I didn't even know these existed! I looked them up on Amazon but there's a ton of them, do you have one in particular which supports your channel or recommend? By the way, I'm drooling over the Labradar and Forester Co-Ax press still under the tree thanks to you! LOL Seriously though, I want to install this charging system before I start using it to avoid any damage to the connection.. Many thanks! Happy New Year!
From what I've seen so far, they all mostly do the same thing. You can find a selection here amzn.to/3PS7CTX but really you just have to decide if you want the cheaper charging only ones or the more expensive charging & data versions. The only thing I've found is that the data versions have more magnets on them so they're just a little more work to clean off from ferrous dirt particles and such that build up and eventually prevent a good connection.
@@FClassJohn I bought a couple of different sets which I believe will work well. One of the sets included a swivel feature which will allow the cord to hang vertically, to me it makes a lot of sense.
Keep in mind that if you want to use a magnetic cable for your phone in your car for Android Auto or Apple Car Play you will need one that transfers data as well as charge. Some magnetic cables are charge only.
Hey there- I bought a bunch of these from another brand and have been loving them more or less. Mine have multiple pins for data and charging- the tips have these really cool concentric circles for connectors. The thing is- I have found that a couple of my devices may have been damaged by using these cables. The scenario was that the units had a little weather sealing flap over the port and that when the plug was in, the flap was strong enough to either slightly disconnect or cause some kind of partial or intermittent connection with the unit. Both units seemed to burn out their charge ports within a few weeks. So now the unit appears to have a connection to the cable, but it just overheats and does not charge. These cables are rated for USB 3.1 Gen2 and quick charging. There is likely a little loss over the magnetic connections, but my electronics do appear to charge quickly.
I had to cut away some of the cell phone case that was restricting the input of a mag plug, in order to make a solid and tight connection of the mag plug to the phone's charging/input-output jack.
A normal charger that comes with an iPhone is only 1 amp and iPads come with a 2.1 amp block. You’ll have to check whatever set you’re buying but the ones I linked to in my description are 2.4a so in theory you shouldn’t notice any chance in charge speed for those types of devices. Most electronics regulate the charge which is why you can have a 2.4amp charger on a device that’s used to only 1amp for instance. But it’s always best to check the device to make sure it regulates the charging.
Thanks!
Thanks, John.
Tks John from Québec.. Received mine today, works great.
awesome!
This is a awesome idea! Thanks for sharing
glad it helps.

@@FClassJohn Thank you John!

Thank you, I have noticed the same problem with the micro usb connections, I will be getting myself one of these kits now 👍👍👍
Awesome, I hope they help you as much as they helped me.
@F-Class John.... You gots all the neat gizmos!!! Keep up with the videos, I sure do enjoy them!!👍👍✌🏻
thanks for the tip...picked up both this set and the external trigger which works exceptionally well.

Thank you. That’s good information. As I said in the video I was going to try it and sure enough it didn't work so I have updated the description.
@@FClassJohn I learned the hard way myself. The NetDot Gen12 data/charging cables have worked well for me.
John how do you know which magnetic connector fit the LabRadar?
Anything that has a mini-usb will fit.
Awesome I did not know these existed

Both links in the description of the cables you suggest are no longer active. Can you please update the links if possible?
Thank you. I've updated the link but here it is to make it easy for you amzn.to/3AcbwyY
Great idea... any idea on the “rate of charge” vs. a traditional interface?

What kind of stand is that for your Lab Radar?
