My Mom just got one, and I'm currently using it as a conventional walkman, only it's hooked up to computer speakers, so I can listen to old tapes that Mom recorded for the older children my older sisters, and brothers of her reading bible stories, and singing songs! Soon, I'm going to work on how to convert these old memories to MP3!

I bought one of these - It 'chewed up' the first tape I put in it, thereby destroying the recording I was hoping to preserve digitally. If you value your recordings, I would advise avoiding the use of these - Far too risky!
Hi dear Bros, I'm sorry to hear that, because this thing might happen, but here is a tip I strongly recommend to apply with old tape cassettes of any kind (video and audio). Since the film is very old, might get dry and stick, so I advise reversing the whole cassette from the end to the beginning (or vice versa) at least once or twice to make it looser and avoid the stickiness. Keep in mind that there might be a different issue, and that is when the tape reaches the end, it will detach because the film's attachment got weaker, but this is something that didn't occur too many times. Eventually, analog items are riskier compared to digital items and require to deal with them carefully plus some luck as well. Hello again! I received my machine yesterday and I tried it now once and yes, it works well! :P The only thing that I can complain is the headphones :D I mean, they're pretty much rubbish! :D Course it's not a problem to me since I have my own (better ones!), but they were actually the only "minus" thing in the whole case! I have a Mac computer. I have the Audacity software programme as well as Wavepad but I cannot get a level when using the walkman. Can you advise please.

As long as audacity supports Mac computers, I guess it would be best co check the FAQ section on their website (there probably is one). Also I advise to contect the Audacity support team and see if they can offer a solution to your question. None the less, you can try a different software that propbaly will work well on Mac computers - the tape cassette should work with various programs (used it with my editing software once, PowerDirector). for anyone here looking to convert your tapes, just buy a tape deck for like 30-40 dollars off ebay and hook it up to your pc and record from that, i mean this product like works, but it wont give actual high quality playback

I recently got out of the attic a sony walkman which I used to use back in the 80s. I had thought of buying an adapter for it then I checked on the internet to discover to my delight that walkmans still exist and able to use USB as converting my audio cassettes into digital format. this is a portable/ converter, but not a walkman. Only sony has the right to call it that officially. Obviously, an 80’s walkman still is night and day with this new crap
I just tried mine today feeding into Audacity using the USB port [later models may have the big flat USB outlet] however when recording the volume level on Audacity was so low, the line was hardly rippling even with the input volume on highest position, will probably have to use the phone jack into the mike input as I have been doing with a big Cassette deck.
Hey dear john brown! Indeed, the volume level is determined via the 3.5mm cable/jack and not via the USB port/cable, which is intended to power the tape cassette player. I wish the USB could be the relevant cable for this purpose, but unfortunately you're converting ANALOG date to Digital data, thus the need for the 3.5 audio cable. I have got one from a friend he is not techy, very good tip to rewind the old tapes before playing, I them just recorded a 46 year old tape no problem, Audacity is easy to use, I think it is ok quality but it does have some wow and flutter issues , drive stability etc. which would make classical piano violin solos etc. are bit hard to listen too, i also have a good old double cassette player far superior hifi sound and I plan to get a two phono to Usb cable which i will connect to my pc and use audacity to record Classical music but for pop, rock, etc it is fine and if your not into high quality like vinyl it is a good cheap product that works

In my case, I needed a simple audio conversion, and the rest of the magic was done with an audio editing software post the conversion. I think that for basic audio conversions, these features are less relevant, but I believe they are important and it's good to have them. I want to ask if we can get a short tutorial of how to setup walkman using batteries, in my walkman after entering battery it doesn't play songs and which kind of power adapter to use and if that charges the walkman as given in the manual, there is less clarity on that. I have a question cause I realized I may have fucked up. So, I few weeks ago I bought this product looking for a walkman; not having realized it said “cassette converter” I ordered it while on vacation and I’m still currently in vacation so I haven’t been able to test it out. The CD that came with the walkman is so small - 2" or so and it does not fit in my regular disc drive on the PC which is larger and automatic feed. Is there a way I can still convert cassette to an audio file without buying an expensive software program for my PC?

