In terms of avoiding baby blues, there are specific nutrients worth being mindful of -- iron, vitamins D and B12 and some others that can become depleted early after birth and are associated with depression and energy levels. Also, some people have a difficult time processing folic acid, which is the synthetic form of folate. A simple test can tell you if you fall into that group. If so, it's important to minimize processed foods and to take a vitamin with "folate" rather than "folic acid."
