    For all miserable like myself: that bloody microswitch preventing the start in Planner mode is set under the table, on the left side, facing the machine as planner. See very careful the chapter in manual "Surface planer mode" - Place dust collector connector (this
    is not the chip chute mentioned in step 1!) below the infeed table into the machine. Observe correct position of the dust collector connector: ... slide dust collector connector in until the point of intersection of shaft and axis below the infeed table (arrow) is exactly above the matching seat of the dust collector connector. 9. Crank the thicknesser bed carefully up to secure the dust collector connector in position. 10. Connect a suitable dust collector to the suction port of the dust collector connector. 11. Cover the cutterblock with the cutterblock guard extrusion. Metabo should have paid much more attention to this chapter and very clear pictures. Besides this, the machine works just fine.

    Thank you for this help. I bought one in 2023 in UK and to be honest, there is now an addendum, a second manual, which complete the old one. And the explanation are now OK.

    Bro, I finished setting up my machine and am now happy jointing and planing and its thanks to you. I had to call a Metabo service guy during the setup and he actually told me to go watch some youtube videos .... which is ridicules since your video is the only one that really explains stuff and its been up for only a month or so.
    BTW, the reason I called him was that my outfeedtable was higher then the cutter, so my boards got stuck on it. The Metabo guy told me that I dont know how to joint .... I ended up adjusting the outfeed table (secured by 4 allen screws) and fixing the problem by myself.
    Anyway, Im very happy with the tool and making stuff with lumber that is actually straight is so much easier .... lol
    Thanks again buddy, your video helped alot.

    Thankfully didn't have too much issue assembling but glad I watched your video on the dust collection!!
    Just to add....there is a small hole/recess on the table adjustment rod immediately after it goes through the first hole in the table so you know how far to screw the rod in. The first tightening sleeve screw will fit in there.

    This is something I keep humming and ahing about but I haven’t got room and I don’t think I'd be physically able to keep passing timber through it. I can take my time flattening by hand as I can’t do big projects and can only work for short periods.
    It looks a nice machine once you have it set up though. You did a brilliant job of showing how to set it up and it seems like you’ve helped a lot of people.

    I have the Elektra Beckum version of this, still going strong after twenty years hard use with one repair service in that time. A great thicknesser planned for a small workshop. As a thicknesses i love it, as a jointed planer not so good, the out feed table is a little weak for big stock material, though it does do the job for smaller stock. If I had a bigger workshop i would get a solid steel dedicated jointer.
    Make sure that you keep the screw threads clean of chipping and dust as they can become clogged and makes adjusting thickness table difficult...a quick blast out with a compressor works well before use. enjoy

    Youve the same planer as me. It's around 3-4 years old when I picked it up around 2 months ago from a bloke up the road. Worked fine in his workshop didn't work at all when I finally managed to get it out the car. It took hours to fault find on it before I could get it working. Spares for the HC260 are readily available but advice online limited, as are the manuals (like you say). I'm sitting on hours of footage of the repair which I'll put up sometime but it will be interesting to see how you get on. All the best. Karl

    Thanks, great video. Positioning of the system to get the microswitches to trip and allow it to operate is difficult. The video help saved a lot of time (a clear picture of the interior switch would be nice....!). Being alone, as you were in the video, it was possible with great care and against the recommendations of Metabo, to tip the whole box up to remove the planer onto the floor upside down before fitting the legs - no need to destroy the box - the expanded polystyrene more or less survived the process so that it would still be good for a return in the original packaging if necessary. The positioning of the 3 collars on the infeed table height adjuster rod is completely unclear in the manual. The arrangement suggested in the video is different from the one used here but the table still moves up and down. It is actually possible to mount the infeed table without removing all the bolts; only the outer bolt on the fence side needs to be fully removed, the others can just be loosened. Agreed: the manual is totally dire, the .pdf versions too. Its diagrams don't scale to allow examination of the detail. They diagrams are simply scans of a printed version - very unprofessional - they should be vector images that scale well.

    Thanks a lot for posting the video - I bought one nearly a year ago but have been running my Record Power till now - thought the assembly would be pretty similar as the machines are similar but it wasn’t!! Totally agree - the manual is rubbish: incredible that Metabo has produced such a good booklet (printing / design wise) that is almost useless in so many critical aspects of the assembly!! I got stuck with with the outfeed extractor and it was your vid which sorted it out, thanks a lot. Overall the Metabo maybe slightly better than my Record Power (still have it ) and easier to change from planing to thickener mode but what a pain in the bum to assemble. The way you have assembled the infeed table knob may not be what Metabo had in my mind but I don’t think it makes any difference - it works and nobody cares :)

Can I ask, does this handle go as far as it can, then you lock down the stop nuts? Excellent Matt. I set mine up in about 3 hours then watched your vid. I had to laugh as you found exactly the same problems as I did. The electric box - no mention; the fence - already assembled; the jointer adjustment - how on earth are we supposed to attach all those bits; the hidden micro switch when fitting the dust extractor in thicknesser mode. We get there in the end and, in the end it is an excellent machine. I produced square stock with perfectly square and parallel sides. I'd recommend the machine and your video. I hope Metabo read these comments.

