Is the Roush Stage 3 Better than the Shelby GT500?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 вер 2024
- I give you a full review of the Roush stage 3 supercharged Mustang and compare it to the Shelby GT500. Both cars make about the same amount of power and look fantastic and unique. Which car would you rather have?

I like the Roush Stage 3 over the GT 500 I currently own a Stage 3 and have owned a Gt 500.
what's the price difference between the two?
Which gt500?
Yea which gt500 did u on. 5.4 5 8 or the 5.2. I'm sure it makes a difference.
@@scarface9617gt500 has a better drivetrain. Better motor and can handle way better around turns I’m sure he was lying
@@danielarroyo7550 I disagree with better drivetrain because the RS3 has 750hp (only 10 less than the GT500) but the RS3 has 670ft/lbs (GT500 only has 620. The GT500 has to run higher RPMs more for consistent power delivery where as the RS3 does not. Lastly, I know 3 owners of GT500's and 2 of them have already had engine issues and needed replacement. As far as handling, I believe they are comparable. Just my thoughts though. Both cars are awesome.
This is officially a Mustang channel now I love it he’s got a 2020 TwinTurbo and he’s got a dark horse on order on the way 👍🏻
Honestly if you have the money the 2020+ GT500 is the one to get. I may be a bit biased but it looks and sounds better to me. Plus it's more special. Just something about a Shelby. I'm sure the Roush is a lot of fun too though so I don't suppose there is a wrong choice here.
100% agree. GT500 is such a beast that sticks to the road in the twisties
I know you can't give that car all it has with street tires. I have the 750 Roush tune on my 18 and even with drag radials, it will sometimes fishtail at a 70mph punch. Anything under 50mph forget it
I Still Like the 2018 - 2023 ///Headlights to the 2024 Headlights.
I go by Flammer all the time. Gonna have to check that ride out.
I got a 21 stage 3 love it thanks great video bro
I wonder what will happen when Rouch gets their hands on one of those Bronco Raptors like the one behind you at the end of the video.
I feel the heat soak from here!! I don't really think these 2 should be compared honestly. I feel like Roush is just a couple notches below the Shelby. Not to mention the DCT trans is just a far better trans over the 10r80.
Fact is: GT500 has their fanboys who think its the ultimate Mustang. The problem with the GT500 is no TCM access. Meaning you can't tune the Transmission. So even after you spend $100K to make it 1500HP, its still going to be slower than a 1000HP GT. Why? No TCM access. People can go ahead and get mad, but its verifiable fact.
Facts
1. If close, I am always going with factory power over a tuner
2. Roush Mustangs never perform at the level of their claimed HP
Does the interior come in other colors than red? As far as the exterior goes?
But does Jack sign the glove box ?
Thats actually not a regular stage 3, thats a special edition roush called the jack roush edition 1 of 60 and it makes 775 hp
You should cancel your Black Horse and get the COBRA coming out.
Unless they fixed it that front feed Roush SC has bad heat soak problems... Car looks nice but no thanks with that SC.
👍
The one main drawback over a Shelby - insurance value. The Roush has a GT VIN, so insurance might not give you the full Roush cost if totaled, whereas a GT500's VIN says what it is and you'll get that value out of it in a totaled-out situation.
Wrong. Insure it with the right company. Mine is listed as a Roush Stage 3 on policy.
Check out a Steeda Mustang.
HOW ABOUT A 3 WAY COMPARISON WITH A 2023 SHELBY GT WITH S/C OPTION, THE ROUSH STAGE 3 AND THE SALEEN S302 BLACK LABEL?...I AM JUST SAYING!...GOD BLESS AMERICA! 😇
RacerX, Brother you had too little exhaust sound.
roush cars are sweet but for the money the gt500 holds its value much better and draws more attention.
I’d rather the gt500 instead. It’s just a better package all around.
GT 500 Mainly because the 500 is a much better track car
First
No
no its not not even close
Fake vents on a car that capable is
.. I can't even think of how stupid that is
Imagine having a roush with fake hood vents 🤮
No…absolutely not. Thanks for sharing, I like the Channel, but just no. Roush provides terrible value for the money. Anyone with half a brain in their head can immediately see that a dozen plastic parts don’t make it worth $40,000 more. It’s honestly a complete JOKE. Also, where are all the OEM parts that you don’t get deducted from the cost of the vehicle? Do all of those come with the car? Jack Roush needs to stop writing all over perfectly good vehicles.
