- „We find what we´re looking for on our way“. The filmmaker Werner Penzel accompanied the group Embryo at the end of the 70s on their eight-month-long trip from Munich to the province of Calcutta, India. Back then, Embryo was one of the most innovative German rock bands. On their country adventure trip, the group encounters foreign cultures and their music. The film contains expressive pictures, cultural exchange, but also the strain of the trip as well as the social and political situations of the featured countries.

I don't know if anybody wrote it here in the comments, anyway: this is supposed to be a companion film to the "Embryo's Reise" album, which has never been released in its original form on cd (the cd and streaming versions lack a couple of tracks). I have the original double vinyl version, which has circa 20 pages of booklet where they tell the story of this year-long tour, and they also talk about this movie. It's a real treasure to have it uploaded here for everyone to watch! Thank you for adding this important part of the history of such a phenomenal band! :)
i was 17 years old young turkish hippi likeguy in Ankara Turkey , and the band came to stop by then and made a concert american culture center, i will never forget, it changed my life into acid freak now hahaha

diese Trommler,diese Melodie ist Inspiration pur,ein sehr schönes Zeitdokument in Bild und Ton !!!
I was 19, my first trip to India, it was 1980, I went straight to Pune, Maharstrah, Rajneesh Ashram, but then later I spend a 15 years in India, a lot in Pune but also Rajesthan, Ladakh, Manali, Nepal, ...Ladakh and Nepal is the best ...... that place is simply out of the mind .... my heart is dancing by getting back into the old memories ....
Wunderbare Erinnerungen! Ich war zur gleichen Zeit mit 2 Freunden ebenfalls mit einem alten Mercedes Bus in Indien aber leider sind wir der Band nicht begegnet! Aber mit den Musikern in Kabul hatten wir auch Kontakt und musiziert! Der Film ist ein schönes Zeitzeugnis! Die Reise damals hat mein Leben verändert!

Ich frage mich gerade, wie haben wir den Hippie Trail nur geschafft. Besonders wir damals jungen Frauen?Ich schau mir gerade das Video an und bin dazwischen entsetzt, begeistert, auf jeden Fall irgendwie fasziniert.
Ich glaube wir hatten eine an der Waffel oder überirdisches Gottvertrauen. Mein zweites Kind kam 1983 in Almora, UP zur Welt. Nur mein Mann und mein kleiner Sohn waren bei der Geburt dabei.

Hab ihn als DVD, ein muss für jeden Krautrock-Freak, der noch von Mainz nach Wiesbaden fährt, für einen Film über Embryo zu sehen (Caligari- Filmtheater). Rief noch vorher an und bat um Ticketreservierung. Als ich ankam und meine Reservierung ansprach, wurde ich hingewiesen, dass noch niemand da sei 😂🤣😅im Nachhinein waren vielleicht 8 Leute da, aber, geiles Filmtheater, prima Filmchen, danach noch in die Litfasssäule ( geniale Kneipe), ja, Embryo war schon ein interessantes Kollektiv.
Ich erinnere mich noch daran,wie Ich in meinem Zimmer saß und dieser Film im Fernseher lief! Wahnsinn
I love everything about this film..All is true, the images are a dream of creation, the music so inspiring, the group adapting with such ingeniosity to native plaers and the amazing joy shared..and I wonder how the hurted lady managed...

Wir hatten sogar schon einen Bus ins Auge gefasst ... Aber dann kam die Iranische "Revolution" ... :(
Recentemente um dos idealizadores e participantes desse fabuloso trabalho faleceu. Falo do incrível e multitalentoso artista Hieronymous Parth. Por meio dele, pude ver esse trabalho. Parabéns pelo belíssimo registro aos envolvidos.

Schöner Dokumentarfilm ... der an die Dokumentation "Crossing the Bridge" von Fatih Akin und Alexander Hacke von den Einstürzenden Neubauten aus dem Jahr 2005 erinnert. In "Crossing the Bridge" traucht Hacke in die Musikszene in Istanbul ein.

I have a CD with this movie, Christian (Auf Auf!) sold me some hears ago, in Montebelluna Italy , he told me
"It cost 10 euros, but make how many copies you want!!"
By the way, this version and the version of the CD are different in some parts, does anyone know something about these topic??!!

I also bought in 2005 something a DVD from Christian, I met the Embryo for the first time on a tour to Italy, they were playing in a small bar in Montebelluna.
Christian told me: "This DVD costs 10euros, but you can make all the copies you want!"
Btw, yes that version of the movie is quite different in some parts, and there were some (not all) eng sub.

is there a version with english subtitles? can you enable cc?
I don't think there is, but it doesn't matter that much, because you can get the story from watching! It is mostly chronological, though some clips inserted were not, like the scene in the caves was in Afghanistan, but is shown after the birth which was in India.
We added subtitles but they need to be approved by the uploader first.

It's a 'baul' song, in Bengali. Singer is Paban Das baul (who became quite prominent internationally later). Name of the song : 'Paro janome amari mato Radha hoyo tumi priya'
