My sister has open shelving in her kitchen. Every time I reach for a glass for water, there is dust in the glass. She is a wonderful homemaker. There will always be dust settled on items kept on open shelving no matter how well you try to keep your home clean.

I love the idea that you are mot spending a boat load on the kitchen. Your granite counters are so pretty. Personally, I wouldn't remove cabinets. I'd use the shelving I have or add them to other places. My thinking is that as we age, we aren't going to be dusting & decorating as much. Girls grow up and will soon have their own homes to tend. And like you, we have a cat(s). Hair winds up in the craziest places. I'm always wiping counter tops - literally 6+ times a day - and vacuuming twice a day. Sigh.. It's Neverending.. I love Violet's gardens. Tell her to plant some marigold seeds around the outer perimeters, and it will keep garden pests away. ❤❤❤❤

Removing brick from a house results in losing a lot of the charm and character, I live in Louisiana and our suburban houses are mostly made of brick, it is so beautiful that if my husband ever lost his religion and painted or removed it, I would probably move out and that is saying a lot since I am 99% against divorce
I love the brick backsplash!!! I have white subway tile...and I'd trade her! Also, for a test run for open shelving...might take the cabinet doors off! I'm mixed on the open idea.. Contentment is certainly a trained emotion... and gardening is a great therapy with tasty rewards!! ❤

It’s not a late start. I’m in Southern California. I just planted my beds. You can make a upc pipe hoop cover on your beds to provide filtered shade for the hot summer if you live inland. I did that when we lived in the valley .

Your home, as it is, is so beautiful! I’m learning to be content as the Lord would have us be with what I have to work with. I love making my home cozy and I’m redoing my country home alittle at a time. It doesn’t have to be top of the line to make it beautiful and make it your own. We have 3 acres and I have chickens and even though I have enough land to grow a large garden my husband made us raised beds to grow our garden. They are actually easier to tend to and to keep watered. We grow all we want to eat in those beds. My husband used an old iron bed to make our garden bed and it’s so cute. I think you are very wise to not put so much money into your kitchen counter tops when the ones you have are beautiful ❤️🙏🏻
I always feel it's better to have the challenge to add decor or to make changes in your home based upon being thrifty and economical with your spending and incorporating your desire to have a beautiful home. I think a lot of young women out there today just feel they have to have everything top of the line right out of the big box or custom-made stores putting them into vast amounts of debt and spending money that really isn't that necessary. I have been collecting antiques for about 50 years and always enjoyed getting well used and well-loved things in my home. Continue on your path and I'm sure it will look lovely when it's done!❤❤😢

I can totally relate Sarah! I want to do new cabinets and counter tops!! I almost fell over when we got an estimate!! I definately have to rethink this !!! We have lived here 31 years and built our home. We put in pine cabinets that my cats 2 cats , jumped up on while we were working. They scratched them pine is soft wood. Oh well I will pray about this, I too feel like I want everything almost perfect 😳😳🤷♀️🤷♀️
Sarah, we were thing some open shelves in our kitchen and it was suggested to us take the doors off of the cabinet style the shelves as close to what we think we want and see how we feel about it for awhile, it really help us make a good decision. We are all not perfect, I have always had issues with trying to be perfect as I have gotten older I know that yes we should be happy and thankful for what we have and the family and friends we have. I have found with the more I want the less happy I become. I sure wish we started out in life with the wisdom we grow up to have. I love your kitchen, I think it is perfect. We all see things differently. Love all the plants I too love to have plants around. I love using my hands and digging in the soil.

Sarah, that’s what I’m doing. I’m upgrading the backsplash, the hardware on the cabinets, the faucet ,lights and going to just ignore the granite. By the time you put everything on your counters, you won’t even really notice it . I also have English cottage things. I was even thinking about doing butcher Block like you were. And then I’ve watched a lot of shows and really looked into it, and it tends to even with protection get water from the faucet and sink and stuff, and can end up rotting or turning dark.
Your home is lovely and I too struggle to be content and be grateful for what I have. The older I get, it seems that I think about it more instead of going for immediate gratification
We also live in northern California and just put our garden in. It's doing great! We got chickens a few years back and had built a " country look" coop for them. The issue we came across was that especially here in California where it is warm, the warm wood attracted a ton of mites and even with using "chicken herbs" the mites took a huge toll on our little flock. We then bought an Omelet Eglu coop and not only was it safer for our chickens, but more secure against predators. It wasn't as "country looking" but the absolute best and just knowing our chickens were safe and healthy was worth it. These coops are VERY popular in England and can be disassembled easily. They are a breeze to clean and more sanitary. Just thought you may want to look into these before having a wooden one made....oh....and also rats chewed through the wood as there is a huge rat problem here in northern California. They ate the feed and stole the eggs.😳 The Omelet website is the best avenue for purchasing and their customer service is excellent.💕

