Things that are seen as invasive seem to be things that have benefits people really need right now and that would help everybody out so much. For example dandelions and most "weeds". What a beautiful and wonderful world we live in. Most people seem to forget with all the chaos in there lives. Thank you for the information I always knew it was a beautiful tree and now I know why :)
You're welcome. It certainly is a beautiful tree, and is is such a useful tree. I hope you're able to make some tea or tincture if you haven't already and enjoy all of it's benefits
I am a beekeeper, and the honey from Mimosa trees is very tasty.
Oh no way. We're beekeepers too. I'm not sure we have isolated the honey harvest from mimosa, but I bet it would be SO good.
Oh... another reason to keep more of them in my yard! Im hoping to have my bee set up going by next summer, depending on how my cancer treatments go.
My daughter and I brought a basket of mimosa flours into our house thinking the house would smell as pretty as the yard. When we came in we both wrinkled our nose to a very strong urine smell. We never brought them in again but enjoyed them in the breeze instead. They are still my favorite tree, but we pull up hundreds when they pop up like weeds. They will take over like she said, they are everywhere. We are in S. Tn.
How many flowers do you put in a cup to steep them? Do you pour boiling water or just hot water over the flowers? How long should I steep them? Also is it necessary to take off the tiny green stem attached to the flowers before steeping? I have a beautiful Mimosa in my back yard and other ones in our neighborhood. I also grew up with a big Mimosa in our back yard growing up in Western North Carolina. We climbed the tree and played in it all the time. I was always drawn to it by the heavenly flowers and leaves. I had no idea of its medicinal properties until about 10 years ago but I didn't know the best way to use it until now. I'm so glad I found your channel. I trust God in every way and look to him for guidance in my life each day. God Bless You For Sharing Your Knowledge Of Herbs and Such With Us! Blessings & Love To You & Your Family!😊❤🙏🙏🙏
I have them in my yard in Missouri... my mom planted 2 she dug up off the side of the road way back in 1989... Those 2 are long gone as they only live about 20 years... I have 1 big one left and countless small ones all over after trying to get them all off my property for years. I have been letting them grow back because my daughter in law loves them, but they wont grow where she lives in Colorado. I have been working on turning some of them into bonsi type container trees she can keep in the house. I just found out about the medicinal value 2 months ago and so glad I did!! I have ADHD and I'm Autistic. I will definitely be keep more of them in my yard! but they sure do make a horrendous mess...lol...
I just discovered the benefits of Mimosa this week! I have been cutting these down everywhere on my property for years! No more! I have tried the tea and am going to try the bark today. I have struggled with depression, anxiety, past trauma, and grief...tried big pharma, only numbs and doesnt actually help anything. Looking forward to trying all of the Mimosa on my healing journey. TY for your valuable knowledge, May God be with you!
Can we get an update? I'm growing some, might go out on the nature trail down here in Louisiana. Really want to try it out, I also deal with depression and anxiety really bad
Mimosa is a nitrogen fixer for the soil. It adds nitrogen in other words. If you are growing it, cut it back frequently and just drop the leaves, branches, on your ground as a mulch. As it decomposes it will also add nitrogen to the soil. Comfrey does the same thing as does black walnut.
Thank you for explaining the difference in what the flowers & bark are generally better used for & for suggesting to combine them!
Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge, may God bless you as well
Please make a video of preparation of Mimosa....
It amazes me how quickly they extract, and it’s a rush to get pretty pictures of the flowers in the tincture before they lose color haha 😆
the good stuff really statrts at about 11 min 50 seconds but i want to thnak you for making it. i really am over making all types of shit and this helps./ i like learning as i grow into my older years.. making muy owns meds is where its at... just short of opium is where im going with this... im healthy as fudge too
Really nice video, Thank you! I appreciate all the details of how to tincture!
Thank you so much for this video, love hearing from people who use medicine themselves, not only theorethical news. I remember reading that we can make cold infusion with fresh flowers. Just can't remember how many hours to steep, but I am steeping them now, and try every few hours to see.
Thanks Alicia. I have been picking the flowers for tea. Good information. I will gather some bark also and make a tincture.