  • @jimweatherhead7154
    @jimweatherhead7154 5 років тому +1

    Just revisited the in-feed table adjuster and think you may have assembled it incorrectly on your video. There are 2 metal C clips that locate in the grooves cut into the threaded portion of the adjusting rod. I think these go either side of the threaded hole followed by the steel washer outboard of the 2 C clips then the retaining rings with the grub screws go outboard of the steel washers. I get the impression the combination of these items is to act as a stop in either direction. I may be wrong but it's a theory.

    • @tanyaroyredcar
      @tanyaroyredcar 4 роки тому +1

      This is correct. At 04:21 you have assembled it incorrectly. The manual is awful at this point. The whole mechanism should be disassembled as you have done, then feed rod partway and add stop (with grub screw) as you have done. Then, pass the threaded rod further into the planer and add stop (with grub screw) then washer. Feed the threaded rod into the threaded hole within the machine. Next add washer, then remaining stop (with grub screw). There are 2 recessed guides on either side of where the threaded rod passes through the bar and you should insert the 2 C clips (circles). Next move the stops (and washers) against each respective circlip and tighten the grub screws. Slide the third grub screw (the first that you added) to the end of the infeed table and tighten the grub screw. Nightmare instructions by Metabo. Leaves you guessing at a few points. Nice planer though.

    I know exactly what you mean about those micro switches.

  • @chillyspoon
    @chillyspoon 5 років тому

    Looks to be almost the exact same machine as the Record Power PT260 - even down to the terrible manual, which I emailed RP a complaint about after figuring out how to put mine together. It has the same useless image of the in-feed table lift control (I made the same choice as yours for the lock positions) and the same inconsistency with the power switch box. The cutter guard mechanism is a notable difference between the machines, it's mounted differently and really fragile on the RP machine that I have (2 years old), perhaps the factory changed that design. The RP wheel kit works well; perhaps it would fit the Metabo machine too.

      They do look the same. The wheel kit looks good. I might make a stand for it

    • @chillyspoon
      @chillyspoon 5 років тому

      I agree - a stand is definitely a better bet in the long run since you can use it for storage etc. While the wheel kit is really strong, it gets in the way and is a dust trap and I probably would have built a stand by now too if I could face trying to get the darn thing off the legs and onto a stand - as you said in your video, they're surprisingly heavy!!

    (4:24) I believe the chapter 5.3 of manual depicts different way how to mount infeed table height adjustment rod. This way (as in the video) the table can slide down inadvertently when the rod is turned out of the "cross holder".

    Hey Badger, Just got mine today and guess where I am stuck too. My infeed rod has circlips as well as the lugged washers so I am completely baffled as they were attached to the screw itself (I assume it prevents screwing the bar too far in or out. Any idea I noticed you dont have them at all.

    • @Badgerworkshop

      From what I remember they go either side of the casting under the table. I hope you get it sorted.

      My next issue are the micro switches, i can engage the switch and get it to thickness but to surface plane i cannot see anyway for the dust extractor (pipe connector to sit in the inside to engage the switch) to fit , you say in the video there is a cut out to fit over the switch but I dont have that at all. Any advice?

    Hi Matt,
    Just picked up one of these and got it (mostly) operational thanks to your video. Having a bit of trouble with the positioning of the washers and locking nuts on the infeed table rod. Can you please explain how exactly they are positioned. Cheers.

    • @highjuice
      @highjuice 2 роки тому

      Had a nightmare as well. But, figured it out I think.
      2 rubber rings go on outside of table closest to the handle. When you insert the rod through the hole in the table then add all the rest of the items in order. Screw in the rod to the threaded receiving cross bar. Now, there is a small hole in the rod that will appear immediately after the first hole as you screw in the rod. The tightening ring small allan bolt inserts into this hole on the rod and ensures you've threaded the bar enough. So, rubber rings, hole in table, sprung washer, washer, small hole in rod where tightening screw goes........in that order then the rest. The clips go either side of the cross bar on the threaded rod section.

    This is very similar to and most certainly made by the same people as the Record planer thicknesser. It has the same appalling instructions and I have to say agricultural appearance. I bought mine last year, 2020, but TBH, I'm not impressed. Too tricky to quickly change from one role to the other.

    I have to agree, the manual is completely waste of time, machine itself is OK for a semi professional category, now I have to figure out how to get rid of all micro switches, there is no need of any of them, if they did a simple machine they fuc... ed up with those micro switches, not 1 but 3.
