Thanks for the shoutout brother! You skimmed that soooo nice. I’m with you on the squeegee too. We also throw another log in the fire when we are done our sauna session to bake the room a little and remove moisture.
Thanks for the video. I'll be building a sauna/shower house on our northern Wisconsin property next spring. I love the sloping solution for water drain.
Omg youse guys know each other?! I feel the odd channels i watch coming together... May there be a collaboration video out there somewhere. Just in case Graeme needs a small room filled with humidity and humidity in the US south for example.
Smart thinking to put a floor with a drain in a sauna. Seen a lot of cabin/sauna build where they seem to have forgotten this step! Are you going to put on some sort of concrete sealer?
so that would have been basically putting the planks of cedar and calling it a day haha. I really wanted to insulate the bottom as it would have been fairly drafty i feel like, soo drain i went!
so it was 2 bags of concrete overall! 1.5 for spacing and i saved 1/2 a bag for the finish coat. I'm still in the building process, but it's holding up for sure, so i'm stoked!
@@clutchbeyers so yess a bit of cracking at the first step. going to try and patch that up... perhaps more support from the first step to the hole (1/8" to the hole)

great call! thinking i'm gonna just leave the door open (when it's not freezing out), to let it dry out that way too. insulation next!
"There we kinda go" .... Awesome vid Szeto, perfect fit into the series! Remember to do the big timelapse when all complete..!!
oh 10000%! what this is all building up to! haha mega appreciate you jesper! ready for the VIKING VID!!!
Dude nice video. Found you through Miles. Can’t wait to watch more of your content.
mega appreciate it andrew and michelle! stoked to see what y'all come up with too!
Great video, nice to see an update on the build. The wooden grid for concrete pouring was a clever method
yaaa! it was highlighted in a book and it seemed soo crazy at first! jonathan's vid was the first that i saw and basically copied that!
@@AndrewSzeto Planning to grab the Ebook!
Looking so good man! Can’t wait to see it finished 🍻
thanks soo much Ben! I can't wait to see if finished either!

cheers! seems to be a bit of a defacto standard and thus far it's held up pretty nicely!!
You're the man! Stoked on this!
just stoked to get the content out baby! sooo much work! haha but love trying to tell a fun story.
or at least make fun of myself 😂
Awesome, man! Think you’ll be able to use it by winter?
definitely! it's the push! thanks for checking it out morley! your off grid station coming out tomorrow?!
Who wants to DANCE BABY!!!!!
OOOOH THAT"S THE BEST I CAN DO MY GUY! hahahaha

Chun-Li is an under-appreciated but very solid character selection
haha riiight?! those quick kicks i tell ya!

i was thinking about it... i don't know what's good tho. any recommendations?
Great video, very fun. Floor looks fabulous. Bet hauling bags of concrete up the hill was a work out. : ) Well done, mate. Mahalo for sharing! : )
ooooh yes! also quite the journey there too haha. mega appreciate you as always gary! you're probably not coming to catskills makercamp are you?!
@@AndrewSzeto Mahalo. Sorry will miss Makercamp again. One of these years. :)

Looking good! You working on it this weekend?
a bit! actually finished the roofing and mostly editing that. might throw some insulation up!
@@AndrewSzeto well I'm in town and it's a long weekend. HMU if you need help
@@TheGrantAlexander willlll do! building clothing racks off camera for amber's flea markets. that's the focus today haha
Really nice job Andrew! Question for you- did you use any specific screws for securing the durarock or would standard decking screws work alright?
Nice video!
Did you consider doing an "open floor" with gaps between the board for drainage (no cement or cement board)
so that would have been basically putting the planks of cedar and calling it a day haha. I really wanted to insulate the bottom as it would have been fairly drafty i feel like, soo drain i went!
@@AndrewSzeto yeah, many sauna old timers have the floor open to the air
did you endd up covering the drain? some sort of cap during sauna'íng to stop the cold air from coming up?
oooh so i really should. atm, i'm using a glove to cover it while it's heating up. I will have to figure out a better cap system.
Nice job ! Is the skim coat the final finish or you put tiles on that ? Was it hard to make a clean silk finish ?
Nice job man! hows it holding up and treating you so far? how many bags of mortor mix did u end up using to fill in the spaces of the spacers?
so it was 2 bags of concrete overall! 1.5 for spacing and i saved 1/2 a bag for the finish coat. I'm still in the building process, but it's holding up for sure, so i'm stoked!
