  • Garrett tests out his brand new Rem 700 in 6.5 CM. This is a high quality heavy fluted barreled 6.5 Creed with a HS Precision stock. This is an Out of the box accuracy test. We will be running some hand loads coming soon! If you'd like to help out, give us a thumbs up. That helps to spread the video to more people.

    Last Remington 700 ever. After doing the standard upgrades of bedding the receiver lug and putting in a new trigger, I took to the range and ran a box of Hornady 140 grain through it with impressive results. As l go to place it back in the case I notice the cerakote on the receiver not just flaking off but coming all off. Three in a row with issues out of the factory. The other two were from sloppy quality control with the chamber. Local gunsmith was a factory rep. Very disappointed and my new rifle is now in Remington limbo land. Tried a Tikka and Bergara both shoot great without the upgrades. Sorry Remington love the way they shoot but your competition is making theirs better.

    I switched to 6.5CM this year out of a Savage 110 Storm and I love it. I'm using the Hornady 129 grain American Whitetail and it's very accurate. I also shot it through 1/2" board and then into gallons of water to catch the bullet...I got excellent retention and expanded to 3/4" at the widest point. That round is a great all around hunting and target round.

    Good to know on some of that ammo. I was always a bolt gun hunter but stopped hunting 12+ years ago. A couple years ago I purchased a S&W Performance Center 6.5, thinking it will be cool to shoot at the range but never as accurate as a bolt rifle. It's defiantly not against a bench rifle, but a bolt rifle out of the box? With that Hornady match ammo it is consistent at -.75" 5 shot ragged hole groups shooting off a atlas bipod. The rifle shoots accurate enough with that ammo I haven't even bothered hand loading for it yet. A friend keeps hitting me up about going hog hunting so I may try the accuracy of something like Gorilla ammo and hand load some ammo. The Hornady match is hard to beat for paper shooting
    I ordered a Remington 700 Sendaro 26" heavy barrel in 25-06 and 300 win mag when they were first introduced back in mid-90's. Was able to set both factory triggers at 1.5 - 1.75 lb, have not checked them but both feel the same today. Now 25 years later the new 700 trigger sucks, that's messed up. I loved deer hunting with my 25-06 and hand loaded Nosler bullets, took deer out to 525 yds and never had to track a deer, probably took over 50 deer with that rifle. But every time I get behind the 6.5 at the range I think to myself, I wish I would have had this when I deer hunted!

  • @dgreenapple
    @dgreenapple 4 роки тому

    Three ammos I've used w my 6.5 that are really outstanding and probably better than all you used but the "Match" are Hornady Precision Hunter, Hornady Superformance and Berger Match Grade Elite Hunter (yellow box). The Berger was the most versatile in that it performed well in two different rifles, while the other two were each best in a specific one of the two rifles.

    Looks like it might like longer/ heavier pills from that display of the ELD-Ms. Most of the people I know that have a 6.5CM with an 8 twist shoot around the 140 weight. Should definitely load up some GMX to try not only on deer but shredding some chucks! Can't wait to see your hand loading results. Love where you guys are taking the channel.

    Love the vids man. I sub'd. I always wonder whats up with the barrel cooling between groups. I just picked up a Delta 5 and took to the range yesterday for first time. Shot five 5 shot groups back to back to back with different ammos. All groups were sub MOA 3 of the 5 were .75" or less. Does the cooling of the barrel really make a difference? I had 0 fliers or anything. I am brand new to precision shooting so just asking here I have no knowledge other than that experience from yesterday.

    Good video well edited. My suggestion to you on your next purchase front and rear sandbags. Myself who tries to get the most out of the rifles I always use a good bench set up then Im testing the rifle not my rest and myself. Of course a person is always testing themselves. Friends that own the first generation 5R remingtons they get fantastic groups out of those rifles. I would expect the one you tested to do better. You did a great job with the video. I'm going to look into more of your videos.

    • @ChuckinTV
      @ChuckinTV  4 роки тому +1

      I’ve since gotten a set of bags that “match” each other. Truth be told this was much more stable than a bipod and rear bag is (which I’ve shot off of plenty). I’ve got a set of bags that I’ve been handload testing off of and they work very well. You think factory Ammo should / would have shot better out of this gun if I had better bags? Your friends g1 r700’s have gotten better groups out of factory Ammo with factory triggers as well?

    • @blaynemacpherson8519
      @blaynemacpherson8519 4 роки тому

      Chuckin' I believe that a better bench set up could have gotten better results on some of that ammunition. When you were getting the big big groups that is the ammunition but some of those smaller groups I believe could have tighten up because of the bench set up. The ones that my friends have shot with the match ammunition is 5/8 - 3/4 inch groups at 200 meters. Those rifles are tack drivers. I believe the one you have in that caliber could shoot better. Yes it was a factory trigger but I’m not sure if it wasn’t worked on. Yes factory ammunition. When I also test ammunition handloads or factory I also load them one shot at a time. I’ve noticed with my hunting ammunition that if I shoot one or two shots from the magazine that the lead tip gets flattened with the rest that are in the magazine so my thought on that is maybe it affects accuracy. I’ve never tested the theory. Maybe I will this year. What are your thoughts? Do you think that the bench set up is important for getting the best results out of your rifle. I’ve gotten good results with a bipod but my rear bag was solid.

