Great demo- what folks don't get about a true vintage low wind paf, is that it's very bright, clear, and articulate. With a touch of amp eq in a mix, that neck tone could just about impersonate a strat pickup. As soon as winders get'm just a pinch hotter, that neck chime is the first thing to go.
100% agree, Dan. I own a custom shop '64 SG standard reissue with underwound custombuckers. I also recently played a vintage 1960 SG prototype with real PAFs, and both guitars (one an excellent reissue and the other the real McCoy) are startlingly bright and articulate. From all the vintage and good custom shop Gibsons I've played, the pickups sounds SO different from the 490R/498T sound that so many people associate with Gibson guitars.

Really great-sounding pickups. I couldn’t imagine a PAF-style pickup sounding better. Thanks for the clean tone playing. It really gives the truest way to hear what any pickups sound like.
I found you through a Milkman search … I just gutted a Sire H7 Larry Carlton ES-335 clone Fralin Pure PAFs 50’s wiring with Bournes POTS GOTOH 510s and Faber tone lock bridge and stoptail. Thanks so much Robert! Let me know if you get some videos / clips up of that 335! Would love to hear it. Hit me up on Instagram in the DMs: instagram.com/edgeofbreakup The Pure PAFs are great pickups, really enjoyed playing them and making this. The milkman sound stuff is incredible. Have to say they changed my life with tone! You’ll love the boost channel on The Amp 100, you’ll never want it off - and then slamming it with the pop top boost is so satisfying. A few days ago, I put a Fralin True 60’s PAF (RS Guitarworks) version in the bridge of my ‘61 Standard, along with RS pot and cap. I was shocked at how much midrange it had compared to the Gibson stock pickup, which I actually kind of liked. Long story, but I really like the True 60’s. The best Fralin’s are in my LP, The Psychebilly ‘58 Greg Martin pickups. Not sure I could like a humbucker more than those. Anyway, great videos. Keep it up.
That’s awesome! Make sure to check out the rest of the series - I’ve showcased Seymour Duncans, Lollars, and just this morning Lambertones in addition to the Fralins! And more to come! Here’s the playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLLY1KzQHoiH2-QYuxyHKPgSDiNrVNLL0d.html
I can understand how you’d think that from a distance, for a rosewood it’s quite dark with very little visible grain. Glad you enjoyed the demo - by the way make sure to check out the other ones on Seymour Duncan, Lollar and of course the stock Gibson pick ups! It was definitely a journey!
Im definitely going to put Fralin pickups into my PRS SE Custom 24. Thinking about trying the pure paf, or the p90 humbucker, but what i really want to do is have the p90 in the neck then a humbucker in bridge. I need to consult Fralin for a good pairing first though to have a better idea of polarity, output, all that stuff
I’ve got that going on in a Frank Brothers Signature, with low wind p90 in the neck and low wind humbucker in the bridge. Good idea to consult them so you can get two that compliment each other in terms of attitude and output - that said, sometimes having them be pretty different makes for a more interesting approach with a middle position that is unique!
Fralins were more suited to a semi-hollow style guitar, the Sunbears were nice in a Les Paul. You can watch all the humbucker demos from my search here: ua-cam.com/play/PLLY1KzQHoiH2-QYuxyHKPgSDiNrVNLL0d.html&si=eXIFK8XjxZuYqB1R
Great demo, excellent playing and gorgeous tones out of those pickups. I love how tactile they are, they really respond to changes in the attack, very musical.
Great tone from these Fralins! Thinking of putting a set of these in my Reverend Contender.... Are these the 7.5/8.0 Pure PAFs or the 7.8/8.2 version of Pure PAFs?
Found this video just in time. Have had my 61 reissue for over a year now and the stock 61R/61T pups just haven't ever sounded all that great. Bridge is super harsh even with tone rolled off quite a bit and neck is muddy with any dirt. Heard good things about the Pure PAFs. Did you end up sticking with these?
The Fralins were quite good but I ended up going with Lollar El Rayos in the SG. They sounded great with one EQ setting on all pickups, and they worked extremely well clean or with gain. Those were my two criteria that were extremely hard to find with humbucker shopping! I will be trying Lambertones’ Crema humbuckers next…
For this guitar the El Rayos did it for me. I’d really like to hear these Fralins in a semi-hollow, I think the tightness would work well with the extra body resonance. We’ll see!

That clean Fralin neck tone is glorious!! Definitely my favorite so far 🤩 Pushed bridge is great too. Great note separation to my ears at least..
Having so much fun on this quest! I agree with your notes, cheers buddy!

Those Fralins are devastating. Are you still looking? I hear good things about Sunbear 59 humbuckers.
Landed a set of 59 SB-PAF! I’m always looking. :) Very good! Check em out here!

Great in the neck. I prefer a Seymour Duncan pearly gate in the bridge. Sounds killer in my faded sg-special
Oh rad! I’d love to try those. Only tried the Antiquities so far
Good man.. Try Seth Lovers (Duncan) !
Tried the Antiquities Humbuckers and they are pretty good with gain and fuzz, didn’t love the cleans.
Nice man these pickups sound great and so does your playing you got yourself a channel regular here now!

Yes yes oh yes
