He's talking to the dark, balloon carrying, black face makeup, black hoodie wearing Nate...his pain, his fear, his pride...his burdens. The person he's talking to is him. This is my favorite track on the album. Saying goodbye hurts even when saying goodbye will help us. We humans are a complicated bunch. ❤
Beautiful explanation there, but you clarifying that you're human raises suspicions. Are you sure that you're not an alien? LMAOOO. I'm kidding. I saw an opportunity and I took it.
He’s 100% talking to past Nate. This is my favorite track on the album hand down. Relatable af on my end. …also if you’ve done the Journey, this is the hardest song in his catalog, if you think about it. Just from the meaning and perspective of it.
@@GaryHicks It's certainly a human because he says he loves them and that he hates to see them cry. He wouldn't "love" depression and depression cannot cry. It's the black hoodie Nate from previous albums and the end of "Hope."
People lately talkin’ about how Jack Harlow and mgk going back and forth about who is the 2nd best “white rapper” after Eminem. However, on ALL levels NF, surpasses BOTH of these guys, sales, creativity, skill, endurance, impact, mc, top albums, reputation, message, positivity out of despair etc… Its no contest, those guys battling for 3rd at best, lol. 😂
This is one of my favorites. I love how it can be interpreted in different ways. Whether you know you have to change within yourself or change who your surrounding yourself with... leaving a toxic relationship or aspect of yourself behind is the only way to reach your full potential.
Definitely talking about his former self or possibly a conclusion to the idea of personifying Fear. Previous songs he says that fear and him have been together since they were a kid. He let fear into the house voluntarily and was in a “relationship” with it for his entire life. Always putting him down. “Spent my whole life in your shadow, scared.” Break up song for fear, doubt, depression, anger, darkness, burdens, all of it. So fire.
The sound engineering on this whole album is sick. Buy the album and put on some good studio headsets. I listened from start to finish in one sitting. This is a real album and this is a ride.
He’s talking to depression, or rather just the side of him that’s been holding him back all these years. This song is probably my favorite on the album, had me ugly crying. I needed this song/album bad
Jai always knows what to say to make Half feel heard, but also being positive, pulling her out of her bad headspace when she thinks about the past, while also carrying on the video. Props
I take this song as the culmination of the dark Nate. The old him. He’s saying goodbye to who he used to be and is walking into the light as the new/ happier him Beautiful song
my take on this track is he was talking with "dark" Nate. gotta remember he personifies his emotions. one thing I've noticed is hope is in each song .can't wait for y'all to hear pandemonium. pure 🔥. this whole album is a good vibe! Nate pushed through so much to get where he is today, "hopeful" and confident with who he is, and it's showing in this album.
Agreed. Even more specifically, I think he’s referring to the traumatized child in him. That’s what makes the most sense to say “I love you to death” about, while also blaming them for sabotaging him.
My favorite track!! Thank you!!! It's his negative emotions/ his pain his pride his depression, he is so used to it and it got him to where hie us, it's been part of him for all his life, but it's time to let that part of himself go.
He's talking to his other personalities present in previous albums. He started his album fighting pain with HOPE. And the whole album was discussing the topic and he closes the album with "Running" which is him officially saying goodbye to his darker Nate personalities which is such a powerful and beautiful closer to such a powerful album
He’s talking to his trauma self, I’am healing ❤️🩹 now and I can’t keep living in that state of mind anymore! We love ❤️ you Nate! This album is stellar!
He’s talking about his dark side from his previous albums and how he found the light and let go of the person he used to be and made it out to the other side! I am so happy for him! This is by far my favorite song by him!
I think he is talking about letting go of his pride & fear, which keep him locked in his depression. In "Happy" he says, "...I'm too proud to open up and ask ya/To pick me up and pull me out this hole I'm trapped in/The truth is, I need help, but I just can't imagine/Who I'd be if I was happy." He's been running from depression all along, but he realizes he's held the key to his freedom for years. Way back in the song "Mansion" he said about his isolation/anger/depression, "...I'm trapped here, God keeps saying I'm not locked in/I chose this, I am lost in my own conscience..." Though it's scary to step out of the comfort zone of living in his past hurts and become a new person, he is finally making the choice to let go.
Most of his career has been led by his alter ego Fear and Pride. This is him saying no more and that he's finally taking the lead role in his own life. The song is also perfect as a reflection of a breakup. So your thoughts on the song EASILY align with the song. I love you guys and love your reactions! I'm glad you two felt the hell out of this song! This song is probably my all time favorite NF song!
He's saying that he is done running from all the fears, regrets, pride, and all the rest of his personal demons. This is just how I took the song, I could be way off. Great reactions. Respect and Love from Townsend Tennessee.
"Running" is kinda follow-up to Hope. To himself, to myself, to yourself. Love this song, it's fav. of mine for this album. He kinda tells how a strong mental should be. Embrace yourself and walk to the hope guys!
