"If it ain't wrong..." 😄. Hey Mitchel, I though you might want to know that your videos are one of the few ones that I watch without skipping any second (and sometimes rewatch)! Keep on the great work, as many have said, your contribution is invaluable!
"It's aesthetically pleasing for your partner too. You can now freely enjoy your hobby without bothering your partner!" This should've been released on Valentine's day! EDIT: Also thank you for the amazing content! I've pushed myself to start thanks to you! Currently building a high tech nursery to start doing experiments with seedlings. Will eventually start building the actual hydro system when I have a good sense of the first phase!
Great idea!!! My hubby even likes this particular system. He is Italian and usually says just concrete it and paint it green, but he liked the look and function of this system. Thanks for all the great ideas and inspo
As hydroponics become more popular I see your channel becoming something of a bible for home systems. I know it is for me. Your videos are informative, entertaining and just plain enjoyable. Thank you and keep up the great work.
Suggestions for fixing 3D printing issues you mentioned: To improve adhesion with print bed, I'd recommend wiping it with some IPA (isopropyl alcohol, not beer). If that's not enough, add brim. And maybe a draft shield, since you don't seem to have enclosure for your printers. If you have issues with print strength, add extra walls instead of increasing infill.
i really hope you protected your designs so some huge corporation dont mass produce this, your methods and thoughts behind what you do and how you execute them simply boggles the mind and i thank you for that. love the content 👍
Thanks guys, I don’t like the patent system. I think it stifles innovation. And the purpose of the channel is to liberate the growing of food. Beyond any individual personal prosperity. Modelled on the liberation of penicillin which should be the worlds example.
@@Hoocho I think there's still a valid point of protecting your creations though. Open source is not just for software, but licences are there to prevent any "takeover" by greedy corporations.
I can’t wait to see how this goes down the line. I’ve always been so paranoid about taking water, route and putting them into a more soil like media by the way you’re treating that makes me think that they’re a lot more Hardy then I thought
Another great video. I lost a lot of plants last summer because I’m old and didn’t have the energy in the heat to water all the plants I enthusiastically purchased at the garden center in the spring. I’m hoping to adopt/adapt a lot of your ideas. Probably minus the printer and the cement mixer, although my grandkids would think that was pretty cool. Thank you!
I see a beautiful garden with plenty of substinense. when I create my new garden I will be buying many of your 3D Prints, keep up the great work. Love the videos.
A quick tip you might want to try, I've had significant success printing as if I have a .6mm nozzle with my standard .4mm nozzle. I swapped back from an actual .6mm nozzle and got much less stringing using the same gcode.
Excellent presentation. Nice way to integrate aesthetics with the ease of an hydroponic system. I think I will it a try with some of my wife's home plants. Thanks!
Seen many of your videos but I did enjoy this one as it home :)... I'm planning an NFT for this summer but it has to be "fancy"... I think more content like this would be great for all city folks !
if you want to avoid the plant feet....dig a trench for your gutter and then the pots can sit on the ground, and that helps disguise the gutter making the system even more pretty!
Wondering if some 25mm cord rope could be an alternative wick material...Pretty sure it could work, Not dismissing the 3d print wick spike...but for people without access to a 3d printer it might offer a cheaper alternative method.
Yes. I would like to see an update on the success of this system. Basically, it's auto-watering typical grow pots. Great idea, and I want to install the same at my garden. I just want to see if the results are good, or if there are any hazards later on??
This seems like a good idea to finally try this method. Our patio is full of terracotta pots that we fill with flowers but can never seen to keep up with watering.
I have recently retired from job, living in India. I want to start my basics in farming. Thumps up for your clear, excellent tutorials, detailed enough even for a biginner. We get 4 to 5 months rain in my place. If I keep the systems in open space, how to manage the excess rain water in the growing media?
Thanks for sharing your brilliant innovations. Im going to try weld my wicking wedges out of Stainless angle iron (using scraps) or maybe aluminum. Because i love to weld and everything I print on my old 3d printer seems to have a short lifespan:) Wedge Cross section Shaped like a tent stake “T” or weld two angle irons together to make an “x” Subscribed!
