Not so much that he could “sense” it per se, but the Luke was a big thing after the battle of Yavin, and the Empire probably had spies in the Alliance.
With the exception of the first movie where there was blood, (first time and world building had just begun) lightsabers always cauterize the wounds they cause.
The Empire Strikes Back, was the first film I remember seeing, ever. My first word was, "Chewie". The air of uncertainty, before Return of the Jedi, kept everybody up in space, for a few years. Empire is my favorite, out of the whole series.
@@Alyska Oh, ok haha! Also, you were right, lightsabers usually cauterize wounds right as they cut (except for certain species, I think?), so that's why we don't see like a huge fountain of blood from his arm, haha ;-]
The biggest reason is that dreaded ratings bump due to graphic violence. If there's spouting blood, suddenly it will go up to PG-13 or R rating (depending on how graphic). The fiction just happens to match it.
Star Wars episode 5 for me was my all time favorite Star Wars movie before episode 3 came into my life plus the iconic line “I am your father” seriously the best line in Star Wars
The funny thing is that it was such a big secret when they were filming that the script had Darth say "I killed your father" in order to not have spoilers leak. So the real line was only known by a few and put into the movie in post and that's why it blew everyone's mind back in the day.
Joakim Rannikko holy shit i didn't know that wow that's a good way to keep a secret and bro is still a good twist cause i watched the holy trilogy first so that surprised me but thanks for the fun fact I'm gonna spread that around
this is a nitpick, but this film was made before cgi was commonplace. (not including shots from the special edition edits). So what we see instead are some of the most creative practical effects of all time. Im probably stating the obvious, but it felt worthwhile to mention
the original line was actually supposed to be "i love you too" (to leia) but the actor of han solo thought it was too cheez and changed it to "i know" fun fact
Boba Fett was introduced in the Holiday Special (watch at your own risk) and immediately beloved. He was so popular Lucas gave him a role in the following movies. He was even added as a cameo in the special edition (which you watched) of A New Hope during the scene with Jabba. Even though he's the original Mandalorian, it's debated whether or not to canonically consider him a Mandalorian due to the ambiguity between Mandalorians as a human race (genetic heritage), a nationality (legal citizenship), an ethnicity (cultural), and a code (rules/religion).
"Where's the blood from his arm being severed." Lightsabers don't leave blood, Alyce. The blades are extremely hot, so they instantly cauterize any wounds they leave.
Tucky 421 That's the only instance of a lightsaber leaving behind blood, and I think it's because they didn't have the technology to properly show the wound being cauterized
@@pademelon2216 "and I think it's because they didn't have the technology to properly show the wound being cauterized" - naw, all you'd have to do is blacken up a fake rubber arm end...i think Lucas only thought about cauterization afterwards for TESB film...that, or that creature from the Mos Eisley cantina just has blood that's much more runny than human blood (which would actually be plausible, if his planet has stronger gravity than Earth).
DeathToTheDictators Perhaps. I dunno, I guess the point is that the lightsaber cauterization is part of the Star Wars continuity, but it wasn't yet established in episode 4
@james marshall as mentioned in the earlier comment, its the Mandela Effect. People remember something collectively that did not happen yet swear blind it did. Shaquiel o'neil played a genie in a film called Kazaam.. but everyone alive in the 90s remembers a film with Sinbad playing a geenie called Shaazam. Apparently Shaazam never happened, yet many people including myself vividly remember it happening. So we either all slipped into an alternate universe when the Large Hadron Collider was activated and are now in a universe where Shazaam never happened yet we believe it did.. or its the Mandela effect.. in which we all believe vader said "Luke, I am your father" instead of, "No, I am your father"
@2:30 *"how did it just suddenly explode from 2 hits?!"* - I always thought the reason that AT-AT blew so easily was becuz the shots were aimed at the cockpit-access bridge where the armor is weakest
Joe G I always assumed it was because any shields they had up to reflect the shots went down when the Walker crashed. It does make sense that there’d be less armor near the top, just like in tanks today..
Two small things. A) The Mandalorian is set several years after this movie B) When she kept saying "shoot him, shoot him" at Han, I was like, you did just see Vader take away Han's gun right??? Shoot him with what exactly?? My damn auto correct works slower that the buffer so it ends up spewing out crap I didn't type. Sorry y'all.
Lightsabers are that powerful/energetic that sounds normally get cauterized... which they didn‘t thought of in the previous movie in the Mos Eisley cantina when Obi-Wan chops the dudes arm off
This was brilliant timing with this upload. Literally just finally finished Death Stranding (watching your playthrough, I mean), and as soon as they say Louise, get the notification. BTW, if Luke looks a little different from part 4, it's because Mark Hamill was in a car accident shortly before Star Wars came out and he fractured his nose and left cheekbone, hence why his face might seem different from the pre-accident filming.

