Good question. My thoughts would be something in the middle; jinxing the concept of DADA teaching. So you take in mind everything that you think of when you think about DADA teaching, and you take in mind Hogwarts, and then lay the jinx on that. And then it hangs around in the castle like energetic cobwebs
Not sure if you’ve done a video on it but what about a “what if Dumbledore did NOT hire Lockhart?” Would it affect the story much? Overconfidence, arrogance etc? Would it affect how he treats his friends? Would he react differently to becoming a triwizard champion?
Or what if there was no curse on the DADA job and whoever had it kept it? There would be no introduction to Quirrell, Lockhart or Lupin, Voldemort's return would be drastically different without using Barty Jr and Umbridge would never get hired.
great vid definitely gave me some different insights into certain moments of the book and how they play a bigger role on the series as a whole....hope the family's doin well
Dumbledore reminds me if high school physics teacher. I didn’t learn a lot of physics, but i learned a lot of wisdom and life lessons. He was a great guy and cared about the students, listened to our concerns and gave good advice. I mark it as the second most important class i took in school after Band, In which i learned the importance of hard work and practice.
@@dontmisunderstand6041 why would that be alarming? Our school didn’t have giant spiders or evil wizards breaking in. There was no danger to put us in. I was referring to teaching style, where Dumbledore doesn’t teach Harry spells, but life lessons.
@@dontmisunderstand6041 The only thing lower than my need to waste eight hours a day in a public school was my desire to waste eight hours a day there. The only classes that required effort were band and physics. And I only took physics because school policy my senior year was no more than two study halls. Every year before and after my year they allowed seniors who had less than full class load to leave after their last class. Band was the only class I cared about and that I actually had to work at to do well. I was mentally and emotionally done with school by the end of 8th grade. The only reason i didn't drop out was on threat from parents if I tried they would ship me to military school. The school refused to let me join the program where i could leave school early every day to work or to transfer to the county vocational school. Anyone they deemed above average they wanted to put on the college prep track. So I positioned myself to be able to graduate early, but my parents wouldn't pay for me to take two classes over the summer so i could be done a year early. So i needed two classes my senior year, Government and College Prep English. But no, my school had to twist the knife one more time. The only thing in my life that was a bigger waste of time was college. My advice to anyone still in school: pursue a trade. It pays better, gives you more freedom, less debt, and more satisfaction with your work. A plumber has the satisfaction of knowing their work is important. A lineman is a hero every time the power goes out. A welder can do anything from help build a bridge to a battleship. Your average sys admin gets berated and belittled all day. A software engineer spends his whole day mad that his program won't compile. The best part about learning a trade is most of them can't be automated in any serious way. Become a machinist and you'll be the one to fix the cooling system that keeps Chat GPT running while the software engineers freak out. Rant over. 25 years later and the rank stupidity of the public education system still gets my hackles up. Also, we worked REALLY hard in band. There were about 60 of us and we competed in the top tier against bands with 200+ kids in it. We even managed to take top prize at a couple of competitions my senior year.
You guys are really good. I've been subscribed for a while now, and I am always impressed by your deep dives. This one is special though. This may not be as complex or comprehensive as, say, "Dumbledoor's Big Plan" - which I loved, just sayin' - but it is a mature, insightful analysis of the subject. I stand [actually, sit] in awe of your brainpower and ability to expose deeper meanings into the story and in some cases, extend my understanding not only of the Potterverse, but of the morals of the story and how they apply to the "real" world. Applause! NO!!! Standing OVATION!!!
It's funny how Dumbledore, the greatest wizard of the era, teaches Harry life lessons instead of actual magic. But because Harry is taught these things, it allows Harry to beat Voldemort instead of becoming Voldemort.
13:06: He doesn't show mercy. Like at all. The fate of whom to recieve the Dementors kiss is worse than death. He just doesn't want the two best friends of his father to become murderers.
This kinda reminds me of how Witches get thought on the Discworld. They do it, and then they learn how. Harry does things, then learns why he should've done that. Yous should do a video on the Discworld, trust me on that.
