You (CarsAndCrashTests) mentioned to me about there needing to be more improvements with restraint than what is already out there. This inspires me. With that assume they should be able to make some improvements to seatbelts too. I thought about a harness, or even just adding one or two more points of restraint to seatbelts. You started with the lap belt, which seems useless by modern standards except to prevent ejection. Then the shoulder-belt really helped. Im sure it would not be THAT expensive to add more to current seatbelt designs. More points of restraint. Adding slight elasticity to belts to extend deceleration time.

I share your passion for making cars as safe as possible. I, too, thought about improving seatbelts as a way of improving crash survival. Years ago, some manufacturers used to add stitching in seatbelts that would tear to lengthen the belt but that happened so early in the crash, it actually contributed to poorer restraint in a crash. Now the combination of belt tensioners and load limiters are likely the best solution for deceleration in a crash.

Ehhh, I'm not so sure anymore. So many automakers have caught up, and some have even surpassed them. The XC40 was just surpassed by the Mazda CX-5 in the new side impact test the IIHS is doing.

@@carsandcrashtests While automation has its merit and is probably the ultimate future in auto safety, It concerns me that once this is ubiquitous, all of the fancy physical advancements in vehicle safety will be gradually removed from vehicles!!! To say nothing of the steering wheel! I know we cannot stop evolution, but I am emotionally invested in structural safety advancements in cars, All the crash tests, as well as that whole part where you actually drive them. Hell, one day im sure it will just be a thin box on wheels with a really smart computer in it. Advanced and improving airbags and structural designs hold a special place in my heart and I dont want to see these replaced by the soulless and creepy advance of technology. Consider the idea I have that we underestimate the threat solar storms inevitably pose to all these networks and computers. I get the feeling that investment in safeguards against solar activity have never taken the same kind of priority as the safeguards against hacking.

It all comes down to a good seat/head restraint combination.

Do you have Volvo 240 GL moderate overlap crash test?

I do not, if I find it, I will upload it. Fun fact, my dad's boss used to drive a gold 240 GL and I always thought it was such a cool car.