That’s the thing about nf all of his songs have more than one meaning that’s why he is such a special in talented rapper you can take it both ways he talking to his old self he doesn’t wanna leave but hes ready for this new life, and you can take it as talking to a past relationship
This is Nates best album hands down. So much emotional and versatility on this album. Definitely a 10/10 for me. Ive been listen to Nate since 2015 and its been an absolutely amazing journey to watch him grow into the GEM he is today.
IMO, he’s talking about himself and he’s letting go of his darkness and burdens. He’s starting to accept everything he has went through! He accepts it and he’s going to move on and quit being depressed and getting effected in his present life. This my favorite song on this album! Great way to end this beautiful album!
He is talking to his other self like in hope intro single. His dark place and dark depressive thoughts. He is showing he is done with that part of himself controlling him. Great way to end the album He ended it with Hope..
30 years of darkness , he’s telling himself he can no longer allow his dark side to sabotage the happiness in front of them , he needs to break away from who he is to be who he wants 🤘🏼 who he is and who he wants to be couldn’t connect he didn’t know why , finally dawned that he was holding onto to much sorrow 😢 this album is an extension of himself not a completely different man but a man finding healing within himself and actually forgiving and letting go of what’s been holding him down for to Damn long 🙏
I believe he is talking to himself. In my 36 years, NF is the first artist I’ve listened too that I completely relate to every song he has made. Mental health is such a destroyer if not taken care of in a positive way. No discredit to woman but especially in men. I have spent my entire life bottling up everything because that’s what I feel I’m suppose to do as much to be strong for my family. This song I believe is the real battle, which is yourself. You mentally destroy yourself more than anyone or thing can.
He’s talking to his dark side. He’s letting go when moving on. This is a very powerful song . He is by far my favourite rapper doesn’t need to curse to express his pain and anger.
Remember that Nate always personifies his feelings and refers to them A LOT as she. He is talking about himself. In this album he has let everything go.
My take is the same as many about this song, that it NF is talking about his personified negative emotions that he has used in many of his songs. Though in particular the “I love you to death” part confused me for a while, but after some consideration I think he means that he loves those emotions because of what they have brought him (family and success). At the same time if we look at ‘Happy’ for a second, where the lyrics state that NF doesn’t know what he would be like happy and that he is comfortable in agony, you might be able to draw the conclusion that he loves his negative side because he doesn’t know anything else other than that. Just my take, feel free to disagree or correct me on it as this was just off the cuff
He’s talking to us alter ego, he’s done with that past self. But he’s scared of change and who he may become without that comfort of residing with who he was
He's talking to past NF and his pride. He's finally saying goodbye to the dark NF, the one that was full of anxiety, depression, and fear. This track is so dang powerful. My favorite track overall, because he's turning the page.
NF is talking about pride, fear anger ect. Everything he went thro it’s about himself and how prideful he was he’s finally letting it go knowing it did nothing for him
He's taking about his own depression, it's not about a relationship with a person. It's about his relationship with himself, again with his own depression and fears like others have said!
He’s speaking to fear / anxiety. He has always personified his emotions. Think back to Hope and how he starts the album arguing with Fear and saying it’s time to move on from their relationship with one another.
It's not a person, it's "fear, depression, + all his dark emotions" he mentioned on his old albums. On his last album he had a track titled "hate myself" speaking of his depression.
He's talking to the dark, balloon carrying, black face makeup, black hoodie wearing Nate...his pain, his fear, his pride...his burdens. The person he's talking to is him. Amen! Surrender is so hard, but so essential to our freedom.
Beautiful explanation there, but you clarifying that you're human raises suspicions. Are you sure that you're not an alien? LMAOOO. I'm kidding.
I saw an opportunity and I took it.
This is my favorite on the album! Such an amazingly beautiful way for him to say goodbye to his fears and depression and embrace hope!
💯 The perfect bookend to Hope
My favourite too I love this song i can resonate with it so much. Can't wait to see nate in Dublin in October
He’s 100% talking to past Nate. This is my favorite track on the album hand down. Relatable af on my end.
…also if you’ve done the Journey, this is the hardest song in his catalog, if you think about it. Just from the meaning and perspective of it.
He's talking to himself ❤️
His depression and darkness, specifically. Such a tremendous song and such tremendous growth in Nate over the last 4 years mentally.
@@GaryHicks It's certainly a human because he says he loves them and that he hates to see them cry. He wouldn't "love" depression and depression cannot cry. It's the black hoodie Nate from previous albums and the end of "Hope."
@@makefootballviolentagain5258 a different version of himself, i.e. an emotion which is what Nate does. He personafies his emotions.
he says it... holding on to you its time to let my.... PRIDE.. go and learn to love myself again.
@@stfuytp he's definitely talking about pride
Such an amazing song! You guys are on point, he's talking to his depression/darkness. So amazing how far Nate has come mentally.
Right, but he wrote it in a way that would relate even if you didn’t know the entire backstory 🔥

