- Episode 202. This is a bold, heavily sherried scotch. It may be a bit divisive but it is rich, strong and worth considering. I wish it was a bit more affordable, but I certainly have been enjoying it. Have you tried this or any of their new line? #whiskyfabric#whiskytube#whiskyneighbour
I recently finished a 1995 vintage Glenrothes. Very tasty. I started my job in 1995 and just retired after 25yr. I saved the bottle for ten years, just for my retirement. 😃
That’s awesome! Congrats man! 🙌🥃👌
Great story and connection to a vintage bottle. Congrats on your retirement!!
Been considering this one for an all sherry matured whisky. I have the 18 yr which has a great nose as well. Cheers.
The 18 is certainly more refined, but I enjoyed this one all the way through. Bold, and certainly flavorful!
This was my 2019 Christmas gift from my parents, what a wonderful sherry bomb!
What an awesome gift. So much flavour in this one. Cheers!
You've really made me want to get this! I've never had it, but it sounds the real business. Cheers Jon and have a great week.
Thanks. I think you would enjoy this. Big, brash, no apologies. Take care!
Great review. I just opened this bottle as we speak and your notes are hitting all the marks. Slainte, Neighbor!
Wild! I happen to be enjoying this as well tonight. I hope you enjoy, cheers!
Great review my friend I love the sweetness of the Sherry finish.
Thanks. This is a good one I think. Cheers!
Been wanting to grab one of their scotches just don’t know where to start. It gets great reviews and I’ve been digging sherry finishes lately too. So... maybe this one I’ll see. Cheers 🥃
Perhaps not the most refined Scotch, but lots of fresh flavours here. I think you would enjoy this one.
I'm not usually a great fan of heavy sherry, but anything I haven't tasted yet is worth a go... I have been staying away from Glenrothes for something like six years, now, and I guess it's because I had a dram of it following a Tomatin 15, which I liked a lot. In comparison, to my relatively inexperienced palate at the time, the Glenrothes just tasted like wine to me. This was before my Glenfarclas 15 AHA! moment...
Shame on You Foodquig
I think you would enjoy Foodquig. It is bold, fresh, and evolves with time. A little rough, but really good.
Whisky Neighbour and lots of 18 year old in it!
PhatTrumpet2 was praising Arran's "The Bodega" in this comment section and it sounded so good, I ordered a bottle... I'm totally on PhatTrumpet2's side: oh my! This is a good one! And for a really, really good price! (at least where I live) If you love heavy sherry, I really think you should give that one a go... I'm glad I did.
@@tobi8676 I will be looking out for that Arran "The Bodega," and I did acquire a bottle of Glewnrothes Whisky Maker's Cut already...
Great review!
I bought a bottle today and like you said: I was looking for a heavily sherry-influenced scotch - and I couldn't be more happy with what I've got.
I would love to compare it to an Aberlour A'Bunadh. I remember loving the nose of A'Bunadh, but although it is bottled in cask strength, I always had the impression that it lacks of mouthfeel and that waters kills it much too fast for its strength. But I guess I have to revisit it.
This Glenrothes on the other hand, just totally keeps what he promised to the nose. Yes, it's bold! And yes, it has some rougher edges and it gets a bit bitter in the finish, but I actually like that. Maybe it becomes a new favorite of mine...
Thanks for sharing your experience too. You might just have picked tonights dram for me!
I'm going to order it. Thank you for the review
I hope you enjoy the bold, full sherry notes too!
Great Review someday I hope to get around to this one.
I believe it brings a lot of flavour to the table. Cheers!
I loved this one and will be buying another shortly. If you're looking for rich sherry at fantastic prices, look out for the Glenallachie 15 and the Arran 18, both lovely and punching above their weight in the price/value ratio. Somehow in some markets (not mine in Winnipeg of course where our prices are awful and we rarely see new products on the shelves) those two are priced incredibly - real head scratchers!
Interesting. Both of those are above $100 around here, but I'll keep an eye out. Are they only ex-sherry or a portion of ex-sherry?
I'd definitely consider them both to be somewhat special and not just "everyday" $70ish bottles, keep in mind that I always have to compare prices to Manitoba prices where both of these would likely swing a $200+ price tag each. To the best of my knowledge they're both fully matured in first-fill sherry and both very rich!
@@tjross1313 sound wonderful!
Sold!
Regarding heavily sherried whiskies to try, I'm having a pretty hard time reaching past the Arran Sherry Cask "The Bodega." (I even prefer it to A'Bunadh right now.) Definitely pick one up if you ever see it up in your neck of the woods.
Thanks. That is high praise!
Since I just bought and really enjoy the Glenrothes Whisky Maker's Cut and since I remember enjoying A'Bunadh very much, I actually bought a bottle of A'Bunadh and "the Bodega". So now I was able to do a blind tasting with all 3 of them (I added a little bit of water to A'Bunadh and Bodega to balance the difference in percentage a bit)... The A'Bunadh was easy to recognize. I guess you never forget your loved ones... with the other 2: I had no clue which one's which. But since I _clearly_ liked one of them much better than the other, I thought it has to be the Glenrothes, because I had it 2 days ago and enjoyed it so much. But I was wrong: It was the Bodega! Wow! What a nice whisky this is! Directly compared to it, the Glenrothes Whisky Maker's Cut didn't had a chance.... Thank you so much for recommending it here in the comment section. It truly is amazing.
Great review, Jon! This is at a few of the TotalWines in the Bay Area, so I’ll look for it. I need a new Glenrothes and this sounds tasty from your notes 😊 Cheers buddy🥃
Glad you could drop in. I do like it, full sherry for me here.
This sounds good Jon. There are a few different glenrothes out there. How to pick one over the others is the question. Only tasted one and liked quite well. For some reason always choose other drams over these. Hope you can do a series on these.??? 🥂
Just got back from Montana. How close were we to you?
I would lo e to do a series. Sadly I do not have any other open Glenrothes!
@@whiskeymusic9684 close, but still 6 hours south!
@@WhiskyNeighbour so if you can...what city/ town are you in??
@@whiskeymusic9684 St. Albert. Right against Edmonton, AB.
I did a little research on the age of this expression and found it to be a 16 year old whisky.
Amazing. I would have said 8 years.
Nice. Where have all the good SCotches gone? Ontario is so dry, there has been very few new bottles of bourbon and Scotch since March 2020 . . . sad.
Your right, I have been trying cocktails lately, fun.
I don know. This is a little brash, but really full of flavour!
@@richardarmitage5976 cocktails can be interesting. I am not adept at making them yet, but I do enjoy them. What is a favorite?
@@WhiskyNeighbour I'm no Tom Cruise either ( old enough to remember the movie cocktail? ) I ve been enjoying venician spritz in the hot weather this year, always liked irish coffee on a Saturday morning. Whisky selection has dropped off a bit lately in Canmore.
Hey Jon, would you consider this a “sherry bomb”? It seems like one! Right now I’m enjoying a speyside as well, the singleton of dufftown 12 year old. It may be a little simple for some, but it’s very friendly, fruity and creamy. It has some Pedro ximenez casks, and I like what they are bringing to the table. Cheers!
Hello Fancesco. Yes, I would say this is a Sherry bomb! Cool you are enjoying Singleton of Duffton. They are often very affordable around here. Cheers!
