Right now the restrictions and rules in the Czech Republic are as follows:
    1. As a foreigner, you are allowed to come back to Czech Republic only if you have residence permit here. However, if you are not coming from a "safe" country or if you have the disease symptoms you are obligated to stay home in quarantine for the next 14 days.
    2. Basically only grocery stores, drugstores, pharmacies and post offices are open right now. From 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. they are restricted to elderly people only (over 65 years of age).
    3. Everybody is supposed to stay at home. Meeting with other people if prohibited. You can only go to work, or go to stores for necessary shopping. You can also make a small trip in the park or outside Prague, but you need to be alone there.
    5. When you are outside from home (i.e. in public places, stores and public transport) you ALWAYS need to wear a facial/surgical mask or a respirator. So the FIRST THING, GET THE RESPIRATOR or at least the facial mask!! If you do not have one, you can use a scarf or something similar so that you safely cover your mouth and nose. Unfortunately, they are sold out in most pharmacies right now.
    6. When you are in public keep at least 2 meter distance from other people.
    7. You can use the "blue zones" for parking your car anywhere in Prague (or other cities).
    8. When applying these rules use common sense. The police is trying to make it as smooth as possible so they are not going to be checking you unless they have a strong reason.
Disclaimer: The situation is changing every day so stay updated.

    • @DreamPrague

I agree that there are limited sources of information in English however Czech people are willing to help and if you would ask any of your friends even me I would happily look for the information you need.
The issue with traveling was that circumstances were changing so often that noone knew if that's the final decision/information or just temporary restriction.

I have found your videos accidentally while at home with some time on my hands now (home office). Hats off to your Czech :o) I especially appreciate the way you use the inflection and conjugation. I can only wonder how my English sounded to locals 20 years ago during my stay in Wales (also, their accent is something you need to get used to!). As for the people´s fear to approach others - we were instructed to do so, "social distancing", we have state quarantine, so that is why. From my experience during those years in Britain I can understand the feeling of being sort of lost and suddenly more "foreign" than before. I wonder if e.g. US embassy in Prague could have helped with more info? Finally, I work in a place related to school - will your friend be able to teach children on an elementary level (like from say 7-8 years up)? I might ask our director nad put your FB page on our web. Sorry for such a long comment - that´s the perks of home office .o)

Hi Jen. I'm a Czech expat living in Switzerland and I empathize on so many levels. Listening to government press conferences in three local languages, while I can barely order food in one, and not even that in the other two, has been a frustrating experience. Without the two English newspapers (one of them behind a paywall), and a few coworkers willing to translate stuff, I'd be pretty much lost.
You might find this part funny though - I have similar feelings as you even with the Czech rules! For the last week, I have been thinking about things like "can I go home, if I need to, and can I ever come back?" And even though I'm a Czech, having listened to the briefings, the answer wasn't easy to discover. Written rules which were published many hours after the briefings, they were different from what was said, they were spread out on 4 (!) different govt department websites. Media wasn't reporting much on edge cases like us, or were reporting incorrectly, and the answers were changing multiple times a day. Around the weekend, answering my question of whether I should jump into the car and drive back home ASAP became moot - before I would reach the DE/CZ border, the answer would be different from the time I left ;-). If you have some questions, feel free to point them at me, I have been following this more obsessively than I should have and I would be happy to put that to good use.
Also, in this situation, people are being careful and many Czechs wouldn't invite other Czechs to their houses, just to keep the distancing. While I don't know your circumstances, I wouldn't necessarily point to xenofobia. I want to keep my house clear of anyone who doesn't need to be here, at least for now, and I'm sure many of us feel the same way.
    Take care!

Honey, you are a goddess! I am impressed that the community you are in is so dear to you to be generous enough to share the message for all of you. You are making a change for the better. I hope you are not getting scared of the news. I think most Czechs are seeing it as "let us buy toilet paper and pasta, just in case. Let us meet with friends at home, if the pubs are closed." I don't think people are scared for themselves, only for their kids and parents. It is an inconvenience, though. But Czechs will be fine:)

The rules are very strict. People can't go to see each other. If you need help, there is telephone number on the screen to call for information or to deliver food in you flat...
I think, you can return in Prague (if it's your permanent address) but you must stay in 2 weeks quarantine (it means, not to leave your flat for 2 weeks....you must order food to be deliver)

Jenn, I live in Seattle. Just want to tell you that it was the same here, no one visited anyone or invited people to their houses. It was also considered unsafe or even immoral to do so to prevent the spread of the disease. On the other hand, some people also decided not to wear masks (no leadership that would promote it). Good comment about reaching to foreigners or people who may need help. My daughter, who is a native speaker, is teaching English online almost every day. People should not be scared of it, it works great, and for some it is more relaxing than in person.

