  • This video looks at the work of Museum Conservator Jane Wilkinson conserving the frame of Soane's original layout for the plan for a triumphal bridge across the Thames, ahead of the re-instatement of the original layout for the staircase recess in Number 13 Lincoln's Inn Fields for the first time since 1918.

There’s animal glue used in paintings, rabbits glue you can find it art supplies. It is usually heated in a double boiler. I think that’s what she was referring to.
“Rabbits Glue” ir is used for many things.

Wonderful. So rarely do you see frames restored (the process I mean).

May I ask what product was used for the initial cleaning solution? Thank you for sharing the video, lovely workmanship.

No professional freely gives away the secrets of their trade to strangers. Amazing you don’t know that.

yes indeed "no profession" types often refuse to share the little they know.
Others just answer questions & share skills to keep trades & skills alive.
Its called Compo, short for Guilders Composition & its often sold as such, but indeed you can make your own fillers out of all sorts.
The animal glue is known as Hide glue, but can e substituted with other binders depending on the requirements of the restoration. If its a historic frame, its best to use appropriate materials, which back in the day was boiled animal bones & skin. If more modern then PVA glue or Acrylic glue will suffice to bind your choice bulk filler together , be that chalk, gypsum, sawdust its important to have something mildly flexible that will dry or set hard. Epoxy resin mixed with builders filler is also workable. bicarbonate or even cornstarch can be good powders to mix in.
I recommend mixing on a tile, rather than palm of hand as shown by the lady. Most of these ingredients are chemically, busy, that said I do prefer to work hands on & have a few burns and scars to remind me of this. @@monkeygraborange