2:44 ooooooh so that's why you have a mustache all of a sudden. I hadn't watched this video yet, but I've watched some of your more recent ones and I wondered when the mustache happened. Thanks J!
Day 6 of asking can you do a video where the Potters survived? The scenario I'll make up is when Voldemort breaks in, Instead of killing James, he tortures and used the paralyzing spell on him and makes him pass out and plans to finish him off later when Harry is dead because as Dumbledore said, he likes waiting for his enemies to beg for death before killing them. Upstairs with Lily, the same thing basically happens except Lily misses the curse and falls on the ground. Harry still gets the love protection and Voldemort still loses his body because Lily was prepared to sacrifice herself for Harry. We saw this in Deathly Hallows when Harry's protection from sacrificing himself stopped Voldemort from torturing Neville when he stood up, Even though Harry didn't die.
Here is the thing about every single novel, every single movie, every single religious text: Every single one of them gives us just snapshots. I have a photograph of my grandfather, his four brothers and at least six dogs hanging out on one of the five family farms surrounding a tailgate of a 1941 pickup. What does that show? A whole heck of a lot. But what it shows me is that they are taking their afternoon break from back-breaking work and having a cup of coffee. 15 minutes after this picture, they were back at work in the field of one of the brothers. In the Harry Potter series, we only get one glimpse of a substitute teacher, and that is Professor Snape taking the Defense of Dark Arts class for one hour of one day. Now, I don’t know about the rest of you, but when I was in the U.S. compulsory K-12 school system, my normal teacher would be out about 6-8 times a year (sick, conference, continuing education, etc.). I had the principal of the school fill in several times. Also, in junior (7-9) and senior high (10-12), our administrators would pick up extracurricular duties, like coaching sports, drama, creative writing (yes, that was a thing), etc. Since we only get a snapshot, maybe, just maybe, Headmaster Dumbledore took on some other optional classes. (Do you really think that the boarding school wouldn’t offer anything except between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.?) According to the movies, Professor Flitwick taught choir (No one ever went to choir practice.). What else could they teach outside of the required curriculum? Chess? The Art of Constructing Magical Buildings? Dressing like a Muggle? Cooking? Knitting? Alchemy?
You do realize Dumbledore was headmaster. He wasn't exactly a "teacher" at the time. The main thing Dumbledore taught Harry was about Voldemort. The whole "know thy enemy" thing. And yes, Dumbledore made it out for Harry to get to Quirrel. And Dumbledore hired Lockhart because he knew Lockhart was a fraud, and I honestly think he was counting on the curse on the position. As for the POA, the only reason Lupin became dangerous is because he didn't take his potion due to seeing Sirius pulling Ron and Peter Pettigrew under the womping willow and heads to the shrieking shack.
My theory is that the trials were there for Harry to learn, and to keep Voldemort preoccupied. Dumbledore new if Voldemort only saw the mirror, he would eventually figure it out. By putting all that stuff before the mirror, logic would dictate that the stone was there(physically) at the end, similar to Voldemort's locket horcrux. Dumbledore new how Voldemort operated even back then, and so the obstacles in a way is just a little "theater" to satisfy the Voldemort way of thinking on how to protect a very important magical item.
Your explanation is awesome.👍👍it's dumbledore who taught harry all the morals of humanity through practical lessons of life which elevated harry to a selfless pure supreme entity.
my biggest problem is Dumbledore may have taught Harry about the horcruxes and showed him enough so that he could discover WHERE they are, but he really didn't teach Harry how to actually OBTAIN them. I mean look at the 2 horcruxes Dumbledore got, the ring which basically killed him and the locket (he didn't know it was fake) which Harry didn't actually do anything for. remember it was Dumbledore who found the entrance to the cave, it was Dumbledore who found the boat (he even straight up tells Harry the only reason they can both get in is because Harry is weak) and it was Dumbledore who fought off the inferi when Harry couldn't, even AFTER drinking the potion and being basically dead already. It seems to me that Harry was just really lucky that the only horcruxes he needed to find weren't really defended by anything. imagine if hypothetically Dumbledore wasn't with Harry when looking for the locket, I truly believe Harry and his friends would not have made it out of the cave alive, heck they probably wouldn't even find out how to enter in the first place, they simply didn't have the magical ability or know how to do it.