ALIEXPRESS has some of the WORST customer reviews I've ever seen on line!! You're lucky the product worked so well, but AliExpress has HUNDREDS of BAD reviews from customers complaining of terrible quality, not receiving merchandise, etc etc. I'm happy you were the exception. Just bought one of these just to use as a cheap player while on a work trip. As my older cheap player has became faulty. Hopefully this one last a bit longer and has better build quality.

I am not sure if it is related to how the original tape was recorded, the cable your are using or how you choose to save the file on your computer, but believe this is possible. Hi there. I have a question for you. I recently purchased a USB audio cassette converter myself. I'm trying to insert some of my audio cassettes to digital, but for some reason, I get varying speeds whenever I do that. I have perfect pitch, musically speaking, and I can always tell when the pitch of the recording goes up and down. I inserted batteries as a backup. And I'm using Audacity to get things transferred. Do you know why my cassette player is playing at varying speeds when I'm transferring?
Hey dear Tristan Gardner ! I am familiar with this issue. Since these cassettes are very old, the film might be sticky/dry and affects the speed. I would rewind the tapes from start to ending to loosen the film and then play the tape. Let me know if it improves this issue, otherwise, I would consider trying a different tape to see if there's any change. I've bought up several different models of the current portable cassette players and none of them, none, come even close to the vintage Walkmans I have. It blows my mind that the Sony WM-F1 I have, which is like 30 years old, sounds better than this thing. I just wish someone would try to produce something of quality, it's bad enough everyone thinks cassettes are the worst way to listen to music.

Thank you very much for your input, I agree that Sony used to manufacture excellent Walkmans ;-) I understand what you're saying, but because cassette tape players aren't manufactured anymore, mostly because of it's inferior sound quality, there's no motivation for manufactures to put much effort in manufacturing a quality tape cassette player / Walkman these days. The new one's mostly are intended to convert the old tape cassettes, and then you can edit the audio if you have the knowledge to do that (It wont improve the audio though, but you can do all sorts of manipulations over the files). I don't understand how this works, so this walk man can covert files that u have on your computer to the tape and then be able to listen to your tape? or are you only able to transfer audio from the tapes to the computer?

These cassette converters cost a lot of money and my best choice for doing this is audacity.com and then you transfer all your music into a CD DISK. How's that for avoiding high costs for converters.?

I would have liked to hear the playback from his Jackson tape in the program he used. Not sure why he didn't include it? I have this machine and it makes a loud background noise which was discussed in another video. The problem was solved to a great extent in that subsequent video.

Hi dear friend, This is indeed not a complicated task at all, you get a software that will allow you to save the audio from the cassette player as a file (wave, mp3, etc) or you can use a different software like I did (cause I am used to it...). It will allow you to do exactly what you mentioned about (play the file from the player >>> save it on the computer while it is playing), so what I recommend you to do is jump into the water and try that. for this price it is worth the try, and you will learn in no time how to use it. Won't work with my Macbook Pro - Mac seems to recognize the device, but audacity gives - 9997 error, "invalid sample rate" - regardless of the sample rate I set.

Use audacity and set the volume output to 5 on your boombox or tape deck, not higher as you will get a very loud audio track. Use 80 as Windows Volume. You will also need an ADS Tech Instant Music USB audio capture device, these connect by USB and Jack to 2x RCA cables, The Red/White cables go into the OUTPUT connector on the ADS Instant Music Audio device and the Jack goes to the Boombox. Set the Volume on your boombox to 5, and Windows 7/10 to 80 thats it.

I have one of these and it works well with good quality as a Walkman. I use a MacBook Air with a Mac cd recorder/player. you cannot insert the mini disk into this machine as it is all enclosed. Any ideas? I would like to load the software

This specific device won't allow you to copy digital songs at all, but if you manage to play them and record them into analog files then you will be able to play them on this tape cassette player. You need a cassette deck and a 3.5 mm to rca cable for that. 1. Plug in your USB to a PC/laptop. 2. Then plug in the 3.5mm to RCA cable from your device to the RCA input of your cassette deck. 3. Put a blank tape in. 4. Press record and play at the same time on your deck. 5. Play the USB audio from your device. Done.

