Very nicely done. Thanks for the information.
I would also recommend that new hunters listen to videos of POTA activations by Thomas, K4SWL. Thomas will focus the camera on his log so you can real-time crosscheck your copy against his. Initially, the activator / hunter exchange was too fast for me to copy, but then I began to pick out the key words as you describe in your videos. Before long, I was able to copy the entire exchange which gave me confidence to get on the air as a hunter and eventually an activator.
Yes! Great comment. Also look at Aaron W4ARB's videos too!
Yeah been watching Thomas's videos for years, love his stuff.
Cool I just got my CW keyer yesterday while I study to take my ham exam.
Awesome!
Great presentation. Funny story about learning CW. I got a baptism under fire at our club doing CW contesting. At one point early on, I asked my Elmer why everyone was sending "X". He had no idea what I was talking about, until he realized I was talking about them sending "T U" for thank you, just run together.
Sometimes diving into the deep end is the best way to learn.
Now this is what I have been looking for ! Words that get you started, thanks Kyle.
Yes!
So when the excavator came back at the end, it seems like he thinks your name is MO 😂
Hecka appreciate your laying it out plainly and in a way that is easy to understand ♡♡♡
This is extremely helpful :)
Right on target! I have been wanting to give POTA a try.
Perfect! Go git em!
100% agree on all of these. Good video man! Way better than the one I did. POTA hunting and SOTA chasing is probably the easiest way for new CW operators to get on the air.
Part 2 coming out soon because of all the comments.
@@AA0Z Awesome!
Nice job Kyle on the cw series. You might want to add the greetings most send GM, GA, and GE. I found when I was learning to copy faster code speeds that if I stumbled decoding on something early in the message I might just miss it all because I fell behind. So if you learn all the general protocol you’re well on your way. I also found that watching POTA activation UA-cam videos is a great way to practice copying all kinds of fists and speeds. Many thanks to all that post such videos! Especially those that I made a contact with.
Yes. I'm going to do a part 2 of this series. That will be in there!
BK does not mean ''back to you' it means 'break' (pause in transmission). If sent as B K this means b = 'more follow' k = 'over' Glyn G4CFS (Ex Pro OP)
Great info Kyle! I've jotted these down for future reference... once I start on my path to learning CW (hopefully soon than later). 73!
You got this. 15 mins of practice a day is key!
@@AA0Z That’s all after I get my Extra. Back working on that now, hopefully. 73!
Thank you for this. I'm brushing up on my CW and really enjoying POTA. This video was helpful in getting the exchange format in my head. I've been using mostly SSB and FT8 but will soon add CW to the mix!
Awesome. Glad I could help
Great video for a CW newbie. I just started my CW journey about 3 weeks ago with the Long Island CW Club, and my primary goal is becoming proficient with field ops like POTA using CW. This was very helpful, and the fact that I could recognize several of the characters as you keyed them was very cool. Great format for the video.
Welcome aboard! Thanks for the view!
The BK prosign at the beginning/end of a transmission is a bit confusing to me. I'll try to adapt, though. I would expect the sending station to end a transmission with KN (over to specific station), then the other station responding with RR to start.
I'm an occasional CW operator, mainly Field Day. KN, is what I learned as a novice licensee.
Funny story; during one FD I worked a station that sent "3A DE". It took a couple minutes to realize he was sending "Delaware". At first I was thinking "FROM WHERE?"

Awesome Kyle! Thanks! 73
Excellent video! Thanks Kyle. Just started watching your CW Roundtable videos - just what I needed.

Perfect. Welcome to the cw club!
Excellent. Tnx. Should point out however that it's a bit controversial with regard to BK. Some believe it is not a Prosign. Others say that it should be a Prosign. Some of the logic behind not sending as a prosign is that if for any reason (QSB; QRM etc) and the B gets missed you just sent the Prosign SK which is end of contact.
Yeah, I got some feedback on it.
Love it, Thanks!
Part 2 coming soon.
I would also add "call ?", as the activator did not give his park number. not all hunters use the spot page. Thx for the vid. B.
My mistake . "park?" or "park nr?"
My mistake. Meant "park ?" or "park nr?"
Add 72 per QRP station sign off
Thanks Kyle extremely helpful. I think I have 4 cw POTA contacts in the log. I’m learning at a pace slower than a turtle. 73
Awesome! Keep at it!
Great video Kyle. Does the park number come in to the standard exchange at all or is that a preference for the activator? I know it is not needed and in some cases like FT8, it is not possible due to a character limitation.
For a new operator I would not worry about the park number. When you submit your log when logs match up for activators you will get the park to park credit.
AS Procyon for standby
Good job Kyle!

Thanks
Share that QRP stations often use 72
Question are we permitted to transmit code on the air without the 5 words or the 13 words qualification?
Of course. This was just a suggestion of words you SHOULD know.
please QRS next time.
QRS is in the next activator video.
MO는 무슨 뜻입니까?
QRS
On the list
Please copy accounts for 2 of them.

Next video
Great start I would add AGN.

Great idea. I'm going to record a part 2 soon. AGN will make an appearance.
