Wowzer, what a release of emotions seeing Mama K!!! Thank you for taking us with you on this extraordinary adventure. I have so much to say but am left speechless (for now) by the tidal wave of that moment. Well done you!
I've summitted Katahdin three times back in the 1970's and 1980's and each time I went to Acadia National Park after spending a week up in Baxster. There is a lot to see and enjoy in Acadia and there are private campgrounds if you can get into one of the Park's campgrounds. If you don't feel like camping there are other options. In Southwest Harbor there is a place where you can stay in a yurt! Lots of nice trails in Acadia and some very unique views thst can't be seen anywhere else on the east coast. What ever you decide, I've enjoyed hiking with you on your adventure!
I don't feel like you are rambling, just processing the end to this epic adventure!. I know in some ways you are ready for it to end, but in others, like not seeing and hanging with your friends daily, you are not. I am also glad you guys are staying an extra night to celebrate together.
I always enjoy your streams of consciousness it makes for more insight into the hiker mindset. How could not be emotional? The end is a new beginning too/