You lost me at “non functional”….and “275 rears”……I’m out. What a joke to add some advanced auto parts store stick ons
Are you speed racers brother? Do you call your wife Trixie
What a joke. It could be a stage 10 and it would still get crushed by an NA Mustang. Those Roush tunes are awful and the blower is Sss. Much better off buying a GT and doing an ESS or Whipple
Problem with the Roush is when it comes to to sell or trade. There is no listing for that vehicle so you start negotiating at GT Premium pricing.
I agree with that, but anyone buying a Roush should already know what they are looking at.
Very true statement which is bad for people selling cause will limit the market only to people that know what they are looking for.
Correct, I took a beating on my 2016 Roush Stage 3.
Thats why i waiting til i see one for maybe 40k
You can get a great deal on a pre-owned one because of that. I flew out to pick one up and drove it 15 hours home. It was worth it.
I would take the GT500 for sure... I live near Tindol Ford and see A LOT of Roush cars on the streets. They look great, sound great and I have no doubt they perform great.. but the way that GT500 looks and sounds is just hard to beat.
We must live close to one another lol, I know where you are talking about and I agree with you 100%. Mt. Holly here, hope to see you around some time!
I’m near there too! My first wife worked at Tindol Ford in the late 90s.
@@pchappy2.0 I’m just south of you 🍻
@@chopdogrulz1337 I like to roll through the lot occasionally when I’m at Gastonia Dodge. It’s a small world sometimes.
Don’t ever buy from them. They’re crooks. My dad ordered a gt500 from them. They lied to him telling him it was on parts hold when they never actually sent his order and tried to keep his deposit
I had a 2018 Roush but mine was a manual stage three and that car rocked!
Agree, 17 owner here, love my car, Ruby Red, 6 spd. 7,200 mi., just a fun car to drive on sunny days.
The 10 speed is nice, But the DCT in the Shelby is a whole different animal, it’s a game changer. I think it’d still be a good bit faster…
Sucks the DCT isn't tunable though.
@The Fitness Life from what I've seen people were running 8 second passes on stock trans and I think north of 1200hp
@@leopapio683 Yeah sounds about right, in order to run 8s in the gt500 you need to be making around 1200whp. The DCTs suck at launching and really holds them back and you can't tune them, they usually have bad 60 foots. But 10r80 coyotes have hit 8s with 950whp+
@@thefitnesslife4988 I mean 8 seconds pass is still 8 seconds lol
But you 100% right, but I also think that delay is the reason the stock trans can handle those power levels without a tune.
That's the biggest reason I haven't touch my HC lol that and the transfer case are weak points.
But the gt500 I might do a 1000whp build
@@thefitnesslife4988 cuz Furd is trash 🤣🤣🫵🏽🫵🏽🫵🏽🫵🏽
18+ Roush blowers have a super bad tendency to heat soak, and they are also MAP sensor based and not MAF sensor. I know Lund won’t tune them because of that and the blower is just inefficient.. if you really want a Roush get an 11-17 RS3 with the 2.3 blower. It’ll make plenty of power and it whips up instantly, you also don’t have to worry about the heat issues anywhere near as bad as a 18+
I have a 21 with the Roush supercharger kit stage two 750 hp I remember hearing something about the stage one had heat problems but I didn’t hear anything about the stage to have any problems because they upgraded the intercooler
@@haileyandcasey4723 heat exchanger and inter cooler will help it, but the main thing is if I can’t get Lund to tune it I don’t care about it.
I think an interchiller would sort out any heat soak issues with this blower. I put one on my Whippled 10R80 GT got another 46whp just from the cold air alone.
@@CoyoteAUS it does but it’s a hassle, it’s a flawed design from the factory that Roush never really addressed. Whipple is also way more efficient, those new 3.0’s and 3.8’s are wild.
Heat Soak was indicative to 2018 to mid 2019.
In mid 2019, Roush incorporated the LTR (low temperature radiator) aka a larger more efficient heat exchanger & might have changed the pump..but not sure about the pump.
I know this to be true from email conversations with Roush.