I’m so happy for him, he’s busting all the charts, just when he stopped caring
Hes speaking of his pride. "I'm tired of holding on to you, it's time to let my pride go and learn to love myself again"

“Nate You’ve Had a Great Run!” - Hope
Listening to this album start from finish gives you an even greater appreciation for this song
Love Running, i think a perfect ending to the album. Voice sounds great. This song is fitting for lots of situations and will connect with so many.
Great reaction, I feel like he’s talking to his pride and who he used to be. He references his pride briefly at the beginning of the song😁

Half & Jai - I’m so glad that you found each other! The bad relationships of our past, let us know what we need in our present. Love you two!❤️
Well said
So glad he's delt with his trauma and said goodbye to his mom and the hold she has on him.

It's deeper than that.i think he's talking about his pride sabotaging him or his burdens
It can be interpreted as talking to someone else but if you truly follow his journey there is no question he's talking to himself.
He’s definitely not talking about a person. He’s talking to his shadow
He came in this album talking to himself, and went out of the album talking to himself. Mastermind.

It is deeper than you think. He is talking to his older self.
Best song on the album ❤️

He’s speaking to fear / anxiety. He has always personified his emotions. Think back to Hope and how he starts the album arguing with Fear and saying it’s time to move on from their relationship with one another.
He's letting go of pride. He's done running.
Oh please say my name!!! Great job and the song was lovely and I think a lot of us have felt that way at sometime.
Love love love the ❤
NF- mistake or Turn my back both 🔥🔥🔥
Guys, he is not talking about a girlfriend or partner! He's talking about himself in his struggles of his past.
He’s talking about the dark side of NF. Black NF,Smile face NF with the balloons.
he is actually speaking to his past self, depressed self, his pride and fear. thats why its the perfect bookend to hope. not talking to a woman here.
I’m also thinking it might be his past Nate’s talking about ONLY because of the albums name of HOPE.
Yeah. His Ego. He's speaking too..
He just dropped his ego off a cliff, man. What a way to close an album
Lol yall hit pause and I literally hit my play button.........