When was the last time you used a tape audio cassette? most people I know don't do it often, and probably won't do it ever again. 2. It takes space, while digitized file doesn't. 3. You can play the audio on your smartphone/computer etc. 4. Digital file doesn't get ruined. 5. You can re-master the audio file and play with it once it's digitized. 6. You can find old cassettes content in better audio quality these days And so on and on... I could think of at least several more reasons... At least you sorted this issue before I managed to reply, but once again - here's my previous reply to you: Indeed, the volume level is determined via the 3.5mm cable/jack and not via the USB port/cable, which is intended to power the tape cassette player. I wish the USB could be the relevant cable for this purpose, but unfortunately you're converting ANALOG date to Digital data, thus the need for the 3.5 audio cable. This reminds me, what Thrash bands even release cassettes anymore? Haven't seen Tankard or even Kreator do that for a while
You might not want to buy these. These might eat your precious tapes.
My Mom just got one, and I'm currently using it as a conventional walkman, only it's hooked up to computer speakers, so I can listen to old tapes that Mom recorded for the older children my older sisters, and brothers of her reading bible stories, and singing songs! Soon, I'm going to work on how to convert these old memories to MP3!

I bought one of these - It 'chewed up' the first tape I put in it, thereby destroying the recording I was hoping to preserve digitally. If you value your recordings, I would advise avoiding the use of these - Far too risky!

I'm sorry to hear that, because this thing might happen, but here is a tip I strongly recommend to apply with old tape cassettes of any kind (video and audio).
Since the film is very old, might get dry and stick, so I advise reversing the whole cassette from the end to the beginning (or vice versa) at least once or twice to make it looser and avoid the stickiness.
Keep in mind that there might be a different issue, and that is when the tape reaches the end, it will detach because the film's attachment got weaker, but this is something that didn't occur too many times.
Eventually, analog items are riskier compared to digital items and require to deal with them carefully plus some luck as well.

Hello again! I received my machine yesterday and I tried it now once and yes, it works well! :P The only thing that I can complain is the headphones :D I mean, they're pretty much rubbish! :D Course it's not a problem to me since I have my own (better ones!), but they were actually the only "minus" thing in the whole case! So yeah, the product kicks! ;)

The answer is YES, you can use this cassette tape with Windows 10.
The software that comes with it WILL WORK PERFECTLY with windows 10 - I think I mentioned that it works, but I personally chose to use it with a software that I use to edit my videos and supports audio files (Power Directer / Audio Director).

I have a Mac computer. I have the Audacity software programme as well as Wavepad but I cannot get a level when using the walkman. Can you advise please.

Unfortunately I didn't use this tape cassette or the Audacity software with MAC computers.
As long as audacity supports Mac computers, I guess it would be best co check the FAQ section on their website (there probably is one).
Also I advise to contect the Audacity support team and see if they can offer a solution to your question.
None the less, you can try a different software that propbaly will work well on Mac computers - the tape cassette should work with various programs (used it with my editing software once, PowerDirector).
Let me know how was your progress.

This specific device does not have a "recording" feature, so in this specific case the answer will be no.
I suggest you find a similar device that allows that, or connect an old tape recorder to your computer, since it is possible.

Good thing you mentioned that, so let me emphasize it:
The USB gives power to the tape player.
The computer wont recognize it, so there's no point in trying to do so.
The audio you capture is via the headphones output (3.5mm).
I advise you to watch the video once again if needed, if its still not clear - let me know and I will try to find a solution to that.

for anyone here looking to convert your tapes, just buy a tape deck for like 30-40 dollars off ebay and hook it up to your pc and record from that, i mean this product like works, but it wont give actual high quality playback

I recently got out of the attic a sony walkman which I used to use back in the 80s. I had thought of buying an adapter for it then I checked on the internet to discover to my delight that walkmans still exist and able to use USB as converting my audio cassettes into digital format. this is a portable/ converter, but not a walkman. Only sony has the right to call it that officially. Obviously, an 80’s walkman still is night and day with this new crap
I just tried mine today feeding into Audacity using the USB port [later models may have the big flat USB outlet] however when recording the volume level on Audacity was so low, the line was hardly rippling even with the input volume on highest position, will probably have to use the phone jack into the mike input as I have been doing with a big Cassette deck.