I own a later year 2019 with the larger heat exchanger and have low IAT (inlet air temperature)
The 2650 supercharger has a 170 degree twist on the two lobes as opposed to the 2.3L, which has a 160 degree twist, thus making the 2650 more efficient and the 2650 also has a more robust bearing than the 2.3L supercharger.
As a Shelby owner! I think it’s something I would definitely consider if doing it all over! Both are nice, the Shelby has a greater following, but the Roush is getting there! Resale value is where the Shelby pulls it out! But I personally, wouldn’t mind owning one of these stage 3’s!❤️❤️❤️Thanks Sir
I own a Shelby as well and they aren't comparable at all. Wouldn't ever consider a roush after being in my friends. horrible tbh.
I will keep my 13 Trinity (with easy mod's). Never seen the back of a Roush on the street.
The drivetrain in the Roush or Shelby 5.0 mustangs just can’t compare to the drivetrain in the GT500’s. The 5.2 is incredibly stout and the DCT is unbeatable from a drivability perspective. I love me a 10 speed auto but other than for drag racing after having 10 speed fully built is only when it shines over the DCT.
You should do a video on why the coyote engine can handle so much compared to other engines in its class
Double over head cam, just breathes better and responds very well to mods. Compared to its competitors which carry 6.2l pushrod v8, old technology
Shelby and Roush are cool, but I’ve always liked the Saleen Mustangs. No doubt Shelby is historic and Roush is legendary. The S550 Saleen is beautiful
Spot on my dude!! All time favorite is a '95 and '99 S351 baby!
Saleen’s are special!❤️❤️
What a nice looking car! I really love the black and red interior. It just pops! The exhaust note sounds pretty good. That supercharger gives you more low end punch. I think I would be more of a supercharger kinda guy than turbo. I think it's a good combo that adds that missing punch from an NA 5.0. I'll take it! Great video buddy!
The Roush tune is extremely conservative for the warranty, the vmp tune for the Roush gets a ton more out of it
I wish I could’ve afforded a Roush, but I got 22GT PP Mischievous purple. I especially love the boost and I wish Ford would’ve put the switch for our active exhaust like Roush so we don’t have to go through the entire computer on screen and reset every time etc
A Beautiful and quick Stang. When it comes to building a Mustang and fantastic Ford engines. Roush Performance builds some great Mustangs and F150 pickups. His Ford/Mercury racing legacy goes back to 1985. His Trans Am Mustangs won 119 races and 24 championship. His Nascar team began racing in 1988 with his involvement with Nascar that still continues today with new co owner Brad Keselowski. The American flags on the Roush Mustang is to say thanks to members of our military. Thanks for the ride along RacerX.
.
Incredible car. I want you to know that some of your stats are wrong. This car is not a stage 3. It is actually a 2020 Jack Roush Special Edition. One of 60 in America. It makes 775hp, not 750. It also does a 10.4 quarter mile. Love the vids tho!
Beautiful car. If it had a manual that would be a plus for my taste, as compared to the GT500. Also - unless you’re buying to keep it forever, Roush doesn’t hold value as well as the Shelby.
Funny how Ford has to send their cars to a 3rd party to not make Hellcat Hp! 😂😅😂
I don't see how that's funny. I mean, 5.0 liter versus 6.2 liter...what do you expect?
@@xtnuser5338 because these Ford soy boys will try and tell you the Mustang is better when it clearly is not. 🤷♂️
@@heffescott8355 "Better" is a subjective thing, right? Chargers/Challengers are better at some things, and Mustangs are better at some other things. They're just different choices made to appeal to different buyers.
And different people value those different qualities differently. Some people will like the Dodges better, and some people will like the Fords better.
If it's funny when people try to demand that THEIR choice is best...then you're hysterical. I've got a GT3RS, but I don't go around insulting Dodge or Ford owners for having their favorite. They're all cool cars in different ways.
This is not a 2020 Stage 3. It's called a Roush Edition Mustang which was a very limited run Roush during 2020. It only came in that color combination and was a better all around car than the Ford built GT500.
Interesting.. all of the paperwork said it was a 2020 Roush Stage 3 car.. mods listed and all.
The badging is the give away. Plus the dash plaque also shows that it is a Jack Roush Edition which is comparable to a Stage 3 but is not.