Here's an alternative theory do you think Dumbledore used a time turner to ensure he influenced Harry down the right path at least till the time of his death. Could explain how Dumbledore knows exactly what is about to happen.
@@coolnerdlll6053 yeah I would imagine Dumbledore would be well aware of the risks involved. But imagine an outcome where Harry instead joined the dark lord would he not want to prevent this outcome instead. Or rather an outcome where in the chamber of secrets Tom was successful in returning to life. Many scenarios could easily influence him to use this method.
What about doing a video on how spells are created. You made a good point mentioning Snape’s spell and it just took me back to him yelling at Harry, “You try to use my own spell against me?!” I think a video on how spells are created would be cool…
Dumbledores lessons weren't specifically academic ones but more so lessons he wouldn't get in any class. Although imo lupin is still by far his best professor.
2:13 The lesson with sectumsempra was to never trust someone 100% because you never know what the other person believes. 6:16 Did you mean one of the quad squad? Since devil's snare was there for Neville if Hermoine had not petrified him.
In one of my Avatar videos, I said that Ummi was the Painted Lady, but later questioned how she could have a face if she was Ummi if Koh had stolen it. However, in the Avatar the Last Airbender comic the Search, a brother and sister search for the Mother of Faces to restore the brother's face, which Koh stole. So he does not have a moth eyes or eyebrows Despite this, the Painted Lady still has her eyes and eyebrows.
Dumbledore is just the Hogwarts spirit animal - a kind of physical embodiment of all four houses... I think that's why he's headmaster, honestly. *it takes a bit of Slytherin to go against the government!
I love how at 14:37 they forgot to fill in the book and chapter. I only noticed it because i had to rewind 3 times because i was listening to it at work lol.
I have a what if for y’all. What if Harry’s boggart didn’t take the form of a dementor? How would he learn the patronising charm then and would he be able to save Sirius in POB? How would that affect the story going forward when Voldemort takes dementors on his side?
I need the brothers to see my theory on the Elder Wand!! Thus I shall post it on every upload until they acknowledge it (attempt number 3) Harry is the only person who was EVER master of the Elder Wand!!! It’s written right in the pages. The wand did nothing - NOTHING!! - to protect any of the other people who wielded it. ONLY Harry, and ONLY after he dies TO the Elder Wand in the forest. The only one who can become Master of Death is the person who truly accepts death. This theme of power by not seeking power is throughout the books. (The stone in the Mirror of Erised could only be retrieved by someone who wanted it but not to use it.) (Love is the most powerful form of magic, but for it to be true love it can never be used for power.) Harry becomes Master of Death by his actions with the Hallows. Harry uses the cloak to go to his death. Harry uses the stone to summon dead ones to lead him to his death. Harry accepts death by way of the Elder Wand. Harry uses all three Hallows to accept his death. The moment he is hit by Avada Kedavra in the forest is the moment he becomes Master of Death; the moment he becomes the FIRST master of the Elder Wand since its creation. Next time the wand is used against him is the first time in its history it refuses to kill. It backfires, and kills Voldemort. Think about it: the great irony of the Wand is the only person who can become Master of it is the person who accepts death by it. No one was ever meant to truly become Master, but Harry does. There’s also something very beautiful about its bloody history being full of people seeking the Wand to use it on others, but Harry seeks the Wand to die to it to save others. Theme work at its finest. As for “proof” that Dumbledore was Master because he repaired Hagrid’s wand with it: no, Dumbledore was uniquely great at magic. He didn’t need a special wand for that to be true. Harry was not uniquely great at magic, but a uniquely great person which led to him being the first Master of the Wand, which granted him uniquely great magic to repair his own wand.
a question. about Peter petigro. unless peter had died before voldemort was "killed" by harry, but if peter was alive when harry "killed" voldemort he wouldn't have died right? because peter is still alive when voldemort and harry are dueling, would Peter's sacrifice of meat let him stay alive?
