In this free drum lesson, I want to teach you the main drum beat from the song "Where The Streets Have No Name" by U2 featuring Larry Mullen Jr. on drums.
What I've got for you today are the two main variations of drum beats that Larry platys on the recording, plus a type of drum fill he uses throughout the song. As a bonus in this lesson, I've also included the drum beat variation that Larry plays live, as well as a simplified version of the drum beat for more beginner players.
As always, feel free to email me rob@drumstheword.com if you have any questions and I hope you have fun with this classic!

Really cool how much more interesting it sounds just by throwing in that 3e accent. It really comes alive.

He doesn’t use a tom live. He uses a Peter Erskine snare with the wires removed! Then moves to his main snare which is currently Ludwig black beauty!

You're welcome, Vinayak!
Thank you for this lesson and the PDF!
I will definitely have a look at the website for the other U2 songs :)
In the original song, I can not/barely/rarely hear the accents with the left hand.
Do you believe he plays it like that during the whole song?
In the original video, partway through, he switches to playing the accents on the snare.
Again, they are only the accents on the 2 and the 4.
What do you think?
I'm curious to your opinion!
It's been a while since I did this lesson but you are probably right in thinking that he might change it up a little during the song. Thanks for your kind words and interest in my lessons!

I have something.... its in my pocket
The rim shots wouldn’t happen if you had an acoustic set along with many other benefits
Electronic kits are A LOT easier to record video drum lessons with. Accidental rim shots are also nothing to worry about.
Explica muy bien algo que no es correcto. Aunque esté tocando lo que está en partitura está muy mal transcrito. Horrible!