Love your cat..cats are a blessing in a family..something extra to love..they entertain us..and they know when we are sad. I had carried an invisible backpack full of my worries and anxieties but I prayed and put the backpack in the closet and gave all my worries to God...I feel much lighter and happier. I am not a plant person, so I can't help there and I prefer silver color to brass so again no help ! Prayers for your decisions and let your days be filled with peace and love. ❤

Sarah, I enjoy your videos. You have such wonderful decorating ideas and I like how you do it with vintage and thrifted finds. I like your raised bed garden. I'm not sure about the chickens, though. Please research what is involved with keeping backyard chickens in a very warm climate on a small lot. Some things to consider are waste (chickens poop a lot), predators, and bug infestation, and not sure how Rocky would react to chickens. I have raised chickens over the years and believe me it isn't always as romantic as it sounds. I do love your channel.
It can definitely be hard not to play the comparison game or want the next, new, or better thing, whatever it may be. I've been wanting a new house basically since we moved here 5 years ago, but we missed the sweet spot to move and now we cannot afford anything reasonable in this economy. My husband told me I have to be okay with living in this house until we die, but I honestly haven't gotten myself to that point and don't know if I will.
Sarah, your voice seems very sad & tired in this video. Social media has a tendency to remind us of what we don't have and maybe feel we "need". But its such a blessing to be contented with what we have. Praying you find will continue to find your joy in the Lord and not "stuff". Don't be disappointed....I settled for a laminate countertop 20 yrs ago when we moved into our home, and I am glad I didn't insist on the best of everything. It's served us very well. My husband is retiring this fall, and we'll be making plans for our future and leave this big house behind. Don't store up too much here on earth right? Matthew 6:19-21 BTW We are not allowed to have chickens within our city limits here in MI.
We’ve had chickens before at this house, and have had no issues. I don’t think I can have a Rooster. I usually do my voiceovers in the morning when it’s quiet, and everyone is sleeping. I probably was tired because it was so early.😂❤️
Sarah, good for you and your prayers. It is going to be a blessing. Use wisdom and listen carefully. I once had open shelves and they looked good as long as I kept after them. People tend to put things on a shelf that was not intended to, plus it is a lot of cleaning!! Some times you have to wash something from the shelf just to use it. Just me, it could be a problem for me.

Whatever decisions you make I know your kitchen will be beautiful. Continue to pray & let God lead & direct your decisions & you know you'll make the right ones. I think to some extent out at done point and time in our lives we've wanted bigger or better things, we're only human and none of us perfect. But Gods word says he'll give us the desires of our heart..i think as long as those desires aren't for the wrong reasons, but the right reasons then they will come forth and it will be perfect. If you're having these thoughts then maybe its Gods way of letting you know you don't need write as much as you want and you'll still be happy! I love you little garden, it will definitely bring you joy! So will the chicks😊 When my son, that's almost 25, was young(about 11 or 12) we had 9 large coops! We had incubators and bitty boxes. My son raised and sold chickens at the livestock auction. Of course we had some pet chickens that ran the yard too. They brought us all joy! This isn’t something I struggle with because I appreciate everything God has blessed me with, your house is stunning compared to mine but I appreciate my house every single day. There will always be someone else with newer, better and bigger.
Amen! Sarah seems to be always on the lookout for the next best thing, thrifted or otherwise that will bring her contentment. There is a lot to be said for being satisfied with what we have. Bridge faucets just mean you have to drill more holes into your countertop. If the current faucet works, it should be kept and be thankful that water comes out of it.

Unpolished would go better with the lovely look of your place. Polished goes more with contemporary/modern. 😊that's my idea.
Sarah I love your home and your video's. I believe you will love the updated faucets and drawer pulls. And you are so correct I believe we all need to simplify our lives. I'm doing it in the garden by dividing plants and moving them around instead of paying the high costs that they currently are.

