@@Prof.SeverusSnape 1. Manchus only shave/cut their hair ONLY when their husband/wife (the expression "tied in hair" is related to a Manchu marriage custom) and/or parents die 2. Confucian philosophy teaches the body as a parents' gift, hence "harming" it is considered unfilial...hence why prohibitions include haircuts/trims/shaving, dyeing, nailcuts, piercings, & surgical procedures (both invasive & non-invasive), also includes self-mutilation (except eunuchs)...the only exceptions being decapitation, quartering, & the hundred cuts, which were reserved for high treason
This queen appears almost in every historical drama that i have watched. They all portray her as the evil one but this movie has an interesting view. Still wonder what happened to real one tho. It was mentioned that king killed anyine who mentioned about her afterwards and she was buried like a low class consort. They even destroyed her records and portrait. Her crime must have been very huge taboo or smt very weird that king refuses to think about...
Yes, I am also curious about the details of the real incidents. However that is also the reason why we can make more imagination about the story. But considering that the real empress had indeed cut her hair, I can imagine that it was the biggest crime which made her unforgivable to him. Cutting hair in their culture at that time meant as mourning. So it signifies that to her he is already dead. I can imagine that his alpha male ego just can't tolerate being abandoned by a "mere" woman whose life and death is up by him. And added to it, he is a living person, an emperor, is considered dead by his own wife... in front of others it is more sound like she is cursing him to die soon. So even if he still wants to protect her, it is unlikely possible. There are enough people in court and the harem who would use that to completely crush not only Ruyi but also her clan, to kill of any single possibility of their clan to make a come back by sending another woman to the palace later on in the future.
From what I know, the QianLong Emperor let his ego get the better of him. He treated Empress XiaoXian and XiaoYi well because they abided by what he said, unlike Empress Nara, who voiced her view.
Am i the only one who thinks the actual Nara Empress was a real badass - considering what she did was such a taboo. She must have put up with too much shit that couldn’t handle it any longer. She was brave, so brave, who could dare to do such a thing, kinda a “feminist” move to have such action, she was way ahead of our time for being able to come to that decision.
No you r not,I do think alike. Regardless if the little details in this drama may be untrue, but the haircut incident was atleast correct. And there is no way that an empress would have done something absolutely unforgiven like that if the emperor hadn't finally done something intolerable to her. No matter how much hearthache a woman had, it takes a huge courage to do such a thing in that era, when a crime towards an emperor not only could cost your head but also the head of your whole family. Even if she and her family were not sentenced to death, their reputation and future would be very likely to be forever finished. So, she was really a badass. She basically said to him: "Do whateever you want, I'm done." How humiliating was that for an emperor to be dumped by a woman, who didn't even have any backer.
that dream is over But I still have myself, patient and comforting, will not give up hope. Even if today there are tears that will drive me inside, that love is gone
whether the empress ulanara was like here ruyi or from yanxi palace cutting her hair really did mean she no longer wanted to be empress and thought of him as someone dead
Even in Indian culture, when a woman cuts and unties her hair then it means the complete end of the marital relationship cause untied hair in Hinduism symbolise Spinster and cutting hair strand means purifying your mind from previous urges and vibes. And if she shaves all her hair, then it means she is accepting widowhood. If she wears saffron clothes, then it means that she has accepted nunhood.

He is full of bs , she was a very smart woman because she didn’t waste her words, she use them at the right time and for the right reasons
Finally she spoke freely and showed what a contradictory bigot of monster the so called emperor was. I hope in some other world that guard and queen be together
Her head piece is just soo beautiful.
Nothing can top this piece.
Is, is that a pun?
Arrasou Ruyi!!
Ela apanhou duas vezes
Her stare at the king is what a real queen is made off.
The princess wanted to hurt Ruyi, but had not anticipated that her father would also suffer.
THAT is a passionate woman! Bravo, Ruyi!
The story of a man who has everything and wantonly destroys the one thing he loves most: and a woman of great spirit and character who tries to save his ass & finds her way to freedom.

Maravilhosa!! 👏👏💋
I am so glad she broke up with him
She had that "We are Done" Face, after she cut her hair
It's not a "broke up". It's more like a suicide of all her future to escape.
@@alanchen8272 What does that mean?
@Sribas Chowdhury Oh, ok That makes total sense.
She is like Whew! I'm free.
If only divorce was so easy now, I'd have cut my hair 16 years ago 😂

1. Manchus only shave/cut their hair ONLY when their husband/wife (the expression "tied in hair" is related to a Manchu marriage custom) and/or parents die
He never takes the blame for anything. What a man baby
Quelle magnificence ! Quelle intensité de jeu. Personnages très beaux. Acteurs extraordinaires. Série sublime.
Cena perfeita...olhar dela ...expressão dela ...nossa 🥺!!!!
different times, hard times, especially for women. Glad that it's (mostly) in the past.
Or the king was a sick
No you r not,I do think alike.
Regardless if the little details in this drama may be untrue, but the haircut incident was atleast correct.
And there is no way that an empress would have done something absolutely unforgiven like that if the emperor hadn't finally done something intolerable to her.
No matter how much hearthache a woman had, it takes a huge courage to do such a thing in that era, when a crime towards an emperor not only could cost your head but also the head of your whole family.
Even if she and her family were not sentenced to death, their reputation and future would be very likely to be forever finished.
So, she was really a badass.
She basically said to him:
"Do whateever you want, I'm done."
How humiliating was that for an emperor to be dumped by a woman, who didn't even have any backer.
when she cut her hair makes me cry, she should have done that long ago.😭😭😭
He has so many he has so many wives but it's a good drama do and that woman she is pretty
I hate his whole, "She doesn't want to deal with my bull shit anymore so she must be insane," nonsense that he's trying to push.

that is why ruyi didn't want to be empress in the first place, or not even want to be in the harem.

Emperor is just so full of himself he thought it's impossible for her to not want him anymore as a husband
I really admire Ruyi. The emperor never deserved her....
Ruyi should know that harem is not for love. Is a war for status and position. Too sad she's still believe that emperor had a true love.
Ruyi felt in love with the guy, who save her a lot time she did a shoes for him, maybe in other life they can be happy.
@@doriscastillo4438 no she did not , they had a different type of relationship but not a love one her only love was the awful dude on the video!
💯
that dream is over But I still have myself, patient and comforting, will not give up hope. Even if today there are tears that will drive me inside, that love is gone
whether the empress ulanara was like here ruyi or from yanxi palace cutting her hair really did mean she no longer wanted to be empress and thought of him as someone dead
The 2 women are adding salt when they went into the room after queen leaves
🤣
10:00 that shot looks like an Egyptian scrne on the Nile, Ruyi even looks like Nefertari
😁😁😁
No she doesn't
I really think this episode is really important to understand this drama.
This scene was so powerful. Legit had tears in my eyes 😢
My Goodness, I need to watch this whole series.
Que bien libertad y no humillación
Even in Indian culture, when a woman cuts and unties her hair then it means the complete end of the marital relationship cause untied hair in Hinduism symbolise Spinster and cutting hair strand means purifying your mind from previous urges and vibes.
And if she shaves all her hair, then it means she is accepting widowhood. If she wears saffron clothes, then it means that she has accepted nunhood.