Indeed, the volume level is determined via the 3.5mm cable/jack and not via the USB port/cable, which is intended to power the tape cassette player.
I wish the USB could be the relevant cable for this purpose, but unfortunately you're converting ANALOG date to Digital data, thus the need for the 3.5 audio cable.

does the headphone sound good?
I have got one from a friend he is not techy, very good tip to rewind the old tapes before playing, I them just recorded a 46 year old tape no problem, Audacity is easy to use, I think it is ok quality but it does have some wow and flutter issues , drive stability etc. which would make classical piano violin solos etc. are bit hard to listen too, i also have a good old double cassette player far superior hifi sound and I plan to get a two phono to Usb cable which i will connect to my pc and use audacity to record Classical music but for pop, rock, etc it is fine and if your not into high quality like vinyl it is a good cheap product that works

The tape player you show does not support either Dolby B or Dolby C or Type 2 tape, ie Chrome tape

Thank you very much for your input, I am not that familiar with the differences of Dolby versions not Type 2 tapes, so I will take your word for that.
In my case, I needed a simple audio conversion, and the rest of the magic was done with an audio editing software post the conversion. I think that for basic audio conversions, these features are less relevant, but I believe they are important and it's good to have them.
Please note you posted several comments one right after the other, so UA-cam automatically filters them from the published comments, so I suggest in the future to edit the comment you posted and add more info if relevant.
Once again - thanks for the information, I'm sure others will keep that in mind when considering purchase this audio tape cassette.

I want to ask if we can get a short tutorial of how to setup walkman using batteries, in my walkman after entering battery it doesn't play songs and which kind of power adapter to use and if that charges the walkman as given in the manual, there is less clarity on that. I have a question cause I realized I may have fucked up.
So, I few weeks ago I bought this product looking for a walkman; not having realized it said “cassette converter”
I ordered it while on vacation and I’m still currently in vacation so I haven’t been able to test it out.

The CD that came with the walkman is so small - 2" or so and it does not fit in my regular disc drive on the PC which is larger and automatic feed. Is there a way I can still convert cassette to an audio file without buying an expensive software program for my PC?

ALIEXPRESS has some of the WORST customer reviews I've ever seen on line!! You're lucky the product worked so well, but AliExpress has HUNDREDS of BAD reviews from customers complaining of terrible quality, not receiving merchandise, etc etc. I'm happy you were the exception. Just bought one of these just to use as a cheap player while on a work trip. As my older cheap player has became faulty. Hopefully this one last a bit longer and has better build quality.

Progress is inevitable - there are better alternatives compared to cassette tapes these days.
If you prefer to use it - this is a different story.
The last 2 years were very good to cassette tapes, thanks to retro trends (Guardians of the Galaxy movies etc), but except the nostalgic emotions, there's no real advantage to cassette tapes over other media types/media players.

- Check the problem is not with a specific cassette.
- Try plugging it to different power sources (USB / Batteries / Other batteries / Power adapter).

This is a very good question - From what I recall, this device does not play in stereo.
I plugged it with the 3.5mm cable, and the recording did not seem like stereo... I am not sure if it is related to how the original tape was recorded, the cable your are using or how you choose to save the file on your computer, but believe this is possible.

I have a question for you. I recently purchased a USB audio cassette converter myself. I'm trying to insert some of my audio cassettes to digital, but for some reason, I get varying speeds whenever I do that. I have perfect pitch, musically speaking, and I can always tell when the pitch of the recording goes up and down. I inserted batteries as a backup. And I'm using Audacity to get things transferred. Do you know why my cassette player is playing at varying speeds when I'm transferring?

