaya. Clutch plate aur oil badla bike fir se nai jaisi ho gai. Solid engine 👌💪

16k I almost got an heart attack. Sorry Bajaj owner got my Pulsar180 block piston kit, clutch plate replaced in 4k it's air cooled so was spared though..R15 is a gem of an engine.. all the best with your ride..

although companies stress on getting bike serviced at showroom, but I don't think they are so dedicated like gully mechanic. once my R15 had a starting problem, I went to showroom and the guys said that my ECU was fried. and they changed it. few day later I had same problem and I went to a different service center. there the problem was identified as damaged starter motor. I was utterly shocked. it's better to show your bike to a trusted local mechanic sometimes.
True...and you can sit with mechanics and see what's happening in the bike...
my bike had starting problem and first quarter km would be very rough. Showroom said reboring estimate 6k. Local mechanic said coil issue and estimate 2k. I myself diagnosed it as a carburetor jet issue and changed the jet myself and problem solved at Rs 110(0.11k).
Stop checking engine oil, better change oil for every 1500 kms for 3 interval of service and then change the oil as usual as company recommended.I've experienced same on fz and but didn't get seiz. One more thing is never ever use third party engine oil. Bike company are not idiots , they test the bike at certain condition to till the limits. So better use company recommended oil. This will help you in future.

All good brother... But at least you and only you should buy parts from showroom... Never trust these mechanics... I have R15 V2 and I have completed 1 lac plus KM no problem in engine no clutch plate change yet and still its rocking.. Tc of your bike check engine oil, colent, break oil on time.

I face the same issue on my hero ignitor, the first sing is your bike engine oil was burn faster. Before 1500 km. If you do not check the engine oil in regular intervals, you can be a sufferer.
If any one detect his bike consume engine oil please solve the issue as early as possible. It cost lesse.
Changed block/cylinder and piston and balancing gear in v3 as the engine is making more noise but after changing this all it is making same noise and my mechanic says that is will be okay in some days but till then u have to maintain an average speed of 40kmph and at low revs. wishing for the recovery soon. For a biker it Hurts more than an heart when this happens to ur bike 😭😭😭

Mine was siezed too .. when i opened the engine there was no single drop of engine oil 😂 . I had to chnge the block.

Thank you for sharing this video, hats off to the mechanic. Very less people are out there like him, i feel the problem started with the clutch plate and a lot of aluminium particles were rotating in your oil because of worning of the clutch hub, that affected the rest of the parts, i have a question here, why didnt you go to the person who changed your clutch plates? If the clutch plates were the latest thing you changed in your bike and post that some problem occurs then surely that is the red flag there. The person must have taken the responsiblity.

Dhawal Nagchandi Glad that you liked the video buddy...yup I was lucky that I got the right mechanic near to the place where engine seized...Yes the issue started since I changed the clutch plates...When I showed it to Yamaha service center guys, they couldn't identify that it's due to clutch plates...and then for some reason I had to leave my bike for over a month with a friend...wasn't maintained during that time and when I came back this happened within a week...
Have been maintaining it properly since this incident...

Yeah... sad! I had similar experience with my Karizma years ago.. Karizma had a tendency to burn the engine oil and thus reduce quantity as well as quality. Need to top it up every 1000 kms or so.
What was the prescribed oil change interval for your bike?
And for how many KMs did you run the bike for, before it got ceased?

First of all thanks for the video. Don't abuse your bike like this bro. I also own 2011 R15 V1. If you are not able to change oil frequently then try to use full synthetic oil as it has longer life than normal oil, I can say it's almost double like I change oil after every 5000-6000 km this is for safer side the oil runs even more. You'll come to know when you'll change it after 5000-6000km and will realize that the oil is still in good condition.

sanjay pathak Mine wasn't changed for around 4k KMS bro...you should change around every 2k KMS for proper maintenance
I am using pulsar 220f it has almost done 81000 km ,till now engine is not opened,it is still working with the same clutch plates .

I’d that sound on my V1 about 2 years ago and stopped the firing. I was pretty disappointed because it wasn’t easy to tow to a service centre but luckily when I started at night I found the current was flowing to the body through the spark plug caps. I tried to put a wooden pieces to stop the passage and worked. But actually the valve are movable and it will do the close open actions right? So if the mechanic pour the liquid it should come through it right? I dont have much knowledge in mechanics but just saying.