Yes this is JRE. I have one actually serial number 1. Of 60 ish cars made and Roush advertises 775 HP. I also have a 22 gt500 The 500 is a raw aggressive car the Roush is just comfortable and feels like you could drive for days. Both great cars
@@mikebutler8043 does your Roush have the variable lift spoiler wing?
I remember reading about the Jack Roush Edition w/775hp & variable wing
My wife has wanted a Shelby or a Roush since forever. We looked at both and love them both. But she really loves some of the other touches Roush has and Shelby’s don’t. She now has a 2021 Stage 3 that she is over the moon about.
Is it 750 HP from the factory ?
Yes, it's 750hp straight from Roush. The car is a complete rebuild as Roush strips down the base GT and completely rebuilds it. It is not a GT with just a supercharger. RacerX completely downplays just how special Roush cars are.
@@davidgoesbowling8959 is the Rouch a Tuning company that belongs to Ford? do you order this Rouch straight from Ford Dealership or do you order just a base model GT and then you send it to Roush Company?
@Ready On 3 Roush Performance is a company who owns the SVT contract for Ford. To purchase a Roush Mustang or F-150 as they do both, you must find an authorized/certified Ford dealer as Roush only allows certified dealerships to sell their products. I hope this answers your question?
@Ready On 3 to order a Roush you would visit an authorized dealer and go from there. Tindol Roush Performance in Gastonia, NC is where I purchased my Stage 3 Trak Pak from as they have the largest on hand inventory in the states. If the build you want is not available, they will be able to give you options.
@@davidgoesbowling8959 Got you , thanks
I'm a sucker, would still want the Shelby. I'd only ever be going the speed limit, okay maybe 20 over on the highway sometimes. Power isn't completely important. But the Shelby... that thing looks cool.
I wonder if Roush does anything to the 10r80?
For the people who don’t want to watch the full video. No it’s not
Roush are nice but if you're looking for resale down the road, Shelbys hold their value a Lot better than Roush and Saleen, based on personal experience.
Roush never could keep up, so no, absolutely not. I will go with factory modifications.
I believe the Shelby retains its value better plus if you get a manual you get the trash MT82 in the Roush
@9:19 Yea you can take it to California, but it might be illegal to drive in track mode out there lol
I'll the this one over the 500 because of the supercharged coyote and. The torque numbers are so much higher on this Roush , shows how it would absolutely walk away from the shelby.
Im about to install a Roush Stage 3 in my 2017 GT Convertible. I cant wait...
Love that dealer. I bought my Expedition from them and had the best experience I have ever had at a dealer there. I was just thinking today that I might wanna trade it back to them towards a mustang
The plastic Paddle Shifters pads are better in California when it's 116° F. It they're metal expect blisters. I also never cared about the Supercharger Whine... I like the Roar better and hearing the exhaust. In August 2022 I bought the only White V8 Mustang with the 3rd Pedal 6 Speed Manual Transmission in all of California. It is my 2022 Roush Mustang with the S/N:22.0001.450R 👦👍🏎🏁🚩⛰️🌲🏞🧗Magneride Suspension is Awesome in the Canyon Roads
The Roush is better than a Saleen or Shelby America Super Snake.
In December 2022 I viewed a Video of Steve Saleen saying he Starts with the BASE GT.
Which Means it Doesn't have what my 2022 Roush Mustang with the
3rd Pedal Rev-Match 6 Speed Manual

Limited Slip Intercooled Torsen Rear Differential
My Roush has 16.5 inch Brake Rotors with a Footlong Brembo Brake System
( Steve Saleen said his Rotors are 15 inches.
It is an Up-Tuned Mach1 Handling Pack, that Said I double Checked and was disappointed to find out it is what Shelby America does too. Unless you take a Doner Afterwards
750 HP in the Roush vs 760 HP in the Shelby... You won't notice that difference. 670 ft/lbs of torque in the Roush vs 625 ft/lbs in the Shelby you will notice... Even if only slightly... You WILL notice. The GT500 does sound better though
ROUSH all the way
The real question is how would it stack up against my Mach 1?
It would destroy it !! I have an 18 Jackhammer..710 hp 6 speed..BUTT..you have the perfect car to build..Put a stage 2 Roush Supercharger on it for 10 Grand
@@claywinestm seriously? It would really outperform my Mach 1? I thought my car was quick.
Not sure if it was mentioned already but that Jack Roush Edition makes 775hp rather than 750. I love them. Five star Ford Dallas had one I looked at no less than 10 times. So bad ass.
