He translates by meaning, not word for word. If it makes you better, the song doesn't literally sing those words. But in terms of meaning, he got the song's message spot on haha
@@cerebrummaximus3762I enjoy these videos a lot, but... not really, and don't think that was the intention, either. He basically summarized the setting and the beginning of the plot.
@@cerebrummaximus3762I think there are videos where he did what you described, or came close: for instance, his version of "Oh mio babbino caro" essentially gives the message of the original despite not being a word for word translation. In Habanera, the original song describes how Carmen feels about love, while his version, to me, seems more focused on explaining to the audiece what's going on. Agree to disagree though, I'm not trying to pick a fight. All his versions are great and do a fantastic job at making opera more accessible.
The combination of funny and accurate translation alongside the IMPECCABLE singing is just phenomenal, so glad the unfathomable algorithm put this in front of my eyeballs ❤❤❤
Just found your channel- love it. I look forward to hearing much, much more from you 😊
lmao I can't see the song in the same light now haha (also, it would be awesome if you did an "Opera for Dummies" video for a piece from Giulio Cesare.)
But that is what this aria was about. It's not a literal word for word translation, so if it makes you feel better that is not what was literally sang. But the meaning conveyed is one-to-one.
I had an inkling what this aria was about from what I knew of the plot and context in popular culture, but having a fun translation was just *chef’s kiss*
I saw this on Facebook and had to immediately find your other content. You have a new sub. I love listening to different opera arias and I love when people find out that this very famous song is just a slut anthem. I wonder if you'll do the doll song from the tales of Hoffman. Its not nearly as humorous as this, but it is popular.

You think that's out of place, try the Muppets version. It's either going to be adequately kosher somehow or weirdly ironic depending on your mindset, but it's still a great adaptation.
Not only are you able to play the piano and sing in every range, you can also write songs that had me laugh out loud!! Hats off to you, can wait to here more xxx
The language nerd in me must firmly object to the use of the word lisp to describe how c and z are pronounced in Spain. Would you call pronouncing thing differently than sink as lisping? Otherwise, this was extremely funny.
I used to be in an orchestra (just 40-60 teenagers making a lot of noise really) and we also played the Habanera, and we were doing a concert together with an opera singer. Then one time during the break one of my friends said 'Did you know theres also a muppet version??' So ofcourse we watched the muppet version, and we were having such a hard time after that keeping a straight face playing that song. Every time the opera singer started singing like very profesionally and serious and we were trying so hard not to laugh😂 If we had found this video during that time, things would not have ended well🤣🤣🤣
if this guy translated a lot of classic operas, he might just have a solid musical comedy career in his future. excellent work!!!