I am familiar with this issue.
Since these cassettes are very old, the film might be sticky/dry and affects the speed.
I would rewind the tapes from start to ending to loosen the film and then play the tape.
Let me know if it improves this issue, otherwise, I would consider trying a different tape to see if there's any change.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I would guess that if you're asking those questions - you were born after the 80's...? I understand that today not everyone might be familiar with this device, which was very popular until the early 90's, and today might look like an extinct ordinary for most people. So if you want to learn more about it, I think it would be best to search "audio tape cassette player" on UA-cam and find more videos that will explain about the device generally.

I've bought up several different models of the current portable cassette players and none of them, none, come even close to the vintage Walkmans I have. It blows my mind that the Sony WM-F1 I have, which is like 30 years old, sounds better than this thing.
I just wish someone would try to produce something of quality, it's bad enough everyone thinks cassettes are the worst way to listen to music.

I understand what you're saying, but because cassette tape players aren't manufactured anymore, mostly because of it's inferior sound quality, there's no motivation for manufactures to put much effort in manufacturing a quality tape cassette player / Walkman these days.
The new one's mostly are intended to convert the old tape cassettes, and then you can edit the audio if you have the knowledge to do that (It wont improve the audio though, but you can do all sorts of manipulations over the files).

I don't understand how this works, so this walk man can covert files that u have on your computer to the tape and then be able to listen to your tape?
or
are you only able to transfer audio from the tapes to the computer?
can u put in a blank tape and then put files from your computer onto the blank tape?

The walkman can do the following:
1. Convert tape cassettes from the walkman to computer - you cannot record on this specific tape in any sort of way.
2. Play music from the walkman itself - you can listen to it using headphones, speakers etc.

These cassette converters cost a lot of money and my best choice for doing this is audacity.com and then you transfer all your music into a CD DISK.
How's that for avoiding high costs for converters.?
I have a question, does this cassette player eat up cassettes or mess them up in any way?

So in order to use it You need to use the disc? What ir My laptop has no cd entrance, new laptop models does not come with cd player

You are using this tape cassette player with a cassette and not with a disc.
You plug it using a 3.5mm line-in cable - most computers have that, and probably yours too.

I would have liked to hear the playback from his Jackson tape in the program he used. Not sure why he didn't include it? I have this machine and it makes a loud background noise which was discussed in another video. The problem was solved to a great extent in that subsequent video.

I have a casette of myself playing the piano. I don't know which settings to use . I love your explanation of how to use machine but I need help with how to save it for making a CD I can play on a CD player or computer. Do I save it as wave or what? This is indeed not a complicated task at all, you get a software that will allow you to save the audio from the cassette player as a file (wave, mp3, etc) or you can use a different software like I did (cause I am used to it...).
It will allow you to do exactly what you mentioned about (play the file from the player >>> save it on the computer while it is playing), so what I recommend you to do is jump into the water and try that. for this price it is worth the try, and you will learn in no time how to use it.

Won't work with my Macbook Pro - Mac seems to recognize the device, but audacity gives - 9997 error, "invalid sample rate" - regardless of the sample rate I set.

Software - I gave the link, it should support wav files.
Volume - Since this is an analog device you should find the "right" volume level manually on both comupter/tape, then you can adjust it when it is converted into a file because it is easier.

There is no way this can play in stereo as the headphone jack is mono only as far as i can see.
If u convert it to a pc can u save it to the pc to transfer to a cd just wondering

Every time I play my tapes on the usb cassette capture, why does it speed up a little? How do I fix it?!

If the device works well and the play button is pressed properly without moving it (half pressed or so) then this shouldn't happen.
Try playing it with several tapes, if the problem keeps occuring, I advise to contact the seller and ask for a solution (assuming it still has purchase protection / warranty).

Try using stable power source instead of aa batteries.
Hi I’ve just got one, my headphone jack isn’t working, any ideas why? It worked for a little while then started cracking when the headphones were in now any tape turns, but no noise comes out, and pointers on how to fix this? Thanks!

