Cardiff is unrecognisable now, I would have preferred to be around when these photos were taken, I love the victoriana era, and Cardiff was such a beautiful place.
Now living in Australia for the past 50 odd years and seeing many many towns and cities in my travels it is so refreshing to see that Cardiff has hardly changed at all except for transportation of course. It still has it's beautiful castle and stone built houses and well kept gardens and Civic Centre. I was there in Cardiff just over 5 years ago with my Aussie mates that loved it as an historic City!
Cardiff has now sold itself out to international finance and the city's identity has been lost as the majority of locals have left, (including me).Not the working class city it was 10 years ago, honestly I rarely visit now, even though I live only 20 miles away in Bridgend, if I need to do shopping I usually go to Swansea. It is what it is. I still have fond memories of the three decades I lived there. Thanks for the footage.
@demonhalo67 I'm still in Cardiff though dawg! Yeah I think it started going down hill about 20 years ago. They really like ripping up bits of the city unfortunately and some places are borderline no go zones, especially at night.
I visited Cardiff for the first time a few weeks ago. What a disappointingly sketchy, edgy place I found it to be. I had to check my plane ticket to make sure I was actually in Wales, if you know what I mean.
Clever how you have had the past fading away as the present comes to the fore. They didn’t have much in the past but what they did have was a sense of community which is sadly lacking today. Great video.
Ah..those tramcars...used them a lot as a kid..Victoria Park into town and then hop on another to Albany Road.Roath Park or out to the depot at ther Rumney end of |Newport Road near the old power station...They even had a cut off thro Moira Terrace ner the Cardiff Royal nfirmary from City Road/Newport Road junction used on special parade days in Queen Street...ran from the hospital right thro past the prison up to the Monument....
Lower Cathedral road has been uglified by modern very ugly building. A few years ago one traditional building was demolished overnight for some ugly modern edifice to appear , some one must have had a backhander; i was then working at the Beverly hotel, in Cathedral rd
Can you please make an video a video of Bargoed?. A former mining town in the South Wales valleys. 17 miles from Cardiff, 8 miles north of Caerphilly. There's a Christmas event there on the 9th of December and it would be absolutely wonderful if you could capture this as I'm not able to do it as I'm in Poole, Dorset until January.
Celtic Druid unfortunately I am unable to get to Bargoed on that date as I will be away from home. Sorry As a consolation I have subscribed to your channel.
Bring back the old days… So much for progress..! Electric trams.. we are only now getting electric trains at a massive expense to the tax payers.. and only on some lines…. If it’s not broke… don’t fix it… 😒

True a lot of lovely old buildings in towns and cities have been replaced by modern eyesores
Everything was so much nicer back then, especially outside the Castle.
@@CRDFRider Yes true times have changed and not for the better I think
Lovely video. Enjoyed it all, except for the dire 'music' row in the background
Sorry about that Steve, will have to choose some lighter music in future.
@@taffystravelvideos But the video is lovely. Enjoyed it immensely
all of the original images would have been a sight of great transformation at one point too...
Interesting comment
