Sure can tell that this was right aftermovies became "Talkies" !! Stilted audio, and poor acting

Yeah this was definitely an early talkie. The first feature length part-talkie (it had some silent dialouge with intertitles) was The Jazz Singer, released by Warner Bros. only four years earlier in 1927. The first feature length film to have sound throughout the entire movie, and be a full-talkie, Lights of New York, was released a year later in 1928 also by Warner Bros. So really this film was released only three years after the first true talkie movie was made. The Montana Kid was definitely an earlie talkie.
