I am loving this lecture series about BTS! I'm 60, and ARMY is the only fandom that I have ever joined. I do lots of charity work in BTS' name, and my brain stays active with the BU/Bangtan Universe hidden story line. I have NEVER seen an artist/singer have so many layers of meaning to a music video. I have worked with people from all over the world since 2015, to interpret these meanings. We have read books, studied facets and meanings of astronomy, astrology, the language of flowers, psychology, Korean history, Korean legends, and colloquialisms, etc... Many of us have learned Korean, just to understand BTS lyrics.
Michael Jackson made us dance. BTS (and BigHit) have changed our lives, and made us better people, and we have fun doing it.

I guess when we have Mr Bang Shi Hyuk a graduate in Philosophy from a Korea top university who happens to be gifted in music, as the owner of an Entertainment company, this is the kind of entertainment artistry we get.

Fantasy reading, she understands well the real reason. Why ARMY loves BTS so much. I am almost 50 years old. BTS is also the very first artist for me, whom I support and really love. I started to love them because of their music and the meaning of their songs. But what convinced me completely was their modesty and love for ARMY. I hated social media. But for BTS I have created a Twitter account. I am also very proud of ARMY. For all the good things they do on behalf of BTS. To me they are the best fandom in the world. I say with pride, I am an ARMY.

    교수님 중간중간 약간 울컥하신것같은건 제 기분 탓일까요..^^;

These lectures are what EVERY US media writer/entertainment writers need to know about BTS.🌹 They are not just a group from S. Korea. They are Game Changers in the music industry worldwide. BTS, BigHit & ARMY are like an onion....there are many different layers & as you peel off one layer at a time, you get to the heart of what BTS is all about, but you have to WANT to go deeper to get to the Truth & forego the basic "yea, they're a group that sings & dances". Thank you so much for sharing these lectures with us! Now, if only the USA writers will get it....sigh....

Love yourself

A truly interesting statement relating to Professor Lee's hypothesis about BTS's success is from PD Bang's Insight lecture when he described why America and the West embraced BTS seemingly before Korea (and Japan) did. Korean society has been ordered and influenced by the teachings of Confucius over the past 1,600 years. It is a system of hierarchical rules to preserve order and a "natural" flow for the individual to follow within the structure of society. We need look no further than the education system in South Korea, which stresses rote memorization and feeding back a teacher's exact words far more than free thinking and personal analysis. It is why the k-drama "Sky Castle" was such a hit and why Kim Namjoon was engrossed in watching it. It's also why South Korean, Chinese and Japanese parents who can afford it send their kids to colleges in the United States, where they can learn to think creatively rather than parrot a professor's words. PD Bang said the West "understands and appreciates" the creative form of story-telling in BTS videos. It allows and encourages freedom of thought, imagination and interpretation. Kudos to Professor Lee here for stepping forward with a creative analysis of BTS' artistry! She is part of this vitally important "revolution".

I am not a person who go crazy for any artists. I listen to music watch movies dramas. But I never had a favorite artist at all. However after stanning BTS, I felt like this is the best decision that I made in my life. They brought me happiness, self confidence, determination etc. They are not only just artists, but also the people who help me to live in this world. Whenever I face any kind of problems in my life I get to remember them. I think about how they faced their problems, how they overcame from their struggle etc. Also I always think about the lyrics of their songs and try to apply them in my life. They are role models. Thank u BTS. No one did like u. No one do like u. And also no one will do like u. Purple You.

I love this so much!! This lecture about BTS is meaningful and philosophical. This is something I like cuz I am into writing, philosophy and the arts. And I like that title, BTS is a new form of the arts. They have that whole package of the arts, the different forms of arts. I am so proud of BTS and being their Army fan.

    Autolike because... I love myself?

    - right, there's no point trying to figure out how bts became successful and it's borderline offensive when the answer "oh their music is great, they're amazing performers and lyricists" doesn't come out while it would if asked about other mostly western artists
    - i just want to say that i'm thankful to bts for making me interested in art and analyzing it. it used to be a burden at school but they gave me a push and i realized how interesting and educational it can be. now i have a lot of random knowledge that armys have exchanged in the fandom

This is sooo good. I hope there is an english version of your book... but then again, I might as well practice hangeul more...
I love revolutionary stories about how we people go with the flow with the toxic system of our world. when i talk about it with my friends, surprisingly they agree with me however, we cannot escape from this prison like system that we unconsciously follow because it is how society requires us. we become helpless. i am glad BTS share the same perspective as I am and are brave enough to tell it to the world. there are some who did it however, it seems like they really do not dwell much on it but BTS did. just like how you said it, they do it constantly and we ARMYs felt that it was genuinely from their heart.
another one is that BTS makes you informative and intelligent. they make you read books that you won't probably ever read. I love those kind of books related to psychology, philosphy, arts, etc. however, i cannot do so because there is no force that pushes me to it since I do not major in that category and have not much time. somehow, because of it, makes you want to learn more and would really spare a time, money and effort on it which is worth it.
those are just the good influencial things that BTS has ever given us. thank you for your lectures, it was good and worth to watch. borahae 💜💜💜

I was about to stopped listening to kpop due to several news scandals but BTS saved it for me.. The teamwork of BIGHIT and BTS, their passion for craft, the messages in their music that reaches anyone despite language barrier, the 7 different persona that merge as 1 are only few reasons that made me hooked to them..i dont want to 'end my words coz i might it eat it in the end' but for me i think BTS will be my last group that I will adore this deeply 🤗💜🔰 #BTSforever

Really enjoying these lectures. I always think that when this time fades I hope BTS members are able to look back on the difference they make and be proud of it. I hope it inspires other musicians and fandoms. I'm not dumb enough not to know that a lot of it is good marketing but their choice to sing most of their songs about issues that a lot of musicians only touch on briefly is risky but has worked for them. Mostly I think because they focused on building a relationship with their fandom. Lectures like this that take another look at not just their influence and that of ARMY but at what I think will be shift in the way musicians will go about marketing themselves and reaching fans is pretty interesting. I've noticed that a lot of people who post reaction videos are giving their fans names and taking time to give comments that would make them feel extra special so yes...the times are changing even as we speak.