Love wm all can't beat Mustangs! Ordering a '24 Mustang GT w/track pack /6spd manual. 💯
Exterior of the car looks awesome.. interior is kind of meh. Seats kind of look like a cheap seat cover tossed onto some basic seats? lol.
Jack has a NHRA background. It wasn't until 1988 when he got into NASCAR. ? for IMSA class w/ the Motorcraft Mustang w/ Scott Pruett. Carroll was a road course driver / builder. So do you want to fast in a straight line or an oval or road course ?
Speaking of your car, did you ever get any clean runs at the track? You are doing a good job reviewing vehicles but I sure would like to see you racing again.
The Roush is nice but it’s well documented how trash that supercharger is. It has horrible cooling leading to overheating and timing being pulled. Every test the GT500 destroys it. Upgrade to an Odin, Whipple, or Edelbrock and then the Roush is more comparable.
Gt500 is the GOAT! And this dude does a fake snap back in seat when he pushes gas a little…. 🤦🏼♂️ salesmen..
I BOUGHT THE 2022 SHELBY COBRA GT500, I think its the better choice overall, for the $$
I'm patiently waiting for roush to do a supercharger for the 2024 mustang. There's a Ford dealership less than an hour away from me that's roush certified and I'd love to order a new GT and have the dealership install a supercharger for me. Best bang for your buck if you ask me plus it's all warrantied.
Never been a Ford enthusiast, but I do admire the Mustang. My choice will be the Shelby if I had the choice.
750 hp is just on the crank, people need to start advertising BHP. it should be 640 hp on the wheels.
Roush is cool but nothing will hold its value like a Shelby. Unless the Roush is significantly cheaper than a Shelby then it would worth getting it.
Unless roush redesigned their superchargers to be more efficient then they’re not going to be better than a gt500. Roush superchargers are literally the worst on the market.
Turbo or supercharge….. hmmmm coyote already has top end speed so makes sense to supercharge …. Can’t make up my mind but the ess is pretty cheap
Non functional vents?...why. that's like slapping a srt emblem on a rt
🤦🏻♂Vents in hood are functional. Same for Mustang GT
That’s a beautiful Mustang and it sounds awesome!!! With all that torque it would be a fun daily driver. It really looks great in that Red metallic paint and nice rims.
I ordered a Dark Horse also on the 6th. I plan to put long tube headers & a Whipple super-charger on it and preserve my Porsche Turbo S and make my Dark Horse & F-150 my daily vehicles. Thank you for showing us this fantastic Roush Mustang 5.0!!!!!
Putting a Whipple on a Dark Horse. Nice. When are you supposed to receive the Dark Horse?
@@tyarnold4088 my son owns a Ford dealership; that was the only way that I was able to secure the order without paying a ADM price. I ordered it on 6 April and he said not to expect it prior to after November. So realistically in January or February.
@@gordydexter2615 nice. It will be worth the wait. Dark Horse with a Whipple is going to be a special car.
Sorry, but it definitely is jot better than the current one. The GT500 rocked it pretty easily in head to head

He may get me but both are promised 10's by brenspeed.
Badass ride all around!! 305s would be nice!

No Recaro, no buy. Those red seats suck even more than stock GTs seats do. Sad...
The mustang will never be any good until tested in Nuremburg ring and hits 8 minutes or under mark like a gtr
nice reveiw shelby is a crank flat engine a whole different beasr with different internals
The gt500 comes with a dct. And that's the big difference
Nice car but the Roush blower for 18- current Mustangs is the worst boost option for a Gen 3 coyote.
That blower is horrible with heat soak issues and a weak tune. It's a 5.0 with stock internals. The 500 is the way to go, or get a base gt then boost it.
Is the 750hp achieved on 91 octane?
its nice but i would still take the gt500 over this any day
Not sure if I missed it but why not go over te pricing??
Save for the interior, this is thoroughly ugly.
The only question
Can I get a manual transmission
No, that car is not better than a Shelby Gt500
Racer X is going over to the Dark side. LOL
I would say no. Unless you like the roush name plastered all over the car a hundred times...🤮GT500 all the way.
One can buy a Roush without the bling, as I too, am not into excessive badging.
The GT500 is really different in many ways.