    • @ChuckinTV
      @ChuckinTV  4 роки тому +1

      Blayne MacPherson I totally agree about the mag loading issue with soft tip bullets. All of my hunting loads are either polymer tipped or open tip (Berger 140gr VLD hunting) and no lead to get mangled. I DO think a bench rest absolutely influences handloads where the tolerances are super tight. I do not believe that a better bench would make factory Ammo shoot any better than this however, I call out any shots I feel are my fault and point them out in the video. During this testing it was a very calm day, about 40 degrees out and I was very solid on the setup I had. We do this test specifically with a brand new rifle and break it in just before I start filming. I broke it in and sighted it in with the American eagle 120gr which you’ll notice shot better than the match Ammo so I found that super interesting, especially being the first Ammo out of the gun. Wait until you see my handload results!!

    I have the 24” fluted barrel version. I sold the stock and put the action and barrel in a Master piece arms BA competition aluminum chassis as well as changed the trigger to a Triggertech special trigger. The original bolt handle broke off trying to remove stuck S&B casings with a rubber mallet. I sent the barreled action to Rifles Inc to tig weld a longer EGW bolt handle and their accurizing service as well as installing a side bolt release. I reload 6.5 Creedmoore using Hodgden 4340 powder, Hornady 147 gr ELD match bullets, and previously Hornady brass and Federal large match primers. It’s a 1/2 moa gun.

      @StephenAnthonyJr I'm late by saying this the reason why people say remington is a bad gun is because of the trigger and the law sued that came with it. People claim that the gun would fire without pulling the trigger and by touching the bolt the gun will go off I personally don't own a gun and I know for a certain people are on both sides of the fence some say it's a great gun others say it's a terrible gun but I look at all the recent videos of remington and a lot of them are positive. I mean there are some negative here and there but overall the person reviewing the gun are happy that they bought it when you have a gun that have a lot of aftermarket I think you can upgrade it if you don't like the current look of the Remington.

    • @ratagris21
      @ratagris21 3 роки тому

      @StephenAnthonyJr the quality at Remington went down the drain the last 5 or so years because the CEO drove it into the ground. They were like Taurus at one time when QC was questionable. Taurus did a 180 turn and has made a comeback at least in the lady 5 years.

If you remove as many variables as you can when handloading, you should be able to get five shot groups you can cover with a dime. I like these type of videos. Try prone position next time using a quality BiPod and a solid rear rest and I bet you tighten all your groups. Also don't clean your rifle until you see accuracy decrease. I bet your groups tighten. There is something called copper equal Librium going on in your bore and it is possible your best groups will come between 50 and 200 rounds. I have seen my 7MM Mag with over three hundred rounds through it and it still shoots half min groups.

    For more than 30 years I was a Remington guy-not any more. If we assume that the presenter can shoot, the rifle is awful. I've bought several 700's in the last decade and Remington's quality control doesn't appear to be anywhere near what it was in my experiences. On the recommendation of a gun shop owner I frequent, I bought a Bergara B-14 (Remington 700 clone, only nicer) in the same 6.5 Creedmoor caliber. The rifle is on the light side, but it averaged 3/8" for four three-shot groups at 100 yards in load development. Guys, I'm not very good anymore as I'm 71 years old and my best days are a long ways off in the rear view mirror, so that should tell you something. Remington, please straighten out your act before I'm gone.

      Chuckin' May l say that you are on the right track with the 123 gr. ELDX at 2950.
      The Creed was designed for competitive target shooting over known ranges and it really shines that way.
      Having said that l believe it is also a good medium game sized cartridge within 400 yds. with that 123 gr. bullet.
      For hunting when things happen fast and you don’t have time to range it and dope it out my personal preference is my .300 win. Mag.
      I have never even shot a 6.5 Creed just the 6.5x55 quite a lot which is highly effective on just about anything with the right bullet and picking your shots carefully. That is under 300 yds. so therefore l am only speculating right now🇨🇦🤠

      Remington had an organizational change over a year ago. They were aware of their diminishing reputation and brought in new leadership who are actually 'end users' (Competitive shooters, Hunters, etc.) as opposed to the 'bean counter', cost savings, cut corners ( remove some QA/QC) types. Since 2013, I've purchased 3 ADLs ( 1 Varmint/ 2 Tactical) for the barreled actions with full knowledge that I may need the services of a local Gunsmith. I have not had any issues with any of the three. My Remington 597 purchased in 2012...well I don't want to write a novel about the magazine issues and the Remington customer service encounter I had. Long Story Short: I purchased 11 magazines to find 4 working magazines without feeding issues. I was able to return the other 7 to the stores I purchased them from.