Sarah, that’s what I’m doing. I’m upgrading the backsplash, the hardware on the cabinets, the faucet ,lights and going to just ignore the granite.
By the time you put everything on your counters, you won’t even really notice it . I also have English cottage things.
I was even thinking about doing butcher Block like you were. And then I’ve watched a lot of shows and really looked into it, and it tends to even with protection get water from the faucet and sink and stuff, and can end up rotting or turning dark.
That’s what turned me off to the butcher block, too.❤️
Your home is lovely and I too struggle to be content and be grateful for what I have. The older I get, it seems that I think about it more instead of going for immediate gratification
We also live in northern California and just put our garden in. It's doing great! We got chickens a few years back and had built a " country look" coop for them. The issue we came across was that especially here in California where it is warm, the warm wood attracted a ton of mites and even with using "chicken herbs" the mites took a huge toll on our little flock. We then bought an Omelet Eglu coop and not only was it safer for our chickens, but more secure against predators. It wasn't as "country looking" but the absolute best and just knowing our chickens were safe and healthy was worth it. These coops are VERY popular in England and can be disassembled easily. They are a breeze to clean and more sanitary. Just thought you may want to look into these before having a wooden one made....oh....and also rats chewed through the wood as there is a huge rat problem here in northern California. They ate the feed and stole the eggs.😳 The Omelet website is the best avenue for purchasing and their customer service is excellent.💕

I have antique brass taps (fawcets!!) and bee hive door knobs which I love. Also reclaimed old scaffold board open shelves. Love your cat..cats are a blessing in a family..something extra to love..they entertain us..and they know when we are sad. I had carried an invisible backpack full of my worries and anxieties but I prayed and put the backpack in the closet and gave all my worries to God...I feel much lighter and happier. I am not a plant person, so I can't help there and I prefer silver color to brass so again no help ! Prayers for your decisions and let your days be filled with peace and love. ❤

Sarah, I enjoy your videos. You have such wonderful decorating ideas and I like how you do it with vintage and thrifted finds. I like your raised bed garden. I'm not sure about the chickens, though. Please research what is involved with keeping backyard chickens in a very warm climate on a small lot. Some things to consider are waste (chickens poop a lot), predators, and bug infestation, and not sure how Rocky would react to chickens. I have raised chickens over the years and believe me it isn't always as romantic as it sounds. I do love your channel.
I would be very careful about keeping them safe and well taken care of. Huge animal lover.🥰

I've been wanting a new house basically since we moved here 5 years ago, but we missed the sweet spot to move and now we cannot afford anything reasonable in this economy. My husband told me I have to be okay with living in this house until we die, but I honestly haven't gotten myself to that point and don't know if I will.
Sarah, your voice seems very sad & tired in this video. Social media has a tendency to remind us of what we don't have and maybe feel we "need". But its such a blessing to be contented with what we have. Praying you find will continue to find your joy in the Lord and not "stuff". Don't be disappointed....I settled for a laminate countertop 20 yrs ago when we moved into our home, and I am glad I didn't insist on the best of everything. It's served us very well. My husband is retiring this fall, and we'll be making plans for our future and leave this big house behind. Don't store up too much here on earth right? Matthew 6:19-21 BTW We are not allowed to have chickens within our city limits here in MI.

We’ve had chickens before at this house, and have had no issues. I don’t think I can have a Rooster. I usually do my voiceovers in the morning when it’s quiet, and everyone is sleeping. I probably was tired because it was so early.😂❤️

Sarah, good for you and your prayers. It is going to be a blessing. Use wisdom and listen carefully. I once had open shelves and they looked good as long as I kept after them. People tend to put things on a shelf that was not intended to, plus it is a lot of cleaning!! Some times you have to wash something from the shelf just to use it. Just me, it could be a problem for me.

Whatever decisions you make I know your kitchen will be beautiful. Continue to pray & let God lead & direct your decisions & you know you'll make the right ones. I think to some extent out at done point and time in our lives we've wanted bigger or better things, we're only human and none of us perfect. But Gods word says he'll give us the desires of our heart..i think as long as those desires aren't for the wrong reasons, but the right reasons then they will come forth and it will be perfect. If you're having these thoughts then maybe its Gods way of letting you know you don't need write as much as you want and you'll still be happy! I love you little garden, it will definitely bring you joy! So will the chicks😊 When my son, that's almost 25, was young(about 11 or 12) we had 9 large coops! We had incubators and bitty boxes. My son raised and sold chickens at the livestock auction. Of course we had some pet chickens that ran the yard too. They brought us all joy! Your home is beautiful and i know it will continue to be.. and also a place of love and contentment!😊 Keep Seeing The Lord🙏

Sarah, being content and thankful is biblical and sometimes you come across like you struggle with this concept. I listen to your commentary very closely. This isn’t something I struggle with because I appreciate everything God has blessed me with, your house is stunning compared to mine but I appreciate my house every single day. There will always be someone else with newer, better and bigger.
Amen! Sarah seems to be always on the lookout for the next best thing, thrifted or otherwise that will bring her contentment.
There is a lot to be said for being satisfied with what we have.
Bridge faucets just mean you have to drill more holes into your countertop.
If the current faucet works, it should be kept and be thankful that water comes out of it.