More serious video than usually. I hope we all end up safe and the life returns to normalcy.
What are the options for foreigners trying to return to ČR? How do You do now? I wish You can solve it as soon as possible and get back home.
The video gave me quite a perspective about the information barrier I never existed for english speakers in ČR.
True -> It’s indeed best time for doubling down on language polishing. (and create bond to the lang teachers, which I’d love do and supply the infos)
However, I gave up on polishing english (in active and organized form). ... While rather high level speaker, I’d love still improve... especially some accent stuff and identifying possible ingrained mistakes I do unknowingly (I’d love to be more natural while giving public speeches and similar stuff)... but it started to be exceedingly inefficient to try. I reached state, most would be satisfied to arrive... and I don’t know about anyone specializing in someone like me.
Do You happen to know about any way? :-)
Anyway I started learning Portuguese instead 😅

I don't feel isolated at all. I also have a group of Czech friends who speak Italian (which is my second language). My Czech isn't the greatest, but my friends never complain when I speak it; however, writing it is a different matter. 9:00 they are on živnostenský list because it is much cheaper and if they have actually 1 employer and work on živnostenský list it is tax evasion. Taxation in the Czech Republic is very high according to salary you pay between 40-50% of your income in taxes. Hi, hope you are ok. I watched some of your videos and find them great and glad you are enjoying Prague. Great Czech by the way. It is understandable to feel confused and overwhelmed in this situation that is happening right now. And with Czech they kind of just shut the door and focus only on close family. However, I watch the news and Czech Republic is relaxing the restriction so should be better (by the way I live in the UK) . You may find the social distancing being around for some time as people were scared and Czech dont trust too much to others ( I am Czech myself, but I would count myself into open minded due to living abroad and having friends all around the world). Would say czech are more reserved.
I am glad you highlighted the issue that people who moved to my country have not been explained what is happening. I think we should have more support system for this in place. Just thinking, on facebook is morning Prague group which is in english maybe that could help.
Anyway please stay safe and well. Gonna check out the rest of your videos as find them great. And I advertise you to my cousin to watch you. She has straight A's( jednicky) and dvojku from English. Unbelievable, and her auntie is living and breathing English haha😄😄😄😄

OSVČ pay income taxes alone, employees pay taxes as part of their pay slip.

Jen, your video is great and I believe you bring a new perspective over the curent situation.
For those who comment negativly, I understand that you can not understand the situation. Why? Because you can not easy understand. You are in the situation to have a family here, where you do understand the language and where you have on who to really on, more than just one person. Also, what you have here you can not have better somewhere else. With foreign people is all the way around.
Jen try explain that and bring some good ideeas we could work on it.
Government at this moment says stay home, don’t go to work if your job is in touch with other people and at the moment freelancers dont have guaranties for tomorrow. The government make no promises for thouse people yet and if happen to you be foreign and freelencer you can not know how your tomorrow would look like. Taking some action and coming with solution seems the most wise to do, is also called survival and I think is human to act that way. Nobody is force to understand foreign people and nobody is force to take the English lessons, you only have the oportunity to take something and offer something back in such times.

I have noticed groups that offer help with shopping, babysitting or dog walking for those in need. Hello :) I just found your videos a couple of days ago and was worried how you deal with this situation. It is very sad to hear, that you do not get enough information, and I already know this is happening. My boyfriend came here with the Erasmus program from Turkey. I know exactly what kind of misinformation he gets to, earlier than the important stuff.
According to how our government reacted so far (and I am watching it continuously), I know we can trust them to make the best decisions to keep everyone safe. No matter where are people from and why they stay here. In my opinion, it's better to avoid reading from unofficial sources. Reporters here are story hunters, biased, and mostly not very bright either. It's probably coming from some kind of pressure from above, but I think they should take the job more responsibly anyway. Enough about that :D
The only media I'm following releases short information every time something new happens inside an already existing article about the pandemic. They always include the source too, so it's a good place to gather the most important official messages. It's called "Český rozhlas" (Czech Radio). Here's the link they use for the online reports: irozhl.as/9p1 - it's always the newest article with a section in the middle called "Online reportáž" where they add new information (newest on top). Using Google to translate the page may give you an idea of what is happening now. I don't say the translation is 100%, but usable.
Hopefully, this helps a little to keep you informed without being dependent on someone else every single step of the way. But always, like someone already mentioned, we are here to listen and answer. I wish you the best!

Oh, I completely forgot about the explosion in Prague. At that time I didn't even know it happened. And I was living literally a hundred meters from the place. Lol. Anyway, I completely agree with your view on being a foreigner in a crisis. Some years back I lived in Paris when the Charlie Hebdo attack happened. I didn't know anything. I didn't speak the language, I couldn't understand the soldiers who were stopping me on the street, I couldn't read anything in French in the papers, I didn't understand what the security guys in the supermarket were telling me when I waltzed in with my backpack, I didn't understand what the driver of the bus was yelling at me when I got in, etc. It was a horrible month for me :)
But this pandemic is a different level especially if your are a foreigner.
I have a bad hearing so I need to look at people's mouth to fully hear what they're saying and now with all the face masks... well, today I felt like a foreigner in a foreign country again :)

Your English is excellent ;). I can imagine you had a horrible experience in Paris at that time! Chaos is scary, even in one's own language. Thank you for your comment and good luck to you!

Did I just watch a 13 minute long ad?🤣 Keep up the good work!
PS. Is that an Audi S series SUV you're in?

Not an ad, just an attempt to connect people who want a service with those who offer it.

@@DreamPrague But isn't that the definition of an ad? I don't have a problem with it. Not confronting you or anything. It's nice that you're offering people a way to entertain themselves and talk to others in this miserable situation.

Dobrý den, ráda vás poslouchám a váš nápad mi přijde úžasný!!
    Me jméno je Markéta Lučanová.
Držím palce jak Vám tak i dalším! A ještě poslední info v nouzi v cizí zemi se můžete obrátit na IOM cz.

I don't live in CR since 2005, but if there's anything I could help you with, give me a shout. For now, I can at least share your video with my peers in Czech, you never know, someone might be looking for an English teacher.

Já tomu říkám "doba associální" :-) Prostě běžný sociální distanc 2-3 ft zvetším na minimálně 5-6 ft. A místo osobního setkání telefon.
My jsme docela silně xenofobní národ.