I want to gift it to my 90 years old brother. He has 100s of cassettes of his time.He can't go out to buy batteries to play this.. Can it be played through our house electricity plug/supply?.

@@ynskumar69 Buy a Sony/Panasonic Boombox, or a Technics/Kenwood tape deck for your brother, instead runs on ac mains. Use audacity and set the volume output to 5 on your boombox or tape deck, not higher as you will get a very loud audio track. Use 80 as Windows Volume. You will also need an ADS Tech Instant Music USB audio capture device, these connect by USB and Jack to 2x RCA cables, The Red/White cables go into the OUTPUT connector on the ADS Instant Music Audio device and the Jack goes to the Boombox. Set the Volume on your boombox to 5, and Windows 7/10 to 80 thats it.

I have one of these and it works well with good quality as a Walkman. I use a MacBook Air with a Mac cd recorder/player. you cannot insert the mini disk into this machine as it is all enclosed. Any ideas? I would like to load the software

Can we put digital songs onto blank cassette using this??
Hi dear Omar I,
Digital songs = digital content = computer files that are copied.
Analog songs = analog content = content that is taped on film, such as audio/videocassette.
This specific device won't allow you to copy digital songs at all, but if you manage to play them and record them into analog files then you will be able to play them on this tape cassette player.
Keep in mind this specific device doesn't offer a "Record" option.

Can we record from usb to empty cassett?
You need a cassette deck and a 3.5 mm to rca cable for that.
1. Plug in your USB to a PC/laptop.
2. Then plug in the 3.5mm to RCA cable from your device to the RCA input of your cassette deck.
3. Put a blank tape in.
4. Press record and play at the same time on your deck.
5. Play the USB audio from your device.
Done.

This specific tape cassette player doesn't offer a recording option, so the answer is NO.
There are other devices that might offer that.
Keep in mind that although the kind Farhan donie Pratama gave you an interesting solution, it isn't relevant to this specific tape player.

Why do you want to digitize? Just enjoy the beautiful analogue sound of the cassette through a high end player with Dolby B NR.

LOL, I'm not sure if you're serious or not so I will write down several reasons why it's done:
1. When was the last time you used a tape audio cassette? most people I know don't do it often, and probably won't do it ever again.
2. It takes space, while digitized file doesn't.
3. You can play the audio on your smartphone/computer etc.
4. Digital file doesn't get ruined.
5. You can re-master the audio file and play with it once it's digitized.
6. You can find old cassettes content in better audio quality these days
And so on and on... I could think of at least several more reasons...

Because tapes will degrade overtime so it’s more to preserve, I have cassettes from over 30 yrs ago and I would love to archive them.
I have a question. I recently bought one of these but idk if I can use it to make a tape with my computer? Also my computer doesn’t have a cd slot

1. You can download the software, no need for cd.
2. You can convert files from this tape to your computer. This specific device doesn't allow you to record on tapes, but I'm sure you can find others that do.

I have a mac, when I connect the USB cable to the mac is does not recognise the walkman, any tips? do you know if it works with Mac? another question, the CD that comes with it is very small do you know where to play it? is not the normal size of a CD...thank you for any help!!! best wishes!

You can use the small CD media with a standard CD player, place it in the center, and it should fit.

I didn't try this tape with a Mac, but the software (AUDACITY) has a Mac version, so I recommend downloading it, and assuming it should work correctly.

How is the sound quality for chrome tapes

This is a very good question, but a tricky one...
Basically, there are excellent normal tapes and bad quality chrome tapes, and the opposite is also true.
So I believe it is hard to tell in advance, unless you try it yourself (or someone else who is reading this comment can offer his/her own personal opinon).

At least you sorted this issue before I managed to reply, but once again - here's my previous reply to you:
Indeed, the volume level is determined via the 3.5mm cable/jack and not via the USB port/cable, which is intended to power the tape cassette player.
I wish the USB could be the relevant cable for this purpose, but unfortunately you're converting ANALOG date to Digital data, thus the need for the 3.5 audio cable.
