I've been to Townsville twice. Once in 1987 and the second time two years ago. My how it had changed, for the better. Great place. It has everything, without the expensive of the big cities. I am looking forward to retiring there.

I love the opening pic of the tall white building. Uno problemo ! That building is in Mosman St Charters Towers. Right next door to the Charters Towers Visitor Information Centre. DUR...

Are you serious calling this the "second capital of Queensland"? It's not even the second or third largest city in Queensland. It's expensive, dry country town in the middle of nowhere.

What are the bigger Queensland cities? By population Townsville is the largest. In the middle of nowwhere? I don't think so. Expensive? I have lived in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. There is no comparison. Townsville is much, much cheaper.

@@fidomusic If you go by councils, Townsville comes in at number 7 after Brisbane, Gold Coast, Moreton Bay, Logan, Sunshine Coast and Ipswich. I based my comment on experiences having lived on Magnetic Island (1973-1976) and living in the Burdekin for a couple of years in 2002-03. As somebody who travelled regularly overseas, and having a wife who enjoys shopping variety (is that a surprise?) Townsville seemed remote. An hours flight to Brisbane Airport and shopping had little in variety. Compared to Brisbane commodities were dearer. Understandable given freight costs. To clarify, when I said we "lived in the Burdekin", in reality worked in the area and flew home to Brisbane on days off. Like any provincial town you don't have traffic or crowd issues in Townsville. The dry tropics doesn't seem appealing but that's just my opinion. I think Toowoomba is the nicest provincial town in Qld.

@@coover65Toowoomba over Townsville. Hmmmmm I dont think so champ. lol Also the places you mention, form the greater Brisbane region, Townsville is the biggest Australian city north of Brisbane.

@@yeahtheboys9296 Townville might be crime capital of Queensland. I'm just basing my observations on having lived there. Opinions, not facts. Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast are hardly "Greater Brisbane". You could say Logan, Redlands and Moreton are though. Ever since I first visited Townville in 1973 it's struggled to have the feel of anything other than a country town. Don't think of that as a bad thing though. You don't have traffic issues and it doesn't take an hour to visit friends or family, or have developers bulldoze acres of bushland to build satellite suburbs about as big as Townsville but without the infrastructure.

Agreed Coover. Nothing much there, to many terrible weather events, dengue, stingers and crocs and it's too dam hot