The magic that witches and wizards use is all about manipulating the material world. The deeper magic comes from the source - love, life, innocence. They aren't sorcerers so it remains a mystery for the most part, though I think Dumbledore understood the concept of knowing what you don't know and appreciated the deeper magic he would never control.
Does stopping Snape from going to the Shrieking Shack count as James saving his life? I know Dumbledore says so, but would Snape have been able to be ok with Voldemort killing James? Maybe. Wormtail tried to kill Harry, but the hand turned on him, so maybe Snape’s cursed life was a part of that. That being owed to a man he hated and feeling responsible for Lily’s death. Big ramble session as I just thought that out.
question: if Quirrell use azada kadvra instead of strangling him, could he have killed him, or would the sacifical sacrifice kicked in because voldemort was possing him?
Wait I was just thinking « how do you think dumbledore came to realize how powerful love is? » and I thought, wouldn’t it be so cool and explain so much if arianna didn’t die by accident, but actually did for Dumbledore what lily did for Harry ? Which would explain how Dumbledore won against the Elder wand, really grindelwald never stood a chance. I would imagine that in the chaos, none of them are too sure what happened, probably dumby and grindy don’t realize dumby is protected maybe even until the final fight, because dumby is such a skilled wizard that he repels most spells himself and so wouldn’t realize that if he didn’t, grindy’s spells would actually just be countered by Arianna’s sacrificial protection. But that would explain how he came to know about this particular spell. What do y’all think ?
I’d love a what I’d long bottom was a part of the crew. Like maybe instead of body binding him in #1 they invite him with to the deep hole, they become besties and then go from there.
I liked that Dumbledore was gradually revealed to a flawed man that used his own mistakes to better guide the following generations instead of enforcing his ideals on them like many other characters in the series tried to do. Which should be standard operating procedure, really.
Harry didn’t know Hagrid was half giant until book 4 but yeah Harry never cared about halfbreeds like normal wizards did being raised by muggles and not being brain washed by normal wizarding society and making his own decisions but Dumbledore did teach him that as he refused to let a wizarding family raise him although that was more due so to the blood protection but an added plus for sure.
You’ll probably cover this, but Dumbledore taught Harry by pushing him to his limits from the start. Like year 1, where they talk about how they think Dumbledore knows everything that goes on in Hogwarts but he allows him to test his mettle knowing bigger things are to come.

I always wondered that how did Voldemort actually "jinx" The DADA post. Like did he put taboo on the name or did he jinx the classroom or something. How does the jinx actually work
Good question.
My thoughts would be something in the middle; jinxing the concept of DADA teaching. So you take in mind everything that you think of when you think about DADA teaching, and you take in mind Hogwarts, and then lay the jinx on that.
And then it hangs around in the castle like energetic cobwebs
@@edopronk1303great concept. Can be possible. But would be great if the brothers could cover it in their video
I like the idea that it was unintentional. Voldemort was so powerful, and had such a strong connection to Hogwarts, that the curse just happened.
Not sure if you’ve done a video on it but what about a “what if Dumbledore did NOT hire Lockhart?” Would it affect the story much? Overconfidence, arrogance etc? Would it affect how he treats his friends? Would he react differently to becoming a triwizard champion?
Oooh, good one! I hope they read it.
That's extremely alarming, for reasons I would hope are obvious.
@@dontmisunderstand6041 why would that be alarming? Our school didn’t have giant spiders or evil wizards breaking in. There was no danger to put us in. I was referring to teaching style, where Dumbledore doesn’t teach Harry spells, but life lessons.
@@Kilthan2050 I meant the whole, band being the most important class you took in school. That's extremely alarming.
Being a great wizard starts with being a good person. Gotcha

Dumbledore was just trying to get Neville some friends and they blasted him. In the distance you hear Hermione "Golden Trio not Golden Quatro!"
I wanna see a video on what if James’ sacrifice saved both Lily and Harry.
One of your best, fellas! :)
13:06: He doesn't show mercy. Like at all. The fate of whom to recieve the Dementors kiss is worse than death. He just doesn't want the two best friends of his father to become murderers.