They are beautiful!! They wilil take over and you are forever weeding them. Butterflies and hummingbirds love them. I had to cut mine down because itwas falling on my rood and hard to clean off. It didn't die, and is coming back. I will be keeping it trimmed, and have found many trees popping up all over my yard. I plan to keep one, not close to my home so it wont get on my roof. It is one of the most exotic and beautiful trees I have seen. I wish it wasn't envasive. My rabbits like to eat it. =) Now I am finding out we can too.
Decided to learn about our backyard mimosa tree today and found your helpful video. Thank you for all the info!
Aw nice! I'm glad you have it right there to enjoy and use. Ours are in full, glorious bloom right now and I'm enjoying them so much!
Very Informative Video. Just for the record, they were introduced to America around 1745.
Also, I live in Indiana close to Cincinnati, Ohio (zone 6a) and I occasionally see them on properties where they have spread through self-seeding. So they are at least partially naturalized here as well.
I even discovered a seedling growing in a pot that a bird had deposited, my first Mimosa.
1745? Interesting. They are native to the Mediterranean, but in Asia they have been used for medecine for a long time. I think the Romans mention them a lot (as "Acacia).
Thank you for your openness and honesty you’re a beautiful person sharing a beautiful tree good news Americans are turning to herbs
You're welcome. Where are you located? Do you have mimosa where you are?
I live in North Carolina and it’s considered to be extremely invasive where I live! I have one at my house
Loved how you described how it affected you. Great video.
I'm glad you found it useful. Hopefully you get to find and use this medicine too.
🙏🏼 thank you.
Love your video and content..it was difficult to hear you , though. Mimosa is my favorite tree...I call it the original butterfly tree!
only bad thing about mimosa trees is that the branches are extremly weak and are prone to internal rot.
you might want to prune it they respond really well to pruning.
and you dont have to be a expert pruner either, so dont be afraid to cut away.
also if you are a leather worker mimosa bark ground up is a natural non toxic tanner.
I found your video very informative, Thank you. I was wondering the dosage for children, my 5 year old grandson needs help focusing. I also have a 16 month old grandson who gets very cranky when teething (they all do) but I want him to be as pain free as possible without harsh medicine. Thank you.
When I tried a tincture with the bark only, I felt very calm and in the present moment. But when I tried a tincture with the bark and the flower I felt kinda high lol.
Maybe too much flower to bark ratio? If just the bark works for you stick with that. Great observation
Great job with explaining plant identification and uses. The scratches on the Mike is hard on the ears but content is great!
Ah yes, usually my husband or kiddos are making these videos for me, with just a phone. We are for sure not pros. I am one of the most tech-challenged people I know. Haha
Would you use the bark for insomnia? I saw that alot of people in Taiwan use it for insomnia.
Interesting video my question is how do you store it while it’s steeping ,where should you store when it’s done and how long will it keep? Thank you for your time much appreciated.
Ahhh Whuaaa tha fudge, Lmao I thought you were on the drive way. On the roof wow lols.
I had 6oz of Ho-Shou-Wu and it was pick pocketed out of my back pack Indianapolis, Indiana.
very informational video thanks . maybe you could fix the audio/microphone ?!
I was wondering if the flowers would retain their potency if they have been frozen immediately. Is this something you have tried?
I did enjoy this video, thank you very much.
Is it okay to make the tincture with the stems still attached to the blossoms?
I put mine in big pots
I just found you!!! I love what you are doing !! I love who you are!! I love you!!
Do you need a Mom? 😊😍
Is mimosa one of those tree barks that doesn't make a difference if you dry the bark or use fresh?
I would love to find a fragrance with this aroma. It is a great aroma.
Honeysuckle too. Can't find essential oils of either. Thought about trying to distill some myself one day and then I would have an essential oil and a hydrosol. I'm with you 😊
Does the plant mess with any type of medications? How are you ingesting this? By the cup full or?
Is there a best time to harvest the bark?
Do you think fresh lemon juice also will pull out the qualities or is that a different process
Hello, how do you deal with all the tiny bugs on the flowers when making tincture, washing is tricky because they are so very delicate and bugs don't come out anyway so I just shake gently and go ahead and make tincture and will filter out anyway. Do you have any better suggestions? Thanks!
Thanks for sharing!! I would suggest that you get a better microphone it was very hard at times to hear you.
Hello! amazing video. I have one Mimosa tree right down my house but its on the central street where lots of cars pass by. Do you think its a good idea to pick flowers from this tree and make a tea? also how do I make a tea for one person for example? with one, two , three flowers?
