Unfortunately I don't. It would sound like a normal starting sequence. Nothing abnormal. On a fresh battery i would crank for 5 second intervals until the battery would die. Just replace the gear, save yourself the headaches!
I have a 2008 450 XCF that seems to lose spark from time to time. Battery good, all connections good, grounds good, have replaced the Pulse coil, CDI, and the stator (100 watt trail Tech unit for Dual sport light kit) kill button. It drives me crazy! Valve still within specs after 200+ hours (I'm 3rd owner). I have factory service manual and follow all the checks. Love it when it runs, hate it when it don't! This bike is a money pit so far!
I have a 2007 and it stops starting. I put a new battery etc and even if I bridge it it's still the same, I'm almost sure that's it. How much is the piece?
Hey I have the same problem like it will take about 1 minute of turning over getting boosted from a car but once warm and battery good it will start no problem do you think it exactly what you said in the video or something else
What exactly was the problem with the limiter ? i have the same bike and the engine wont turn over when cold but once bump started and warmed up will start with the electric just fine
Theres a pair of small clutch pads on both sides of the fine tooth gear that must rub off with time. It is a wear and tear issue. I think the ultimate problem refering to my bike was that the intake cam lobe timing was off 3 teeth from the factory yet the engine still ran. i had to hold the starter for 5 to 10 sec to get it to start at times. All that extra time on the starter was causing more wear.
@@moreorangeairplane thanks for the info i think i have other issues going on...might be worn valve springs it seem to not be able to over come the compression...but once started and warm it then with start with the button.
Sure sounds like my bike. I had the exact same issues and you cant even test that gear to tell if its failed. Ive heard that on that same model the auto decompression lobe on the exhaust valve cam gets worn out. That could be playing a part in the motor not being able to over come the compression on a cold start. If you run a compression test it shouldnt be able to build hi psi due to auto decompression working correctly. But if its worn out and failed then the motor builds too much compression and it wont be able to turn over.
@@moreorangeairplane Hey Nick the racing season here in PA is going to start in march so i'm getting everything prepped now i just bought a new 450 so the 2008 450 didn't get the attention it needed but one of my personal rules is not to let stuff laying around that doesn't work right so i'm going to take your advice and order the limiter gear. My issues sound just like what you described...engine won't turn over cold but once bump started and warn will start just fine using the starter button. I've been chasing this issue and replaced about everything...starter, battery, battery cables, starter button, starter relay, and never thought of it being a mechanical issue Just crazy how expensive that thing is and can't be rebuilt with a small clutch pack. Just one question on your bike when you hit the button did it try to turn over but just couldn't spin the engine over but the relay would click and act the the battery was dead or too weak to start it even though it was fully charged ? Thanks again for your input and i'll let you know how it turns out.
Still not sure what was wrong with the torque limiter you just said it was the problem
