I first started investing around 2018. Saving 10k in my portfolio felt like it took forever. But the more you contribute the larger the jumps you’ll have if you’re buying the larger market. I remember when I realized my net worth from investment accounts was over 100k and I was like… “oh wow, that actually wasn’t that hard.” Just get started
Thank you! We will :) Ah yes, the famous American philosopher Mike Tyson as we often call him, partly in jest and partly because he says some very wise things. He's quite a smart fella if you listen to him in various long form podcasts. Iron Mike - the GOAT.
I am also in the industry, and although I don’t always agree with your concepts I find myself agreeing more often than not and genuinely think you provide exceptional ideas and do a great job with your presentations. Keep up the great work!
That's great feedback, thank you so much! Always great to hear from people when they don't agree as then we can hear opposing thoughts and learn from the process.
The idea of course correcting bad behavior as quick as possible is so very important. There's a Munger quote that I think is incredibly hard for millennials and younger to follow in practice (paraphrase) "we got rich not by making a ton of very good decisions, but avoiding stupid ones". While it would be great to never make a stupid decision, as a young 20 something just starting investing it's incredibly difficult not to make blunders... the upside is that nothing is a better teacher than losing your hard earned money by no fault but your own. My losses have taught me far more than my winners have. Great video as always.
I got to 100k in a year from 0 by continously investing every paycheck but it seems to have slowed down for me, getting to a million seems like an impossible milestone thats so far away

Great video as always Joe. I was wondering what your team thought about the Hashicorp acquisition by IBM? That worked out quite nicely for me. Also, by chance are you going to revisit UiPath in a new video anytime soon?
Glad you enjoyed the video! Not sure the HCP acquisition moves the needle much at IBM but that might be worth taking a look at one of these days - a general IBM update. (Makes note in research queue.) As for UiPath, we covered them just weeks ago here: www.nanalyze.com/2024/04/could-generative-ai-destroy-uipath/ Joe P.
I'm 38. what I did to reach 100k (by around age 25 or so, can't remember exactly) was simply keep living and other expenses super low (lived with roommates for 7+ years, bought a used honda civic with cash, etc.), and also had no debt out of college; these two factors were a huge help. this meant I had as much cash to invest in stocks each month as possible. from that point I diversified into a handful of 10-15 stocks, sometimes got lucky with a biotech stock or other stock, sometimes got unlucky. all in all it balanced out and I came out ahead with stocks. I chose a a mix of blue chip (in theory, low risk) stocks and also small cap (high risk) stocks. the low cap stocks frequently went to zero haha. anyway, I think it took me only 4 years to reach 100k because of some huge wins. dumb luck mostly. my current goal is $100k+ per year in passive income, but got a long way to go still haha. moral of the story, anyone can and will hit $100k portfolio easily, assuming you gross at least 40-50k a year and utilize some common sense.
YEAH! A case in point right here. Congratulations man. Great job! It's very important that you don't count on "dumb luck" or what we call "beginner's luck" as the strategy going forward. Break everything out in a spreadsheet and describe it. If investing in small caps is more risky, maybe you want to reduce that risk. We don't invest below $1 billion market cap or (big no-no) if a company has no revenues. Keep going. Quantify risk and slowly look to reduce - or at least manage it better - as you age. Great to hear a story from the field!

Hey, that's all good and I love your videos. I am just thinking of preserving wealth/getting rich but also of our contribution to sustaining our western civilization that allows us (basically everybody who has a will and do some usefull work) to become wealthy. I.e. this will not last long if the average IQ goes down to 65-75. I know this is not exactly the topic of the video, but do you have any thoughts of having children/building family in addition to saving up/investing?
Great topic on its own. The decision to have a family ought to coincide with some sort of financial security. When that happens, the "amount I spend" category simply goes up relative to "amount I save" for a while though the principles remain the same. As for IQ and reproduction, that's a can of worms. As Elon Musk says, people should be reproducing as much as possible provided they have the means to give their children a good life. Stable nuclear families are generally going to have better results, for example. (Tiptoes slowly out of room.)

Really good job! So you ought to be nine years away from a million. That's not bad at all! Stick with it. Head down. Don't get discouraged.

Our DGI strategy - Quantigence - typically increase income by 8% every year while preserving capital. Try that in corporate America :)

The promise of graphene is always right around the corner. We covered the theme several years back: ua-cam.com/video/h-DWNEPawo0/v-deo.html
