The expressions lack a bit of classical dances and look more derived from the modern films and dances.The moves are good but there is something that lacks and its definitely NOT THE CHAKKARS OR HASTAKS
I do agree that the abhinay that is performed while performing classical dance is always a bit more exaggerated and loud than what is shown while performing a play (natya). In classical dances like bharatnatyam, the expressions and hastamudras are louder and made more visible as compared to Katthak. However some dance gurus in Katthak feel that it's not always necessary to make exaggerated expressions and make gatbhav very dance like. Their view point is that there's a very thin line of difference between acting in a play and doing gatbhav in katthak, and that the abhinay in gatbhav is bound by the cycles of taal and Laya. So basically even if you portray abhinay very naturally resembling it to real life and present it in a Layadaar way, that will do. I feel that it's rather easy to express loudly but a bit difficult to keep the abhinay as natural, subtle and non-exaggerated as possible but still follow the beat. So it's just the perspective nothing else. My guru and his guru follow the former perspective