Fan of the channel Maybe a better way to print spikes is to split the body into 2 at the lip, then glue together after the print. Will allow a better print footprint, and easier to change length of spike.
First! (lol) Just have to say, I've recently discovered hydroponics and have watched like 15 of your videos already. I'm planning on 3D printing the modular tower as my first attempt at hydroponics. Have you got a video that talks about which pumps you use and why? Great work, keep it up 👍👍
With pump it depends on the size of project you are talking about. If it is large you can use a garden fountain pump or if it's small you can use an aquarium pump. Alternatively you can buy a pump that you can change the flow rate
Love what you're teaching! I tried aquaponics a while back and loved it. I am wondering if hydroponics is as expensive as it seems it would be. Is it cheaper or more expensive than aquaponics? Keep on doin what your doin and I'll keep watching. Have a good one!
Amazing set of videos I've been watching. Your ideas are top notch and I love that you offer other ideas that are not costly. I unfortunately have to count every penny during these times the past three years. I can't eat store bought greens because of what is sprayed on them. I live in Canada zone 4a so the growing season is short and swift. I ponder if a terra cotta pot could be placed over a bucket for indoor use as we are many feet buried in snow until the end of May . I've been trying the soil in a pot but it is slow going and I've not had a decent salad in many years. What do you think? I have the coir pellet pots for seed starting. I do hope you see this comment... Take care, and thank you for your videos and wonderful ideas.. from Laura in Canada
Great video mate and top work updating it part way through. Do you think those float valves would work in the 10/20L bunnings buckets? Or would they be too big to deal properly?
hey mate, great video, if only i had a 3D printer, got plenty of space to try this. I have done my first dutch bucket system thanks to your inspiration so thanks. do you have a link for where you get your special T and NitroCal from?
Funny. I designed and 3d printed something similar to do the same thing. You can use old shirts, jeans, rope, even paper towels will last a growing season.
Hi Hoocho, Great video! In it you referenced the rain barrel/catcher build video. I can't seem to locate it on your page. Any chance you could link it? I'd love to give it a watch and a thumbs up too!
Could you do this with just coarse perlite instead of the coco mix? Coco is very expensive where I am at and I can't spend $750 on grow media right now. Could the wicks be larger or more in number to catch up in terms of nutrient flow to the plant roots?
whoa, look at that dragonfruit... I grew some last summer from seeds from a supermarket fruit, and snails only left me with one survivor, which now is like 15cm ;) I doubt it will really get large here in germany though. Currently I use only mineralic substrate in pots also with a wick system, but no auto-watering (because those chilis in pots I also want to overwinter indoors, and I don't want any soil in the house), mixed with a bit perlite. What is the advantage of coco substrate, and can you tell more about the "amending" it?
Hey German! This is extremely "on-brand", but if you haven't already, check out "slug beer traps". Slugs love nasty, terrible, cheap beer, and not just german slugs 😛
@@joesephrodrigues that's old news ;) What this does, is attract the slugs from your neighbours garden to also come to yours... and I'm not exactly sure, that beer from the country it was invented in, and has laws what may go into it, is terrible and nasty :D
Would this work with circulating nutrients in the gutter pipe ? I have a Hydro system with mixed systems combined using a Pump in the reservoir, I would like to add raised grow beds making the gravity feed a bit difficult. Any info would be appreciated. PS. love your videos and systems !!
Is there a potential of liquid and media escaping through the hole in the pot? If so, it would mean pushing the wick through the pot and having a flange on the wick, this would push against the base of tub and stop any leaking. Hope that makes sense
I noticed that all of my plants with potting soil on my system are wicking and growing very effectively. Why again would you rather use coco/perlite, when you can use simple, cheep potting soil?
Does anyone know taht these rain gutters are like the ones sold in Europe for air? They are mad out of pvc square but only can find for air not for rain water.