Fun fact, the dumb helmet that the AT-AT commander was wearing was originally concept design for Darth Vader that they ended up just repurposing somewhere else. The helmets were intended to remind you of German coal scuttle helmets from WWI and WW2 to add to the "evil" vibe.
Vader has Han tortured (and makes Leia watch, presumably) so Luke will feel his pain. He's gotta find out about the bait in the trap somehow - Vader can't exactly comm him and tell him he has his friends, after all.

13:36 "Less CGI cost" yeah, CGI didn't exist when this movie was made.
It did actually. It wasn't used in this movie tho
Anybody else unable to stop themselves from singing "Seagulls! (Stop it now)" during certain scenes in this video:?
Vader had Solo tortured without questioning so that Skywalker would sense Solo's pain in his future vision.
i wonder why Vader could sense Luke was his son, but failed to sense "the other one". torturing _this_ individual would have been a more brighter beacon to Luke.
Not so much that he could “sense” it per se, but the Luke was a big thing after the battle of Yavin, and the Empire probably had spies in the Alliance.
@@gawainethefirst Palpatine knew it somehow, when did he share it with Vader ?

Yoda taught Count Dooku
Count Dooku taught Qui-Gon Jinn
Qui-Gon Jinn taught Obi-Wan Kenobi
Obi-Wan Kenobi Anakin Skywalker
Anakin Skywalker taught Ahsoka Tano
Yoda taught Anakin's sonLuke
They were torturing Han so that Luke would sense his pain on Dagobah in the past.
Yoda explaining the force to look is one of my favourite moments in star wars
With the exception of the first movie where there was blood, (first time and world building had just begun) lightsabers always cauterize the wounds they cause.
I'm pretty sure the lore explanation is that he has different biology (hence why Maul bleeds too when he's cut in half).
They tortured Han so that luke would feel his pain through the force and come to try and help
13:36 CGI? There was no CGI in 1980! 😋
The Empire Strikes Back, was the first film I remember seeing, ever. My first word was, "Chewie".
The air of uncertainty, before Return of the Jedi, kept everybody up in space, for a few years. Empire is my favorite, out of the whole series.
I was thinking about mentioning the original quote when reading the video title, but... I mean, it's kinda played out.
I changed it to the correct one, my bad! :)
There's no blood when his hand gets cut off because the lightsaber's heat cauterises wounds instantly
The *FORCE* inhances you're natural abilities such your jumping power, and your running speed.
Revenge of the Sith is the Best !! This one is a second imo Great video as always !