Spot on. It's for their sake, not Peter's. It's also Sirius's only chance to be free.
Thanks J!
“Signaturer spell” or “Signaturest spell” 😂

Hey brother! Love your content 😊😊😊😊
This all feels like a rehashing of the series about Dumbledore’s secret plans for Harry.
That's what I thought. I can't remember the details of that beyond letting Harry face the tasks and hiring Lockhart, though.
14:35 I love the Harry Potter Book named "BOOK", and its chapter numbered " ", truly the defining moment of the series ;)
Anyway good video as always!

Am I the only one who says “These socks are amazing!” to themself after each of J’s videos?
Cooking? Knitting? Alchemy?
The fine art of selecting the best Muggle sweets?
You do realize Dumbledore was headmaster. He wasn't exactly a "teacher" at the time. The main thing Dumbledore taught Harry was about Voldemort. The whole "know thy enemy" thing. And yes, Dumbledore made it out for Harry to get to Quirrel. And Dumbledore hired Lockhart because he knew Lockhart was a fraud, and I honestly think he was counting on the curse on the position. As for the POA, the only reason Lupin became dangerous is because he didn't take his potion due to seeing Sirius pulling Ron and Peter Pettigrew under the womping willow and heads to the shrieking shack.
so, pretty much a recap of dumbldore's big plan? XD
I have a theory that Dumbledore is low-key the greatest legilemens alive. Would love to hear your take on this theory. Just something to think about
Your explanation is awesome.👍👍it's dumbledore who taught harry all the morals of humanity through practical lessons of life which elevated harry to a selfless pure supreme entity.
my biggest problem is Dumbledore may have taught Harry about the horcruxes and showed him enough so that he could discover WHERE they are, but he really didn't teach Harry how to actually OBTAIN them.
Is no one going to talk about the moustache part? Guys we have to make sure he has to grow a moustache forever
Good luck with the fundraiser! Ty again for the content.
Here's an alternative theory do you think Dumbledore used a time turner to ensure he influenced Harry down the right path at least till the time of his death. Could explain how Dumbledore knows exactly what is about to happen.
I think he'd consider that cheating.
@@coolnerdlll6053 while he may think that he likely would also think losing isn't an option
@@namronstryker9221Using the time turner is also way too easy to screw up.

I love you guys with all my heart! ❤️
2:13 The lesson with sectumsempra was to never trust someone 100% because you never know what the other person believes. 6:16 Did you mean one of the quad squad? Since devil's snare was there for Neville if Hermoine had not petrified him.

Thus I shall post it on every upload until they acknowledge it (attempt number 3)
Harry is the only person who was EVER master of the Elder Wand!!!
(The stone in the Mirror of Erised could only be retrieved by someone who wanted it but not to use it.)
(Love is the most powerful form of magic, but for it to be true love it can never be used for power.)
Harry becomes Master of Death by his actions with the Hallows.
What if serious was evil
I agree with Harry, Dumbledore was the best.
What-If Dumbledore Hired Voldemort as the Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor against His Own Better Judgment?
In the books he also says I am the Chosen One for convince Slughorn, it wasn't just movie
Not hating or anything, but you forgot to cite the quote at 14:42. Thank you for all your great content.
I do believe the Devils snare was meant to Neville, but not WITH Harry, but as a possible replacement because of the prophecy.
Harry didn’t know Hagrid was half giant until book 4 but yeah Harry never cared about halfbreeds like normal wizards did being raised by muggles and not being brain washed by normal wizarding society and making his own decisions but Dumbledore did teach him that as he refused to let a wizarding family raise him although that was more due so to the blood protection but an added plus for sure.
where do you find the backgrounds for those text readings?
Wth is expelliarnus? 2:00
Hihi I was checking the comments for this exactly😅
It's not the curriculum, it's the life lessons which make a good teacher. It's something you will go on basing your whole ideology of life.
You’ll probably cover this, but Dumbledore taught Harry by pushing him to his limits from the start. Like year 1, where they talk about how they think Dumbledore knows everything that goes on in Hogwarts but he allows him to test his mettle knowing bigger things are to come.