Is this safe to take with SSRIs like Zoloft? I can't seem to find any info on contraindications. Thanks ✨
How do you clean all of the pests from the flowers? I’m in West TN and I just picked some. I’m finding it has quite a lot is small pests.
I just picked some I was wondering about freezing in ziplock and then shaking gently outside after pest are frozen..I guess I have to try different methods
@@LilReg5840 Thanks! I appreciate your answer! Someone told me they do a vinegar and water wash 2xs and that has seemed to work for them. I wonder if it changes the flavor though. I’m thinking the Mimosa will be able to withstand a bit of water if it can withstand the thunderstorms of West TN.
Is there any negative side effects? And what's making you feel the affects?
Hi . Where do you just buy it
Does it work if you eat the flower also? Thanks
Has anyone tried a preperation in glycerin?
Can you dry the leaves to make tea?
Have you ever heard of adding the flower to wine? Will it work ?
Thank you! Very informative. How do you use with children and how long do you simmer? Can you make a glycerite?
Yes you can make a glycerite with the flowers. maybe mix that with lemon balm. You won't be able to extract anything from the bark with glycerine though, so keep that in mind. But yes you could also simmer it in water and make a tea.
Mine are covered with bugs what am I supposed to do
I know this was 3 years ago but, I hope you can answer 2 important questions ...
I saw a large Mimosa tree in my neighborhood and most of the tree and its branches hang over a sidewalk
So I picked some blossoms and broke off a small branch.
What I found on the stems and bark are what look like scales as they easily come off is this normal ~
Or Could the tree be infested with critters such as scales ? I don't want to make tea from the blossoms if that is the case.
I did notice that the tree's trunk looks very old~ It's quite a large tree :)
Could I root a branch for my own Mimosa Tree?
Hi, those are great questions. I'm not sure what kind of scales they might be, but I know that anything scaley isn't normal. Mimosa trees are susceptible to disease and don't typically live over 15 years. It is likely there is something going on with that tree since it's older. The best thing to do it find a different tree to harvest from. It will not root from a cutting, and ethically you wouldn't want to do that either. They are very invasive and it would be better to harvest from a tree that is established. Planting invasives is not advised. Hope that helps :) -Alicia
How long do I simmer the bark
I would add about half a cup of chopped bark to a quart of water and simmer on low, covered for about 20 minutes, then let sit until cooled to further extract.
How much of the liquid u drink?
"invasive" is not a status , it´s a state of mind....;)
Hi Thank you so much for this great video !!
Is it safe to use when breastfeeding ? Thank you
I was going to make some freah mimosa tea but, the flowers are infested with little white 1/4" worms. Now what?
So would moonshine 120 proof work?
120 proof contains 60% alcohol. You would need to use half shine and half water to get it to about 30% alcohol and then use that to tincture in. I do that a lot. The only things that need 120 proof or even 160 proof would be things like medicinal mushrooms that you would make a "double extract" (look that up) out of or extremely resinous plants like cottonwood buds, gum weed, etc- where you need that higher proof to be the stronger solvent for resins
you didn't
explain how to use it, after it sits in the jar, how much do you take and what do u put it in after.
Giving dosages isn't legal. I personally take 3-5 droppers as needed up to 4 times a day. Caution always with new plants.
Do u have any Mimosa tincture for sale? My son is there in Gatlinburg now from Arkansas. I could really benefit from some. Thanks
Yes i do but I'm not there right now. Can I ship it after Thanksgiving?
@@Wildharvestlife darn. My sons there through next week. How much do u sale it for? Maybe email me soconnor100@yahoo.com
Well my husband will be in the shop tomorrow. He can get you what you need. Do you want a 2 oz mimosa tincture?
actually, drying the flowers is fine. They don't lose potency. Either for flower essences or for tincturing. For tincturing, volatile oils and chemical constituents are still in the dry plant material. The noise from the mic is pretty bad. Had to turn up the sound to hear you, but then the mic is rustled and it's bad.
Can I just put it in my blender and chug it
"Nutriceutical"
Teach cameraguy to stop touching the microphone.
Never knew this about mimosas! Thanks! All I knew about those was that you sure didn’t want to see grandma getting a fresh switch off a mimosa!🤣
