Thank you so much! I must confess, listening to your amazing music in lockdown was a large part of what encouraged me to have a go myself. I had lots of fun putting this together, so thanks for inspiring me! I know it's been a while, but I'm hoping to record some more bardcore soon, when I can find the time! 😀
🤣 You're quite right, but this is a common trope that goes beyond Bardcore. People have been doing this for arguably several hundred years to make the language in literature, films and another media sound archaic whilst still remaining comprehensible to the audience. Early modern English is about as far back as you can go before it starts becoming difficult for non-specialists (like me!) to understand. It's all about feeling 'old timey', although it's all fake, of course! There are some Bardcore artists out there who do covers in proper old English, Latin etc. though, which is super impressive, but I have enough trouble getting my thees and thous right! 😂
True, but I'm willing to give it a pass since it would be a true pain in the ass to figure out the lyrics, here's a medieval English translation of this sentence: Veire, buÞ Ich'm willende bihofþe gātī̆f intransiciọ̄n ain pasſ sinnes intransiciọ̄n woulede bæ ain veire pain in th' asſ bihofþe figuræ ouÞ th' lyricſ
I've been binging Bardcore music while trying to write a fantasy book, and this is BY FAR some of the best I've heard. Everything about this is just incredible!!
Thank you! There are some great bardcore channels and interpretations out there, but I try to make my covers a little different by doing a bit more tweaking of the originals, adding slightly rewritten vocals, and recording all the parts on real instruments. It's lots of fun but it does take ages! 😃😂
Glad you found and enjoyed it, even if it took a while! I'm working on a couple more. Am super busy at the moment but hope to have them ready early next year.
This song is so underestimated they it made me mad but great job I think that we acculturated people of the internet need more of this, still amazing job if I ever see a dislike here I will personally hunt him
@@Timmakesmusic you definitely are within a similar league to her, being astoundingly talented, was recommended here from her vids!! So happy to find your channel
@@Shouja198 Thanks for your kind words! I didn't realise people were getting recommended my channel from her videos. So glad you've been enjoying my music too!
Thank you! I'm no medievalist, and more familiar with literature from the period you mention, Shakespeare, the 1662 prayerbook, King James bible etc. My aim with the lyrics was to make them sound archaic but comprehensible (a bit like the prayerbook and KJV bible when they were written, I suppose). However, I do have some friends who are experts in this area and I'm sure they'd be horrified if they heard my covers. 😂
It's wonderful. I think lyric-wise instead of 'give me a man after midnight' 'give me a sign after midnight' might be even better, and would fit rest of lyrics. Just a little sugestion.
Thank you! I take the original song lyrics and try to rework them into a style that sounds 'old'. The language is more early modern English (1500-1600s): it's not strictly 'medieval'. I don't have a formal process for doing it. I try to keep the words faithful to the original whilst changing anything that sounds too 'modern' to my ears. You might be able to tell from the way I sing that I've got a background in English church music and I've also dabbled in traditional folk music. You start to get familiar with the archaic language when you sing those kinds of music regularly. I also try to make sure the lyrics still rhyme in the right places and have the right number of syllables to fit the tune. Sometimes though I just change the lyrics because I think a particular old-fashioned turn of phrase will sound amusing. There are some useful sites and blogs out there too that can help me find old alternatives for specific words that have the right sound or number of syllables.
Thank you! It's not on Spotify at the moment. This started as a bit of fun to amuse me and my friends during lockdown and I've been surprised with the wider views my videos have had. I've only been posting to UA-cam so far and hadn't considered putting things out there on other platforms but maybe I'll look into it one day. I'm still very new to all of this!
Not sure why UA-cam wants me to listen to Bardcore just like Metal covers, the quality of the original affects the quality of the cover And the same songs get coverd throughout the genres!?
Sorry UA-cam is pestering you into listening to this. I love the Bardcore genre but I appreciate it's not to everyone's taste. Hope UA-cam recommends you something more to your liking soon. Thanks for the comment though. I noticed the views on my videos and my subscriber count have gone up in the last couple of weeks, so the mighty algorithm must be taking notice of me for some mysterious reason.
I gotta give you props, this was really great! Great work on the arrangement and the lyrics!

I love how the whole Bardcore community agrees that Shakespear English was spoken in medieval times, even though it's not true at all. 😂

Look up a channel called The Miracle Aligner. They sign bardcore songs in actual ol dlanguages.
For example:
ua-cam.com/video/JcKqhDFhNHI/v-deo.html
They also didn't do covers of 20th century disco songs, so..
I love how your emotional intelligence requires that you forego sincerity for sarcasm

You have no idea how much I appreciate this cover of ABBA's most famous song! This is such a delectable piece of bardcore history!
Humanity must prioritize inventing a time machine so we can test out these songs on medieval peasants. I NEED to see their reaction.
I'm sure they'd be down with it!
Wonderful! I love your choice of instruments as well as your singing - your voice is beautiful and really suits this style.
That's so kind of you to say. I fins it's a fun style to sing, so glad to hear people are enjoying listening as much as I enjoy singing it!
Such a lot of effort goes into these delights, thank you👍
Wow! I'm at a loss for words! This was phenomenal!
Thank you! So glad you enjoed it!
Love it
Thank you for your kind words! Glad you enjoyed it!
This is fabulous! 💖 I now want to host a Medieval themed party where I can play this for everyone
Make sure you invite me (or maybe don't - I'm terrible at parties!).
The core of the bard gives a more truthful feeling to this song.
Imagine the last unicorn song in this genre!!!! Oh my gosh these are all so beautiful 😍
Thank you!
When I started hearing the lyrics, LOL. Awesome.
commenting to stay on bardcore tube
pissed youtube didnt share this sooner one of the best bardcores i have seen in a long time

You and Hildegard von Blingin' are my favorite bardcore artists-love your work!
Thank you so much!
Brilliant in so many ways
This is nice. I can imagine it being played in a room filled with tapestries and fine art ❤
Thank you! Sadly I don't have a room of tapestries and fine art to play in, but maybe one day...
Excellente! This man hath talente! 🤗
This is giving repressed gay monk, longingly gazing from his cell window

I have a couple more songs in the works but neither are ABBA ones, sadly, but I might do more ABBA in future.

kind of reminds me of the mandalorian ost

На скорости 0,75 звучит особенно хорошо.
Возможно, я пою слишком быстро. Я всегда спешу закончить!
Using y instead of þ in Gothic script is a rookie mistake.
You can blame the adoption of the moveable-type printing press for that. Thorns (þ) haven't been a thing in printed English text since the 1450s.

Give me a female voice! This song is meant to be sung by women, so even if your arrangement is good it gives me the creeps.