It’s so rare to find someone who hasn’t watched this films. It’s great cause then I can relive the movie vicariously through your reactions 🤗
this is a nitpick, but this film was made before cgi was commonplace. (not including shots from the special edition edits). So what we see instead are some of the most creative practical effects of all time. Im probably stating the obvious, but it felt worthwhile to mention
It's extremely interesting to see a first-time reaction from someone who's seen The Mandalorian beforehand.
the original line was actually supposed to be "i love you too" (to leia)
but the actor of han solo thought it was too cheez and changed it to "i know"
fun fact
Boba Fett was introduced in the Holiday Special (watch at your own risk) and immediately beloved. He was so popular Lucas gave him a role in the following movies. He was even added as a cameo in the special edition (which you watched) of A New Hope during the scene with Jabba.
Even though he's the original Mandalorian, it's debated whether or not to canonically consider him a Mandalorian due to the ambiguity between Mandalorians as a human race (genetic heritage), a nationality (legal citizenship), an ethnicity (cultural), and a code (rules/religion).
"Where's the blood from his arm being severed."
Lightsabers don't leave blood, Alyce. The blades are extremely hot, so they instantly cauterize any wounds they leave.
What about the guy Obi-Wan cuts his arm off in the Cantina scene?
Or the giant snow monster
"Was that a mandalorian?" Oh sweetie...
Thank you someone had to say it lol
It's "no, I am your father" not luke
My bad, I changed it!
Is the Mandela effect
@@riahaze64 The no one cares effect is upon us
@james marshall as mentioned in the earlier comment, its the Mandela Effect.
@@mattgarrett2583 I heard Shaq played a genie in another movie that came out the same year but wasn't as successful.
"Away put your weapon! I mean you no harm!"
flash forward, yoda is beating R2 with a stick
@2:30 *"how did it just suddenly explode from 2 hits?!"* - I always thought the reason that AT-AT blew so easily was becuz the shots were aimed at the cockpit-access bridge where the armor is weakest
It's explained in Rebels that the neck is the weakness with little to no armour/defense.
Joe G I always assumed it was because any shields they had up to reflect the shots went down when the Walker crashed. It does make sense that there’d be less armor near the top, just like in tanks today..
Two small things.
A) The Mandalorian is set several years after this movie
B) When she kept saying "shoot him, shoot him" at Han, I was like, you did just see Vader take away Han's gun right??? Shoot him with what exactly??
My damn auto correct works slower that the buffer so it ends up spewing out crap I didn't type. Sorry y'all.
I think that it's great you're finally watching the star wars films. The original trilogy is a life must.
Not just the big reveal makes it great - the characters, the cinematography, the humour - just an amazing movie.
Yes, Vader is Anakin Skywalker.
on Tattoine everybody and their grandma told Luke his father was a great pilot, but should it not also be known on Tattoine Anakin became jedi ? you cannot influence everybody not to tell Luke about. in hindsight with episode 1 it is plot hole IMHO.
@@rivenoak Luke was told he was a spice trader (hence a great pilot). They (Owen and Beru) lied to Luke, why couldn't they lie to everyone else? In case you didn't notice, they live in the middle of nowhere.
2:05 "That was for Danny Kendall, Mister Bronson!"
9:54 After watching this again and noticing that some of those torture devices are used by dentists makes the scene all the more terrifying.
10:22 The torturing of Han Solo was to create the disturbance in the Force that causes Luke to leave Dagobah.
You should react to the prequels after return of the Jedi! :)
yep, very interested to see Alyce's reaction to Vader _pre "ball sac head"_ 💀
Yep... troll-biwan kenobi (my nickname for him) is the best character in the prequels
"He's hand solo" may be one of the best Star Wars puns I've ever heard."
You're right, he wouldn't turn
And Don't Call Me Shirley 😀
They didn't put his hand back on. Luke's hand was lost in the atmosphere of Bespin. That's a cybernetic hand (i.e. robotic but made to look organic) that you see being put on in the medical bay.
@4:00 the music during those *Millennium Falcon* chase scenes were one of the most _Epic tracks_ of the saga, imo!
Fun fact, the dumb helmet that the AT-AT commander was wearing was originally concept design for Darth Vader that they ended up just repurposing somewhere else. The helmets were intended to remind you of German coal scuttle helmets from WWI and WW2 to add to the "evil" vibe.
Fun Fact: Harrison Ford wanted Han Solo to die but they were against the idea
Wasn't that for RoTJ, he wanted him to have a heroic death, since the character had nothing else to do?
Beau the whole point of the carbonite was because they didn’t know if Harrison was gonna come back for ROTJ
Light Sabers instantly cauterized all wounds. No blood!
Vader has Han tortured (and makes Leia watch, presumably) so Luke will feel his pain. He's gotta find out about the bait in the trap somehow - Vader can't exactly comm him and tell him he has his friends, after all.
Couldn't Vader just force skype the torturing scene to Luke like in the last jedi?
@@user-sh3vz3ol3j Please DO NOT bring up the conventions from the Sequel Trilogy. For many fans they BREAK the lore more than anything else. I personally don't consider it Star Wars at all.
If you include the Force Skype, Healing, Force Ghost assisting during fights, Force Ghosts using the Force and impacting he physical world.....it makes Obi-Wan and Yoda's decisions in this movie make no sense.
Best to leave those HORRIBLY constructed new conventions out. That is why alot of OT fans HATE the sequel trilogy. It messes with the lore
@@user-sh3vz3ol3j I guess not. It's possible Luke discovered this ability on his own. Or that you need the light side to use it.
Unfortunate, you can not tell the diffence between and opinion and an obvious joke. And no, I wasn't being serious. Disney SW is fake SW.

Boba Fett is not just a Mandalorian, HE IS the OG Mandalorian.
I hope at some point we get to see who would prove to be more worthy; Djarin vs Fett?
The Fetts are frauds.
Fett's are not a mandalorian, he's just wearing their armor.
The actor of Luke, Mark Hamill, had a car accident between the 1st and 2nd movie which changed his face quite a bit... they added the beginning scene with the Wampa capturing and hurting him to explain that change in-universe

This is where the fun begins.
Vader tortured Han for two reasons. One to draw Luke, and second because Han had annoyed him by escaping so many times.
Return Of The Jedi has always been my favourite of the original trilogy tbh.
Why have I never thought of the pun "Hand solo" before, that's too great!

The AT-AT walker's weakness is the neck. Well covered if it's operational, very vulnerable if the AT-AT is brought down.
