Titusville born and raised and still proud to call it home. Home to Drake Well. I’d put Titusville above Seneca a billion times, even if the hospital is a little further away, and the drug issues my little town has scares some people away. True, born in Wellsboro. Tourism is its thing pretty much, and county seat. I had a job, but was burned out and needed to move for my wife’s family. It’s the idealic New England community nestled in the hills of PA. Has the hospital and homes, but not sure internet is up to Brigg’s standards. My friends are mostly in the outskirts, and they have frequent complaints about that. It grew some with the Natual Gas boom of ‘08 but that’s backed off with no easy pipelines to get the well’s resources out of the area.

Our small Pennsylvania town has a population of 300 . We have a school, a bank , convenience store , butcher shop , Dollar General , several churches and a sporting goods store . Our crime rate is non-existent for the last 5 years . A couple of big city thugs robbed the bank 6 years ago and were caught 30 minutes later . These thugs were from 75 miles away . It is a wonderful place to live and we want it to stay this way . Most of us do not want other influences that cause issues to come here.

I may be biased being a native Pennsylvanian of the same rural area my entire 45 years, but I am quite happy here in Northeast Pennsylvania about 25 minutes north of Allentown. I live in Moore Township in Northampton County. There are a few small towns near me, closest ones are 6 miles in one direction and 8 miles in another. We have a level 1 trauma center just 40 minutes away and 3 level 2 trauma hospitals under 30 minutes away. About 30 minutes to a "major" shopping area with malls etc. Extremely low crime, plenty of small and mid sized farmers around me, 10 minutes from mountain skiing and always less than 15 minutes from a pond, lake or creek for fishing. Houses range from 120K to 1.2 million. I have two nice country clubs to golf, if that's your thing near me- one just 4 miles away, the other about 8. I like my little corner of the world. We have just under 2 acres, not far off from Appalachian Trail and the historic Walking Purchase trail area. Woke up this morning to 5 deer walking across the corn field behind my house and th only noises you can hear are the sounds of birds singing while looking for their breakfast and my chickens cooing while they ate their morning food. We have high speed fiber optic internet here. My husband works from home when he isn't traveling for work. He works in IT and has never had internet issues. Lots of hard-working, sensible people to be found in these parts. This video showed just 6 of what I will say are 100 great rural places in Pennsylvania. If you have never been, try the Poconos for a vacation one time- especially if you like nature and outdoor vacations. God Bless 🥰

Low crime, two new hospitals in the past year, theater, concerts, lakes for fishing and boating, skiing, golf, hunting, many bike trails, shopping, many historic sites. 25 minutes from Whitehall where you'll find every store you can think of. Some of the most beautiful farmland in the country, one and a half hours to downtown Philadelphia and 2 hours to NYC. What more xan you ask for?

Not a bad list, (I went to high school in Hometown.) For anyone looking to move to PA as an affordable option, make sure you check the school taxes - they can be several times more than the property taxes. I didn't know what a sump pump was until twelve years ago when I moved to the mountains of PA. I lived in a nice dry house for 50 years, no mold, no water, no must, no bugs, no nothing. Before you consider a move to Pennsylvania, you should know that PA has two separate real estate taxes based upon your homes assessment. It will cost you thousands of dollars each year. And it is not universal cost, it all depends upon your area. So check before you take the plunge. Many elderly have had their homes sold at auction because they couldn't pay these awful taxes.

I'm was born and raised in Eastern PA, but traveled to and lived in other areas as well. Yes, there are county and school district taxes, if you live in a city, there are city property taxes. But, they are so low compared to our surrounding states. Jersey? NY? Seniors also get rebates, mymom gets at least half her property taxes back. Taxes change and I have seen sheriff sales for back taxes, but I've seen a lot of seniors stay in their homes too. I'd say it's dependent on individual circumstances (who is deeded the prop, kids?) and area.

@@thefern8847 it is kind of a trade off, isn’t it?. The extraction business is messy and creates all kinds of environmental hazards. I hear a lot of stories about the boom and bust cycles around Williston, North Dakota.
. In Nebraska we are used to seeing trainloads of oil and coal go through. The railroads have always had a big presence here. In eastern Nebraska I am used to seeing oil and natural gas pipelines. However, up in north central Nebraska they are not necessarily fond of pipelines, nuclear waste dumps, EHV power lines, or large wind farms. They like to protect the natural beauty of the Sandhills. The same is true of wooded Pennsylvania, I would imagine.

Fun video. We moved into a town called Rural Valley in Armstrong County in 2020. So I looked up the things you focused on. We have Xfinity. 95% below national crime rate. There's not a ton to do, but there's a lake about 10 to 20 minutes away depending whether you're on or off road. Keystone Lake. It's huge. 2 hospitals within 20 to 30 minutes and near a college town. And about an hour to Pittsburgh. I love PA. Lived in small towns here for most of my life.

Im on the other side of Pennsylvania in NE, but I have been to Pittsburgh many times when my girls were younger and traveled for sports- especially when my youngest (she is 19 now) did USAG (gymnastics). It is very unique. My absolute favorite part is driving through an looking at the bridges- yellow bridges, blue bridges, green bridges, all pure American, Pennsylvania steel. Old enough to see the rivets and bolts clearly as you drive by or over them. Really gives Pittsburgh a unique feel. And outside Pittsburgh in the rural areas is just as beautiful as the rural area over on this side where I live. God Bless 🥰

Haven’t heard about any crimes there so far, I’ve liked a lot of the restaurants, an old railroad hiking trail, stocked creek, and St. Lukes Hospital is only about 10 minutes to the east.

9:28 - Fun fact about Service Electric Cable TV:
They were the very first cable television company in America, based out of Wilkes-Barre, which Jim mentions a few seconds later, pronouncing it correctly no less, along with Scranton, which is where I live now. I'd be the first to admit my hometown (Wilkes-Barre, not Hometown lol) has its issues, but there are still plenty of good things about it, especially if you are with someone from there to show you around. HBO, Planter's Peanuts and several other world-famous companies and brands got their start in Wilkes-Barre. Thank you Briggs!

Honesdale is indeed a great place, I've been trying to buy a house there for awhile..
Unfortunately, the price of homes has exploded there in the last year, because everybody in Urban/Suburban areas has been moving to areas as far from major cities as possible, but still close enough to attend the occasional work meeting. And that makes Wayne County an ideal location. I personally saw a house on the market sell in a week for 400 grand... That I looked at 7 years earlier for $99k.😭, Admittedly with some renovations done.

We have Xfinity coverage, very affordable homes, crime rate is super low (we score an 80 on Neighborhood Scout), there's a hospital about 20-30 minutes drive away.
