The designer of this must be colorblind. red on blue is the classic combination for visual fatigue. That said, this IS on my wantlist as it looks like a nice weight for a worker placement game, and I like the theme. At the moment it's between printings, maybe at some point they'll see the light and realize they should make one side of the board prettier with more colors and less orange.... :-) I think they'd probably sell more of them if they did... Also, how do you know who's ships are who's if they're all orange?
This was the first time I've thrown chips into the gamble that is kickstarter. Excited to see it turned out so well. I've been really happy with it and this has made me more apt to sign up for other kickstarters.
I've been subscribed to this channel for about half a year now, but I've never really understood the"shut the door"thing. Is it something like"shut the door- I'm recording", or is it something else that happened earlier on the channel?
+Owlblocks David Something that happened a couple of times early on. He was in the middle of a review and apparently one of his kids would open the door, see he's busy and head off but leave the door open, so in the middle of a sentence he'd yell "shut the door" to someone off camera, and then forget to edit it out. After that happened a couple of times he started getting lots of comments/kidding/flak/etc. about it, and at that point it was history. The original videos with the comments are probably still out there but I don't remember which ones they were, I've seen them but it's been a while. If they end up moving to an office/studio space in 2016, they may need to designate a door or set one up as "the door" to be shut (no doubt, the one to the studio area), just to keep the tradition alive...
Glad you liked this game (especially after Zee wasn't so keen) as I've been really impressed with it. The symmetric beginning that becomes increasingly asymmetric as you build connections is really interesting to me. Add in the bumped/removing ships element, and it makes it quite different to other worker placement games I have (for example Lords of Waterdeep). (Although it should be noted that you placed that pirate in the one place that Riff-Raff aren't allowed to go ;) )
@Owlblocks David In early videos of the Dice Tower, his kids would sometime enter the room where he films and he would tell them to "shut the door" because they were currently recording.
FYI, on Tom's Lookback review, Tom bumped up his rating of this from 8.0 to 8.5 and says it's still great in 2020 (other than the color scheme). ua-cam.com/video/MUo8TnXyi_E/v-deo.html
MarcusWindrune Just a guess, but yes....a game he enjoys that his kids also really like will generally always be an "In to my collection" type of game...at least that's the way it would be for me as well.
@@Syncopator It might be pointing out tha tthe new reprint of the game that came out recently has added a lot more color and updated a lot of the artwork. It is still very orange, but there is a lot more detail and other colors added in as well. (they also ditched the white side of the board that no one used anyway as it was a Kickstarter Exclusive thing).
"What's the most important things thing to have?"
"Points."

Ben Thorp What did Zee say about it?
+Michael Gardner Zee did his own review and said he really liked it, so I don't know what Ben is talking about here...

Lots of fun. Fast paced. Even with 6 or 7 people. I think the color scheme is attractive.
Wow, I didn't expect the "Into my collection" verdict, did you really like the game or is it because the girls liked it so much?
MarcusWindrune Just a guess, but yes....a game he enjoys that his kids also really like will generally always be an "In to my collection" type of game...at least that's the way it would be for me as well.
+MarcusWindrune The mechanisms look good, it's just the color scheme that sucks... Maybe you could wear some kind of tinted glasses while playing...

This looks kind of similar to Alien Frontiers. Has anyone played both to compare the two?
holy crap dude Vassel's gonna have his hands full if his daughters get pissed at him.
